Free GHD Air Hair Dryer (Worth $199) with 12mth Subscription of Marie Claire Magazine for $69

1860

The official deal is for a 12 mths subscription of Marie Claire* for $69 which equates to a saving of 32% ($31.80) off the street price of $8.40 per issue. That to me is not a deal as I only buy the occasional issue when they have good free samples with that particular month's issue.

The real cincher here is that the first 300 subscriber get a free GHD Air hair dryer. These are top-of-the-range hair dryers in the current market today and have an RRP of $199 (but can be found on ebay for $127 delivered).

Now I've used one of these dryers before (at a salon when getting my hair done) and they are great at cutting down drying time with the 2100w motor without leaving hair feeling like it's been blitzed tinder dry. The ionic technology also helps to keep hair feeling soft and looking silky smooth, cutting down on the need to use additional styling products. It has 2 heat settings, 2 fan settings and a cool shot function. For more information, check out the official product page.

So effectively you could get a great styling product almost half the cheapest price and 12 mths worth of magazine reading. Good Buy and have already made my order tonight. Be quick since it's meant to be limited to the first 300 subscribers.

Would make a good gift for the gf (valentines day is coming up), sister, mum or yourself if there is no one out there to spoil you.

  • Marie Claire is a monthly publication on Fashion, style, beauty and health, peppered with the occasional feature article covering current womens' issues. They also regularly include sample sized beauty products with their monthly issue from brands such as Jurlique, Nepolean Perdis, L'Occitane and Becca in the past.

  • I just called. No GHD for me even though I was previously told I would. The bloke on the phone blamed ozbargain. Haha. Anyway. Full refund for me.

He said they were still trying to get other gifts for everyone else.

  • The partial and full refunds seem a bit inconsistent.

  • I just rang and cancelled.

The email they sent me said order was placed on 6th, but I still didn't get hairdryer. When I rang up last week, I was told there would be a replacement gift.

Rang up today, told I will not get a replacement gift, and will be charged for the first issue which I still HAVE NOT received either.

What an absolutely USELESS company. Definitely should have handled it better.

I will be taking this up with whoever I can…I was actually going to subscribe to some other magazines but not any more.

Just wondering if anyone has spoken to Fair Trading or ACCC ?

Otherwise I will definitely be taking action if I get the same bullshit runaround when I call them l8r 2day.

P.s. Why don't people use Facebook or whatever people use these days to let others know how bad the deal was and how misleading and deceptive the company is? I would but I'm not that savvy with FB :(

    Cheers

I want to take it up with Fair trading/ACCC - I even told the guy over the phone that I will be, and he said "go ahead".

Hopefully I can submit a complaint later today.

      • +2

I've lodged a complaint with FT.

Should have checked the reviews for this site, looks like they are regulars in botched promotions.

      • +1

        what disgusting customer service…

  • +2

    Hi..

I would be interested to see what FT or ACCC have to say.

I just called 'Subscribe_Today' aka Pacific Magazines 1300 668 118 to find out why I haven't even received a receipt/confirmation yet and was told the 'only guy' who does receipts has been away for a couple of weeks and is now this week trying to catch up on all the receipts due to the large take-up of subscriptions.

I didn't mention about my hairdryer yet, I want to see what's on the receipt when it arrives later this week first.

LOL sounded really lame that there is only one person charged with doing receipts at the company LOL

Do other people have their receipts saying about the hair dryer or other free gift ?

Does anyone have a copy of the original deal ? Screenshot ? Picture? or something? The original deal post above by 'bling' is too small to print out, zoom only distorts it…

When you click on the original deal icon now it no longer is the original deal :(

    Cheers

    Pookie

p.s. Fair Trading complaint lodged by me at 4.20pm via online system.

  • Hi

I just called them and asked about my gift and he said you are not eligible for that gift you might get something else, and he offered me full refund instead as well.

So I will get my money back in 5-10 working days.

    Cheers

    • Do you know who you spoke to?

      • +2

That's interesting. ..seems that staff don't know what other staff are advising callers lol

        So much contradictory information.

Note however that a full refund is not equal to them upholding their side of the deal as I understood it to be.

But on looking at the wording of the deal it does state "…the first 300…". But it is ambiguous as to whether that means limited to 300 hairdryers to give away and thats it. Or after 300 hair dryers are subscribers entitled to another gift in place of hairdryer?

If your receipt/confirmation email stated hairdryer or other gift then a full refund is not full performance of their obligations.

technically you could sue for breach of contract and ask for specific performance. There would be no damages because there isnt any quantifiable loss.

they will argue that the deal was either limited to the first 300 subscribers…or that it was only directed to renewing subscribers but the deal went viral..etc..

But as I said earlier the offer was ambiguous and could be struck down for that reason alone if that was the interpretation given by the authority body.

so your confirmation email is important.

At the very least I would hope there be a finding of misleading and deceptive conduct or similar.

I am disappointed too. I order friday 7th.
Rcvd email confirmation i would get a hairdryer and to this day - nothing! Not even a "Sorry we messed up and now you get nothing."
I emailed them several times with only automated response. Will call and speak to human.
Fortunately, i set my issues to start next month - hope that leaves me enough time to cancel.

        • Report to govt/ombudsman in your state. hope u have the receipt.

  • Hi MissP

Do not hesitate to logon or call the Dept Fair Trading NSW and lodge a complaint. Attach a copy of your confirmation email to your complaint as well as a screenshot of the original advert plus the companies subsequent amendment to the advert which advises they have run out of hairdryers etc…

It would also be good to find a copy of the original offers terms and conditions ??

