  • Some of their hire price is dearer than the price I look for bargain buy. SPAM.

    • On 2nd thought, REP, can we each ozb member register and get $50 each and then chip in same day for OZB meetup?? that would be awesome.

do you get that when you hire an item you are paying for a lot more than the item?
You are first and foremost paying for somebody else who is responsible if it fails (this costs a fortune even if you dont want it, it is the cost of doing business) and for the equipment to be checked before and after you take it. You also dont need somewhere to store it til, and after you need it.
They also cant just buy quit stock like us, they need to either buy many times more than they need, or buy knowing the item is replaceable long term with identical items. You are also commonly paying for delivery, pickup, setup and operation of equipment. It isnt fair to compare buy to hire.

And no, not related to them, have just worked on both ends of staging hire.

I agree with your point, but if I am going to arrange an expo, a $50 discount would be least of my worry. Sure, if you are going to hire this place anyway, $50 less is not bad, but to publish it as a bargain here makes no sense, at least to me.

        • if you are putting together something where you just need a geazebo and some furniture it could be quite a hand tho. Decent chunk on some signage too, awesome if ur putting on a dance party and just need a little furniture for people to chill on.

      • PLEASE SEE MY POST BELOW ABOUT THEIR WELL HIDDEN AND SCARY AS HELL HIRE TERMS

  • I'm planning an event later this year - prices seem reasonable.

I would suggest making the newsletter signup a bit more prominent - I had to use Chrome's search to even find it!

  • Suddenly more concerned with some of their T&Cs than anything else (they hide em til the end of checkout)

    1. In the event of a break-down or failure of goods the Hirer shall notify the Owner forthwith and
on no account attempt to or repair the goods without the prior consent of the Owner. In no event
      shall the Owner be responsible
for any expenditure and damages and/or loss incurred by the Hirer
arising out of any breakdown or failure of the equipment whether caused by fair wear and tear,
negligence on the part of the Owner or any person or any reason whatsoever
      .

    and

    1. The Hirer hereby indemnifies the Owner in respect of any damage or loss to property or persons
caused by use, operation or keeping of goods for any reason whatsoever during the period of hire.

Chair breaks and kills somebody working for you, not their problem. Even if they can be shown to have been directly negligent, even if they KNEW it would likely happen, even if it arises directly from their actions.
Projector catches fire and burns down the expo hall killing thousands - your problem, not theirs (even if it was due to a botched wiring fix by their new work experience boy) - or that's what that says

    1. Upon termination of this agreement for any reason whatsoever the Owner may enter into or upon
any premises where the goods may be without prejudice to the rights of the Owner to recover from
the Hirer any monies due hereunder or any damages for breach hereof and the Hirer indemnifies the
Owner in respect of any claims, damages or expenses owing out of action under this clause.

So if they THINK you have stuff somewhere (but it has been stolen from you for instance) they can break in and you wear the damage

    1. The Hirer shall allow the Owner access at any time during normal business hours to inspect the
goods and to enter into and upon any premises where the goods are or are presumed to be for any
purpose incidental to or arising out of this agreement.

Free entry anywhere you are hiring for the boss and his mates, your shout

    1. The Hirer shall………protect the goods against executio, seizure or distress and indemnify the
Owner against all losses, charges, costs, damages and expenses incurred by the Hirer in respect hereof.

Nice little hidden clause if the sheriffs come to repossess his stuff - you wear the cost of preventing such :S Probably isnt intended that way (more against it happening if YOU have the sheriffs round)- but sure reads that way

    Claims:
Any claims relating to the quality of goods/equipment and/or services provided (including any
missing, damaged or fault) must be made at the time of delivery. No discussion will be entered
    into after the exhibition/event closes.

Better check like crazy when the stuff arrives, cos if you dont notice its stuffed til you use it - you're stuffed

    Cancellation:
All goods/equipment cancelled after delivery will be charged at full rate plus cartage & placement.
Goods/equipment cancelled prior to exhibition/event opening or move-in, but not installed will be charged at >50% of the full rate.

So be dead sure not to book until as late as possible because it costs no more to book 3 days before, but cancelling 3 months or more before you will lose half your dough

    Damage Waiver :
Damage Waiver is payable to cover the cost associated with the normal wear and tear of the
goods/equipment. It does not cover theft or misuse of the good/equipment and so it does not
insure the goods being hired. It is compulsory and it is not refundable.

So this one is a fee for nothing, and waives no responsibility. How is this not part of the hire fee?

I am not even sure how much of this is even legally valid (and hence able to be applied if if you do agree), IANAL but i dont think you can just sign away your responsibility for your negligence in Australia.
Still, not a contract i want to be in for.
