Neato XV-21 Pet & Allergy Automatic Vacuum Cleaner for $379 Shipped from Amazon.com

Logged in Amazon and it showed a price drop, though it has been at this price previously with some interest. The Neato is arguably the best robot vacuum along with the LG Roboking. Unlike the Roomba (aka ping pong), they plot a cleaning pattern. They do however sometimes suffer from build quality issues, but parts are readily available and there is a massive Whirlpool thread for support. Apparently a laptop charger will solve the US to AU power issue.

The Amazon cart price is US$339.97 including delivery and I used XE to convert to AU$

Neato XV-21 Pet and allergy automatic vacuum, charging base, boundary marker
Features: Powerful cleaning system specially designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers
High performance vacuum removes all kinds of dirt and cleans all floors: carpets, rugs, hardwood, laminates, tile, and stone
Schedule automatic cleanings while you're away via simple user interface
Automatically returns to charging base when vacuuming is concluded

  • That is a great deal. One of the best available robots for a bargain price. Thanks

  • +1

I reviewed this some time ago on my blog. Pretty cool bot. It covers all area in my apartment really well (Yes, I was watching it go round and round). It'll also go back automatically to its docking station to recharge if it's running out of battery and then continue vacuuming.

You can also schedule it to clean once every few days or so. Pretty handy :)

  • What do you mean "solve the US to AU power issue"; is the power supply a 110v power supply, or can is it 110v-230v that I can just adapt the plug on?

    • It is capable of running on both - 110v/230v. Some people don't want an extra travel style adapter.

    • +7

It's a 110/230v power supply, just replace the cord from the wall to the power brick with a Aussie one and your set. It uses a cloverleaf aka mickey mouse plug, common on laptop power supplies

      • +1

I got my replacement cord from JayCar for $6 or so if anyone is looking for a place to get one, a few other big retailers had them for $10-$15 like Officeworks.

        • +1

Hi, is it possible for you to post a link of what the adaptor looks like so I can get one for my mum and dad to use with this Neato that I just bought for them? Also, I've found this on eBay, is it the right one as it says 240V: "http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2m-AU-3-Pin-to-Cloverleaf-Plug-240V-Mains-Power-Lead-/370589232096"?
          Thanks very much in advance.

        • +2

Cloverleaf is correct. It's an IEC C5 connection, check wiki for an image.

        • +1

Yep that's the one as mentioned. Here is the one I got from Jay Car
          http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS4120

Assuming you have a powerpoint somewhere in an open space, you can put the base in front of the powerpoint and you only need a short cord.

      • +3

or you can bend the pins with some pliers. You know; Ozbargain style

  • They do however sometimes suffer from build quality issues

These things are always on Woot as refurbished products. That's how many returned units they've got. Large number of them breaking down.

    • If you get a good one they're amazing, but… personally I'd go for a LG VR6170LVM round model. The Whirlpool thread indicates the quality is high along with the clean. Very quiet too. However, you're looking at around $650 locally. The square model is not as reliable apparently.

      • +2

I also read the Whirlpool forums at length and learned that the square one (6270) was not as reliable even though it's the model up. It was hard for me to buy something when I know there is something better with more features and not a lot extra cost. I got the 6170 though based on the reviews.

    • The good thing is, you can return it to Amazon for free, and they pay for postage back to the USA (Which is some $150!) Furthermore Amazon also send you out a new one straight away, so you can wait for the new one to come and then send your broken one back. Even if it's something minor, you can send it back to them for a replacement and you won't be a day without your item or have to pay anything at all.

      • Really? I thought only Buy Happier paid for return postage. It is my understanding you paid your own return with Amazon. This could be a deal breaker.

        • I spoke to them on online chat, they sent me an email with return details and told me to reply with a copy of the postage receipt, then they did the refund on my credit card that I originally purchased it with. He said he would send out the replacement item straight away and I would just need to make sure they have the original item back within 60 days (otherwise they charge your credit card obviously). It was something ridiculous as well with Australia Post airmail, around the $150 mark. I was quite surprised as well.

        • Was yours DOA or something else?

