  • Ahhh love this beer but your shipping costs to Sydney really kill the deal and no discount on shipping for multiple cases

  • Definitely one of the best Japanese beers going around.

    • Is this actually Japanese, or is it the brown coloured diluted alcohol in a Suntory branded can that is brewed in China and is sold by BWS?

This is the real thing. Premium Malts is not brewed under licence outside Japan that I am aware of.

The one you refer to is Suntory Magnum Dry, which is an inferior beer.

        • This is the real japanese brewed beer from japan.

        • Actually, the don't sell Magnum Dry within Japan anymore (they used to), due to poor sales.

        • that sounds like our Fosters lol i see it everywhere in USA.

        • It's inferior brown coloured diluted alcohol.. calling it beer is false advertising, cause I couldn't taste much in the way of flavour.
Most disappointing beer I've ever had, especially given the level of excitement I had after finding Suntory so cheap!

        • wow is it really that bad? ive never tried the super dry one before. As BWS import that themselves, lucky we dont stock that then :)

        • It really is/was…
My wife refused to touch the stuff and I seriously considered throwing it out, but my tightarsed-ness won over and I slowly made my way through it.
I seriously think they've diluted beer with water and then topped up the alcohol content with spirit.

hitachino nest espresso stout and celebration ale are the best :)

    For relaxing times…

  • This my friend is sold in Family Mart or 7-11 for 350-450 yen per 500ml can in Japan .

If you like (or don't mind) malty Japanese beer you should jump on it, espeically if you can pick up in Melbourne

  • It's my personal favorite of the mainstream Japanese lagers (others being Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo).

Not a bad price, considering the low volume exports. Approaching Japanese domestic price at $80.

The normal price is a bit much though. Much better beers available for $125!!!

    • Yea they prices went up ever since the restriction of importing original japanese beers was put in place last year.

Shame we cant get any original kirin or asahi or sapporo anymore. :(

    • It's my personal favorite of the mainstream Japanese lagers (others being Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo).

      better than yebisu?

      • I find it quite similar to yebisu, better or not is hard to say personal preference i guess?

this product is used to replace yebisu as they have restricted it being importing into australia aswell.

    • Yes last month they did a $95 a case.

This special for the new arrival batch that landed in Australia last week, due to a few cases was damaged during the unloading process all the boxes was wet and thrown away so the wholesaler is doing a massive discount to get rid of the pallet that doesn't have any boxes.

they got 6 months before the best before ends mid July

  • I placed an order, thanks for the deal. How long do I have to wait to be able to pickup?

    • Pickup is available tomorrow onwards. :)

      we open from 12-9am Mon - Wed & 12am - 10pm Thur - Sat

      sunday we open 12am - 3pm and 5pm - 9pm

      Thank you!

What is this law about importing japanese beer?

Also, does anyone know of anywhere in Brisbane that sells cartons of genuine japanese beer. $25 delivery per cartons kills the deal for me.

  • they have a restriction on importing Japanese beers into Australia as we have the local made kirin / asahi / sapporo so its competing with the local market so the brewery has stop the exporting of Japanese beers into Australia. its not a law its a restriction put up by the brewery themselves.

Japanese beers made in other countries are still able to import into Australia.

I know there is a few Japanese representative who can still import the real Japanese beers in for the restaurants but the price is about 90-120 for a case of kirin or asahi imported from japan.

  • BUYER BEWARE !!!

Store rep is lying about best before date

I just picked up a slab of the "new arrival batch" and the expiration date has been crudely removed from the bottom of the can with a pungent cleaner. Some have half of the date seen and which looks to state 2012.

Beers are not in original packaging and everything in the store looks to be over 10 years old. They even have cask wine which is no longer produced.

Store rep is obviously trying to unload very very old stock as new arrival. A quick search on here confirm previous item for sale

    Shame on you bobby beer

  • I ordered on Tuesday and it says it was only shipped yesterday? Not really great service for such high shipping costs also means no beer for AU Day :(
