Travel Insurance Direct - 10% off

141
TIDGOLD

Was looking for a better deal on travel insurance and came across this one for 10% off your base cover. Your extras like snow cover, etc aren't discounted but this is still the best deal I've come across. Can also recommend them as I've had to make a claim in the past and it went through without drama.

Not sure on expiry either, but should be around for a while.

Happy travels.

  • Perfect timing, thanks OP

TID have had discount codes for years. No-one every buys TID insurance without one, do they? Here's a few more: TIDTHANKS, TIDSAVE, TIDOZ. Google and you'll find a stack of them.

    • +3

Yeah they have. But the best around at the moment was 6% - this one is 10%.

  • Medibank is coming $29 for me and TID is coming $52 .I am going to gold coast for one week this month

    • unless you're from overseas, wtf?

Won't neg the deal, but be very wary using these guys. Rejected my piddly claim of $200-odd based on some ambiguous wording buried in the fine print. This would have been fine, had they not wasted at least 6 hours of my time first requesting and re-requesting countless documents first. Joke of a company in my experience.

+1 for this. Had a medical claim, which they did eventually pay, but it took nearly 3 months of chasing on my part, and extremely poor communication and claims process on theirs to get it done.

If you're looking on product review, just as a heads up, I think they may be like Yelp - some negative reviews disappear, and negative comments are deleted. There were a bunch of people commenting on my review, and looking at it now, they've all been deleted, as have my "helpful review" points.

      • I have used TID a number of times and late last year I submitted a claim online while I was overseas (lost my phone in Vegas…). Money came through to my bank within weeks, before I even got home. I was worried since I didn't have receipts for the phone on me and the claim requested them but had no questions and no problems at all. All I had to do was submit a police report (I did this over the phone) and provide a reference number for the report.

To be honest, the only difficult thing in the process was trying to get my IMEI number from Telstra via their online chat :)

It wouldn't surprise me if that's how they operated. I went through my claim 4 times with 4 different people. It was the 4th one who rejected it. Seems silly on their part. It was such a tiny claim, pay it and I'll use them again. But they stuffed me around for months (just like your case) then rejected it anyway. Now I'll never use them again, and make it a point to tell others not to as well.

At any rate, it's a little off-topic. And I'm sure plenty of people have had claims that went fine. Experiences change from person to person.

The deal seems OK apart from that.

Based on that, why wouldn't you neg the deal?

I could find a company to service your car for half price, but if they take a dump on the drivers seat when you go to pick it up, it would hardly constitute a good deal.

      This company is no better.

typical that a coupon becomes available when i literally just paid for a policy last week for europe…

    • +1

Does the policy have a cooling off period so you can cancel it?

      • +2

You've got up to 14 days up to find a better deal after booking. Though I don't like the sound of that 'up to'…

Money back guarantee / cooling- off period
You have up to 14 days from the time you are issued your Certificate of Insurance to decide if the cover is right for you. This is called your cooling-off period.
If you decide that you don’t want this policy, you may cancel it within the cooling-off period. You will receive a full refund of the premium you paid, provided:
        a) you haven’t started your trip;
        b) you haven’t made a claim; and
        c) you don’t want to make a claim or exercise any other right under the policy.
You can also cancel your policy at any other time, but we will not refund any part of your premium.
You can cancel your policy during the cooling- off period by contacting TID or visiting tid.com.au.

Thanks op, lucky only bought mine 12 days ago :)

Cancelled and got myself a new one saved $5 bucks, going to spend it on my 0.3 burger and 1.4 McFlurry!

  • Guys just a general question…how do these insurances compare with the ones that come with some credit cards? (like the Platinum/Signature Citibank etc).

    • +1

general answer is the cr card freebies are feature limited. check in the PDS what you are actually covered for, check the excess, etc.
google (or search OzB as it has com up before) should reveal plenty on the subject.
still, cr card travel ins is better than none at all.

      • The free one with VISA platinum seems to be quite comprehensive, including Medivac and pretty much covered everthing the others covered.

I cant comment on excesses but i will check next time i travel in a couple of months.

    • credit card travel insurance is generally fine for most but of course ymmv so read the pds carefully :)

individual circumstances may vary, but I recently used Insureango with code 'Holidays10' Was cheaper than TID
better still is the 20% code for Insureandgo available to entertainment book holders. (Ent book owners should log on to ent book website to get code)

    • Cheers! The 'bare essentials' option at Insureandgo was just what I needed for minimal medical care - just saved $30 :)

  • I have dealt with TID in the past on a claim. Based on this experience I would recommend everyone avoid this company like the plague.

  • Naturally there's always good & bad experiences for every company, but I've claimed through them for a short hospital visit in Canada that knocked us back about $1000, they repaid it within 2 weeks of us claiming & it was quite simple so I often recommend them.

  • If you're looking for coverage for an OS skiing trip be careful, the insurers are now generally breaking out skiing coverage (including the all important hospital/medical) as a significant extra cost add on where previously it had been inclusive in most base policies. I took out a policy with TID in September that included skiing in the base however their PDS changed to exclude skiing from the base in October and it now costs another $80 (based on three weeks away) as a selected option when you do the quote…

  • I went overseas last year and our suitcase was basically torn apart as it came out the other end, clothes/cables/charges/perfumes/etc all missing.

didn't have receipts? (who would keep receipts for all clothes etc anyway?)

in the end they didnt care. not their problem.

  • Well got an email from TID saying policy expiring and clicked on link.
I put the TIDGOLD code in and clicked update….NO discount????????????????

  • I got a quote for Thailand & Myanmar - $98 less $5.88 discount = 6%

    WTF?

    • if you're travelling within the next 2 months cover for bangkok is basically non-existant.

      • Rubbish. Thailand is perfectly safe, including the capital. The only time insurers won't cover you is if DIAC issue a "do not travel" advisory.