        • Nah it worked, but the battery life was way below par and it didn't seem to be getting the same power as it should have, which meant it was getting stuck on very short rugs. I was still using it, the battery didn't really worry me as it just keeps recharging until it's done but the rug thing was a bit annoying as I couldn't run it when I was out. I used it for a few weeks and then chatted to them about a return to see my options and they were amazingly helpful about it. They listed return reason as faulty battery.

        • I just checked and refund for postage was $163.60! I felt bad, the box was pretty massive and Australia Post are such a rip off as we know.

        • I'm pretty sure they paid you return postage as you found it to be faulty initially even not DOA. I do not think they will pay for postage for example 6 months down the track.

I have been researching robotic vacuum cleaners for weeks. I had decided on either this one or the LG 6170. I was going back and forward for weeks, researching, watching YouTube videos etc and only TODAY, 5 hours ago in fact, bought the LG.

If we had carpet I would have gone the Neato XV-21 for sure. The only reason I got the LG was because it apparently got in closer to the edges and with 100% hard floors throughout the house, the is where the draft pushes a lot of the dust. I can't believe though, after finally making a decision, this is the FIRST thing that appears on my Ozbargain when I sign in. For this price, I may have been tipped to the Neato afterall. I'm kicking myself a little bit. Then again, I am very happy with the LG Roboking after it's first run. I vacuumed tonight, then mopped the floors then set 'Rosie' (the cleaner from the Jetsons, plus it's a dark rose colour!!) off and I could not believe the dust she collected. Un-fricking-believable.

      • +5

I'm not retarded but thank you for your implicit rudeness to my comment.

For what it's worth, I had cleaned my floors before we went out. I was not planning on buying that day but popped into RT Edwards for a price before grocery shopping. They gave me a good one ($635) so I bought there and then, brought it home and set it off.

In any case, I have watched plenty of YouTube clips where they did this very thing anyway; to demonstrate how much they are able to pick up on a clean floor.

      • +2

Yes. People do this as a test. If it picks up what you can't I guess it's doing alright.

  • +1

Can hear mine happily roaming around downstairs now… as mentioned above, just need to replace the power cable.

  • I've been waiting for this everyday since the last deal. Just bought 2, need extra one for a friend, thank you very much op. Myers have it for $799 http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/neato-xv-21-automatic-ro….

  • I have had one for six months and the only complaint is it doesn't the edges. Otherwise it does a really good job. Very happy with it and would buy another one if this stopped working.

  • Perfect timing. Ordered!

    • How much did you end up paying? Comes to about $397 AUD on checkout through Amazon for me.

      • OP used XE converter.

        • So what about OP. I asked T-800…

        • I answered your question.

      • +1

When checking out, you need to ensure you select that the payment is made in USD currency. This should come to $339.97USD.

I paid via the 28 degrees card and avoided any currency conversion fees. Basically you pay based on the USD/AUD spot rate on the day. If you elect to use Amazons AUD conversion, you're slapped with the currency conversion fees.

        Hope this helps.

  • -1

Thanks OP, great work. I just ordered, happy wife = happy life!

  • Cheers OP, been researching a long time on these robot cleaners.
Neato does have a high reported failure rate. I was swaying to the LG Roboking, but $379 vs $650 I will take my chances.

  • Thanks very much OP. Just bought one for my mum and dad who are in their 60s.

  • I got two sunken rooms. how to use this robot?

    • +1

Just carry it in and start it and when is done in that area it will return to where you dropped it off. You don't need to start it at the base station but it will only return to where you start it.

  • I have a question that I hope someone with a lot or experience with these robotic cleaners can answer. If I have quite a large but flat floor area that consists of a series of bedrooms (with open doorways), bathrooms and a large open plan living area (kitchen, dining, family) all connected to an entrance vestibule, with variously carpet and porcelain tile floors, will a robot find its way through this maze and clean everywhere and then return to base in an open broom cupboard under the stairs. Sound like a big ask, no? If it can do all that, will it also walk the Lab? :-) !!

