anyone in Perth might want to check this out.

    PLE - $199
    http://ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemId=613761

  • haha… you might want to advertise WHERE and WHO is selling this hard-drive.

  • ummm, where can you buy them from? lol
Your deal link is to an image, not a website either?

  • What store? Got a link?

I used my amazing google powers and found it: http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdau/en_AU/pd/ThemeID.…

  • Sorry guys. This is my first post.
    I updated the post.
Mods, can you please link to the site?

    http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdau/en_AU/pd/ThemeID.…

    • Done. In future, just put the direct link in.

Now that I've searched the Internet to find the link, this price is quite good.

      • Did the price change when you found the link?

        • Huh?

  • I wouldn't use choice as a site for hard drive reviews. Does anyone know if these are easily crackable?

depends on from which height probably

  • FWIW this has been listed as low as $165 AUD imported from Amazon US (IIRC)

  • Any one knows the RPM?

    • most likely a green inside so probably 5900rpm

      • From the website it doesn't directly say its a USB3 althought you can get faster speed than USB2

        Performance Specifications
        Serial Transfer Rate
        USB 3.0
Serial Bus Transfer Rate (USB 3.0) 5 Gb/s (Max)

        Ultra-fast transfer rates

My Book desktop storage is optimized for the best possible data transfer rates. Connect this drive to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port to save and access files up to 3x faster than with USB 2.0.

I was thinking of buying that on the weekend. Ended up buying this:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-4TB-Expansion-USB-3-0-Ext…

Seagate 4TB USB3, $173 delivered (Aus ebay seller, not sure of ABN)

    • +1

Listing mentions $25 postage for a total of $198

      • oh wtf strange. When I bought it it was free postage..

Oops: wrong seller's listing. my bad

  • http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat… - Seagate 4TB 7200rpm for $10 more ($209)

    • I have one of these and I don't like it at all. It's noisy and the software that comes with it is clunky. Much prefer the WD drives/software.

  • URGENT :- this is a great buy as Seagate have a very high failure rate
    http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/hdds_from_hitachi_are_most_…
Please go down and see the graphs

    • I was under the impression it depends on the age of the drive as to whether seagates are bad.

Seagate really struggled with 3tb and 4tb. The 4tb backup plus linked at officeworks was particularly bad. The model on the ebay link above seems ok these days. But it's so hard to be sure, I'd appreciate the opinion of another researcher (the opinion above is my own)

Theoretically the 3tb and 4tb should be built on the same technology, and other than having another platter in the 4tb, the failure rates should be similar. In that graph you linked they are not.

  • Has anyone who ordered one of these, and been charged, received a shipping notification yet?

    • I placed an order through the WD website on 28 Jan, and have just received it 10 minutes ago (31 Jan).

A shipping notification was sent out to me on 30 Jan