You are entitled to the hair dryer or alternate replacement gift.

Thanks for the link to the original offer :)

Let me know how you go with Fair Trading.

    Cheers

  • Spoke with a chick called Marley/Amali/Mali however you spell it. I haven't received any gift yet, but according to her system, my order number 153162X still shows that the GHD should be the one being delivered to my address. I told her if I end up with something else, I'm gonna ask for a full refund to which she said that was fine. Told her I am not paying return postage of the unwanted gift also to which she said fine.

So I'm just going to play the waiting game….

  • I just spoke to them..not in first 300 and getting my money back…

  • What's the waiting time like when you guys called? I haven't been able to get in touch with them on the phone, and no one has replied my email :(
Did you get full or partial refund?
    Cheers.

    • Yeah took about 10-12 mins odd to get in touch on the phone. Was a fair wait.

      • Thanks aurotaro, just got off the phone, not the first 300 subscriber, so no ghd, and no substitute either even what's I was told a few weeks ago. Getting my partial refund in 10 working days, certainly won't be a return customer!!

        • +1

Push for the full refund mate. You should be pushing for it or atleast do a charge back on your credit card if they are playing hard ball. It's not you who made the mistake, it's them.

  • They just sent me a welcome email today after more than a month and on the side bar it advertises the same magazine for $59… I don't think so!

  • +2

    The bullshit continues :)

People should just lodge complaint via Fair Trading, as I have.

It's simply not good enough to treat customers this way. Stand up and be counted everyone.

Send companies resorting to this type of shonky practice a strong message..

    Cheers

because everyone clicked the ozbargain link they were automatically sent the same generic email with a different order number saying they were going to get the GHD. if u clicked the actual link directly from the subscribetoday website you would of either received the appropriate GHD confirmation email if you were indeed in the first 300 or the face cream if you missed out or nothing if you tried to subsribe even after that. its not really the companys fault we all clicked the same link and missed out. you dont have a case except to get your full refund back. u dont really have a case to complain about not getting a free GHD pookie. there is no bullshit. get a full refund and thats it.

    • +3

LOL So Kata are you saying that those people that have an email receipt confirming they are to receive a GHD hairdryer have no case ?

I think you should reconsider your position on this.

However, in saying that, it is your position and you are entitled to that opinion.

But I doubt you will get much support from those on here who were expecting what they contracted for and were receipted for, regardless of where they clicked the link or were redirected too. They paid they money, they company accepted the money, they issued a receipt confirming the agreement etc…

And from what I have read lately the company still is giving out contradictory advice, then reneging etc..

      So go figure ??

Anyway, long live free speech :)

      Cheers

lol all those people who know full well they were after 300 subscribers but still expect a GHD because their systems weren't automated. Get over it, you didn't suffer any loss except your time and effort because you tried to screw them out of a GHD.

I'm loving my $69 GHD btw.

  • called up, answered by a chap named Brett, he'll refund $69 less one issue = $63.28 back into my cc, no hair dryer no subscription lol.

  • +1

Wow. I got scammed. Paid the dosh. Got receipted, included GHD, and the useless mag. Just got knocked back on the GHD. I'll see what response my scathing email reply garners lol!

  • i got a full refund - said i was told i was "one of the lucky 300" and he said there was a mistake, offered full refund.

you could also say you havent received any issues either

Best of luck with these deceptive marketing techniques!

*scratch this post, should have finished reading the whole thread, turns out we all got scammed

    • Umm that's not true, a lot of people got them, I received mine ages ago.

  • Just a follow up from the Fair Trading case - they agreed to a complete refund.

  • I was following up on the refund and was just informed that they have acquired another batch of Hairdryers. Apparently we will be receiving one within the next two weeks.

Told them that If it does not turn up, will still exercise the offer of a full refund as they offered initially (renewal doesn't kick in until next month)

    • hope so. this is a joke

    • The promised one arrived yesterday.

Thanks for sorting this out PacMags.

Following up from my post on the 19/03,

I received my GHD Hair Dryer today via auspost. My order number was 153162*

Thanks Pacific Magazines. They even sent an apology letter in the mail stating the delay.

    • Same here, received on Friday. I was actually going to call them on Monday to see what my replacement gift was :D

      Very happy

  • Order 153190X and I just got my GHD today!

    • +1

Weird. My order number is close to yours. So, from the above comments, I assumed that there is no way I will be receiving the hairdryer so cancelled about 3 weeks ago and got my full $69 refund. TADA, the hairdryer arrives in the mail today.

    • order# 15320xx ghd unexpectedly arrived today as well - thanks op and pacmags :)

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/132801?page=3#comment-1927…

  • Got my hair dryer in the mail today! That's certainly a big surprise, thanks a lot OP!

  • Got my hairdryer today with a nice little letter apologising for the delay and explaining why (saying they had to order more).

Haven't given this a thought since I put the order in - they said upfront there would be a delay and that everyone would get a gift of some sort.

  • I'm still chasing mine but the guy over the phone said they received ~4000 orders ("it went viral" more like ozbargained!) , they had ordered an additional 300 ghds and are sending them out…

  • +1

I received my GHD hair dryer yesterday. I was around order 500 so very happy that they ordered additional hair dryers.

  • +1

So unexpected i received a GHD Air also today! it was a real downer when i didnt receive one from the initial batch. Lucky i didnt call and cancel the subscription.
BTw i ordered mine on the Friday afternoon.

  • +2

Bitched via email again last week. Was told a new shipment of hair dryers had been ordered to fix things. Unexpectedly, my hair dryer actually did arrive in the post today. And not a moment too soon - the wife's looking like a golliwog. :-D