    • Mine likes to be in the middle or it over extendeds itself and runs out of power, so base unit ideally should be in the middle of the area, doorways and rooms are not a problem but cables are, you have to Neato-proof your home to get it working efficiently. Not sure about dog walking though! :)

    • Here's my experiences. Consider multiple rooms which are empty it is likely the Neato would get about 95% coverage because it would miss some edges/corners. The more complicated a room layout it seems to miss bits here and there. For example sometimes not going between our recliners. It will do multiple rooms and surfaces it may need to charge mid clean depending on how big the area is.

I have also read that sometimes if the base station is not clear of corners and other things it may have trouble docking. I have only read about it and haven't tried to set the dock up in a complex area. So YMMV.

Why does noone mention the affiliate link. If you set up an affiliate buddy with another person you trust, you can sometimes save up to 15% by recouping the affiliate earnings.

Basically, find another friend who shops on Amazon frequently and give them your affiliate code. Whenever they buy something, they use your code. In return, you do the same for them. This way you each get 15 per cent back on whatever the other buys. It may not always be perfectly even, but it’s a good way to generate some extra savings without cheating the system.

    • +2

Why did someone downvote me for this. Don't you want to save money, isn't that the essence of ozbargain? If its legal why not, I'm not condoning any illegal activity like torrenting which others do to "save money" and maximise satisfaction.

      • I think because affiliate links were recently banned because they were being abused. People would post bargains which weren't actually good. Conflict of interest. But yes, your logic is sound.

  • Camelcamelcamel says the cheapest its ever been was $249.99. Should I wait for this price?

    • You could be waiting until Black Friday (Nov), so I'd speculate no. It's within 6% of lowest, which is still a good price. It usually sits at a little over $300.

    • -1

You need to take into account shipping. Overall the price difference is only about $15USD.

The effort of constantly checking for the next few months to save a couple of extra dollars is not worth it IMO.

Then again this is OZBARGAIN ;)

  • Also dont forget if price goes lower in next 7 days they will refund difference.

    • Sorry, I don't neg comments very often but that logic is pretty flawed. Look at the Camel pricing and not only is this the best price available NOW but it's probably the second best price ever at $265USD in the cart. That $249.99 price was available for a day or less by the looks.

    • Rubbish neg sionghua

  • I bought the green LG Roboking VR5906LM about a month ago and absolutely love it, best thing I've ever bought
It picks up all the dog hair, daughter's long hair, so much dust from edges all around the house it's amazing

Really easy to empty the dust bin, and clean the brush. Quiet and efficient machine with 5 star reviews on Productreview
I used to vacuum every 1 or 2 days, now the Dyson comes out once every 1-2 weeks no kidding

Was tossing up between LG and Neato, but after reading some really bad reviews on Neato, no thanks !
Bought the LG from HN for $487 on 12m interest free, even better

  • It id showing $311.99 now.

    • Add it to the cart and it automatically applies a discount.

      • not for me, stays $311.99, might be expired
Edit: it comes down when you ask it to estimate shipping and tax

        • Just tried, still shows for me. It's about $46 AUD discount applied, no idea why or where it's coming from though.

  • FWIW, I bought the LG Roboking Square 6270 from GG for $766 a month ago. For my hardwood floors, it is perfect. I haven't used my normal vacuum once since installing it.

The square is very meticulous in making sure it reaches every spot in the room which is great.

Apparently Myer are now selling it for $700,but you need to ask for it as they are not on the shelves.

  • We've got a mixture of floorboards / carpet and a large shaggy rug in the lounge. No robotic doovie will go on the rug as it will get caught in the rug fibres. Is there a way to stop it vac'ing in the lounge area where the rug is or prevent it from trying to get on the rug?

    • You can lay down magnetic "boundary" strips which the vacuum will not cross over.

    • You have to Neato proof your house. Either use the boundary markers (virtual walls) or roll up the rug. People are know to remove rugs or furniture because it's better than vacuuming yourself!

  • How does this thing go with non-shaggy rugs? Will it "climb" up onto the rug and do its business?

    • Yep.

  • OK, I'm convinced - got one.

  • +3

Gotta love that stylish Nintendo 64 look

    • +2

Looks a little Snes to me

  • Very tempting.. just looking around our living room right now, and I"m a bit worried though. In particular, we have reflective kickboards in the kitchen and 4 bar stools with low circular and completely reflective bases.

