I see that the daily newsletter has changed from "New Forum Topics" to "Hot Discussion Topics". What's the reason for this? It was much more useful the old way for me, as "Hot Discussion Topics" could produce the same entries for several days. In a daily newsletter, notification of new topics since the last newsletter seems much more logical.
Why the daily newsletter change?

Agree.
Ok sure, I can add that.
Yes, that would be good, thanks.
You can now opt to have new forum topics listed instead of hot discussion topics. Go to My Account -> subscriptions -> newsletter.
Thanks for the option, moocher.
Thanks
I haven't yet seen the new implementation (been away, and my newsletter to be delivered tomorrow morning) however I suspect that the change might be a bit too simplistic. The "Hot Discussion Topics" meant to be different every day as well which makes it part of DAILY newsletter. However with growing number of forums the New Forum Topics is getting too big, each forum listing only the 3 most recent topics.
The reason behind the change is to shorten the list, and highlight topics that people participated in. With deals we can order with votes. With forum topics we measure with number of comments.
Will take a look after getting back next week.
The "Hot Discussion Topics" meant to be different every day
Yup it looks like the query needs tweaking. Sorry guys, I'll fix it up.
Fair enough. I guessed it may have something to do with the number of new forum topics; it's just that the first lot of hot topics today included some that were 3 or 4 days old, and they had already been in the list of new topics. If they are going to be different each day from now on, that would be better.
If they are going to be different each day from now on, that would be better.
This will be the case now.
I know you can customise some aspects of the daily newsletter.
Are you able to introduce customised requests for the forum topics listed in the newsletter? I liked the old format better and feel I might miss out on topics that interest me under the new format.
I usually just keep track of the general discussion forum and occasionally the site discussion forum. Occasionally the titles of topics from other sections caught my eye and I looked in the other forums if there was a topic I liked. I don't have time to check every forum section every day so I'll probably miss out on some forum topics I would have read.
I find that the new format costs me more time than I want to spend checking various forum sections. I know some people probably like the new format. I just think it would be nice to be able to customise it like other aspects of the newsletter. I think you could keep more members happy that way.
You can now opt for the old format.
Thanks for the option. I will update my account now.
For those who rely on the newsletter to get new forum topics, there's now a new forum discussions page on OzBargain that you may find useful.
Even if you have opted for your newsletter to show the new forum topics block, it is still limited to max of 3 topics per forum category (always has been).
Thanks, moocher. Good idea.
Maybe we could have an option for either
