      Cheaper elsewhere as linked above.

    Cheaper elsewhere, not a bargain.

In other news, what is with the heavily discounted Scanpan items lately? Do they just have massively inflated RRP?

  • Is it worth noting that they're pretty mediocre knives anyway?

I was given a set a couple of years ago (family member got them as a value add for something or other)…terrible to use & don't hold an edge IME.

  • Hi guys,

I can assure you that I am not a rep as I just purchased this set this week and honestly thought it was a good deal so I thought I'd throw it up here. My apologies if I offended anyone (foobar). I didn't expect such an aggressive and accusatory response. (foobar)

Thanks for the advice from the positive posters and also the re-direct to Peter's. I am going to return my set and get a different set from Peter's.

Can anyone recommend a better set at a similar price?

    Cheers.

    • My apologies if I offended anyone (foobar)

No offense at all, just the typical "look at this fantastic price compared to RRP" type post we see here all too often but when you spend a few seconds and dig a tiny bit deeper, you find out it's been that price pretty much all along and it's often available much cheaper elsewhere too. As JLove has pointed out below, it's also cheaper at Myer than it is from Kitchenware Superstore which is nothing short of astounding.

I didn't expect such an aggressive and accusatory response. (foobar)

Eh? I said I "sensed" an undeclared rep, that's it. I also sense it's raining outside, it's quite possible it actually isn't though. Just looked, light drizzle!

My "facepalm" meant that you had not provided a link to the item, the only hint of what store the deal was for was down in the Related Store section of the post. The image that you uploaded didn't contain anything that identified where it came from, had it not been for the Related Store section, it would have been a complete mystery. I found the item on their site and pasted the link so that anyone interested could actually go and view the page and place an order if they desired. The "facepalm" was indicative of the frustration I experienced in having to do this at all as it should have been linked to in the first place - "Link to the product page of the deal" seems rather self explanatory yet for whatever inexplicable reason, it appears to baffle some.

When I said "Bah, friggin spam, it's always been this price" - this was added after I looked up the page on webarchive and saw that this item had been this same price since at least June 22nd of 2013, making the claim of "Usually $669" quite laughable. I referred to this as spam as they appear to have had this item for the same price for quite some time and the regular selling price of something just aint a bargain in most cases, especially when it's available from at least two other retailers for considerably less.

I'll try to explain what made me think you might be an undeclared rep - It's not at all unusual for a business owner to join up one day and post a deal the next and sometimes they either forget or intentionally don't tick the rep box or they pretend to be a customer and say something like "look what I found" or similar, and quite often it's not a particularly good price and can be had elsewhere far cheaper. It's also a typical tactic to list the outrageous RRP to make the price they post it for appear more attractive, even though they have never actually sold the item for the RRP and have in all probability sold the item for the so called "bargain" price they put in their deal all along.

I hope that this has cleared up some of your concerns, happy to explain further if required.

I do have a question - do you happen to know the owners or any of the staff in the store at all? You have hit the like button on their facebook page a number of times and you also have only the one business listed in your "shopping gear I love" section of your pinterest page. Not for a second suggesting either of these things mean anything untoward, just curious if you do actually know the owners or any of the staff.

  • Oh, and can I please ask you Adsy how you found Peter's as I did a Google Search for "Scanpan Classic 14 Piece Knife Block" and Peter's of Kensington didn't come up in the serach results??? I would love to know how to find these deals when searching for specific products to buy. Thanks.

    Cheers.

Its $229 at Myers , surprisingly cheaper than this deal.

  • Facepalm…

    I see.

Thank you for your investigation of my social comings and goings, however, I will respond. The physical store is local to me (Burleigh, Gold Coast) and I have bought may things from the physical store over the years. While I will say that I am friendly with the staff at KS, I would not say that I am friends with them any more than I am friends with the checkout staff at my local Woolworths.

My main concern here is that my intentions were honest and pure, albeit quick to assume that this was a good deal sure. But to have a response which although you see it as innocent and dare I say helpful, my perception was that you were viewing me a nuisance and hiding my identity of being a "undeclared rep" which I am now educated that this is a bad thing… thank you for your taking the time to comment though, it has been a eye opener as a first time poster here at OB.

    One last point to ponder.

If I am to take your point that I was reading into your comment too much ("Eh? I said I "sensed" an undeclared rep, that's it. I also sense it's raining outside, it's quite possible it actually isn't though. Just looked, light drizzle!") with my statement of "I didn't expect such an aggressive and accusatory response. (foobar)" then why did the mod remove your comments… no reply necessary, just something to consider when responding to the next new face here at OB.

    Cheers.