Can the neato deal with these items, or will it be a nightmare? I'd like to just have it on a schedule to clean when we are not home, so I don't really want to have to remove chairs and cover up kickoards etc.

    • Kickboards should be fine but the stools may be an issue. Can you lift them up onto a bench the days you plan on cleaning? I'd guess it would be fine 90% of the time but could roll the other 10%, but it won't damage it. It kept trying to climb up our Christmas tree base for example.

      • Thanks, good to know that the kickboards should be ok. I was hoping on just putting it on a schedule every day (or every other day) when at work. Don't want to have to keep track of when it is supposed to clean. Can't see any other items that looks like they would cause much issue though, just the standard chrome feets for some furniture, but I think those should be fine.

Hmm, can't decide. Since they all seem to break down very quickly and frequently as well, that already had me on the fence about ordering from US.

  • Been waiting for something like this… Thx o.p.

  • Do these things actually work?

    • Read the Amazon reviews. 4/5 from almost 1000 reviews.

    • If you buy one.

  • I have had one of these for almost two years and love it. It is a bit noisy and may miss a bit of dirt around corners but well worth the investment. The kids love watching Alice (from the Brady bunch) clean the house. Works on carpet and floorboards.

  • +3

I just ordered one. I chatted to amazon support and they said that I can return it for free (they pay the shipping) for the first 30 days after delivery and they will help with any problems (warranty) after the 30 days.

    • Good find, thanks.

    • Thats probably for US customers only id imagine?

      • Nope I returned mine and they paid shipping costs, see earlier comments :)

  • i can't get the price you have, I get 385 USD?

    • Looks like the party is over folks. I'm now getting $385.22 Estimated order total in $US. Seems the discount that was applied is over.

      • oops my bad

    • Maybe was a special price? Was going to order and just missed out too.

  • Hesitated too long. Seems to be $US 311 + 75 shipping now that I came back to buy it. Unless there was a special way to get a discount.

    • same situation. looks like they increased oversea shpping price.

      • +1

Actually there was a 15% discount on the neato. This has now finished.

        Shipping hasn't changed.

  • Must have been only an hour or two ago. I ordered mine three hours ago and this is my cost

    Item(s) Subtotal: $311.99
    Shipping & Handling: $73.23
    Promotion Applied: -$46.80
    ——-
    Total before tax: $338.42
    Sales Tax: $0.00
    ——-
    Total for This Shipment: $338.42

  • +1

Got one, thanks OP : This video convinced me to get Neato rather than Roomba: Neato vs Roomba

    • OH I didn't see that. I bought it anyway but this makes me more certain of the buy :)
What sold me is plugging the computer in and playing real life logo

  • I've got a $89 robot from Godfrey and it's pretty good! It's definitely a buy recommendation at that price. Runs about 50-60 minutes and always has a full catch. Doesn't return to base, but it takes 5 seconds to pick him up and plug him in. Runs on carpet and tiles.

    • Cool story bro.

  • Glad I finally decided to buy one before it finished.

  • Thanks a lot OP. Glad I jumped on this deal as soon as I saw it. I'd been reading up on these in the last couple of weeks, so already knew I wanted one. Can't wait for my Super Famicom to arrive! :P

  • Seems price of this item is now US$365.81.

  • I just received an email that my Neato has been shipped and expected delivery date is 13FEB?? Whoa… that is super quick if that estimate is correct….

    • Mine on valentine's day. Guess I can skimp on the roses :)
Not sure why my wife wanted it, giving that I do the vacuuming. I think I'm about to be fired.

      • I got the same confirmation email too, I doubt that's accurate.

        • +3

Sometimes Amazon choses to ship by Express. I think you can count on it to be accurate. Perhaps it was cheaper to send 100 of those things to Australia that way? Who knows…. Or maybe they switched them all on and told them to go here…

        • Haha… That goes well with your display name.

        • What does that means?

        • You can track your package too. Apparently mine is in NSW already!?!

        • When I got mine last year it only took 5 days to Adelaide, very unexpected.
