We'd also like to confirm that none of our services are oversold. This means that you'll always have access to the resources you pay for - on lightning fast servers. We're so confident about our servers that the 9WEB website itself is hosted on our professional account!

Understand also what unlimited means: you're free to use as much bandwidth as you like - unlimited does not mean infinite however, for example an unmetered 100Mbit/s connection gives a maximum transfer of roughly 30TB/month or 30,000Gbytes/month.

The word 'Unlimited' has been used and abused quite aggressively in the telecommunications and online service industry.

Good deal for shared Australian servers. From my own experience their customer service is excellent (just had an issued resolved in less than 2 minutes from lodging the support ticket).

damn just bought a few for $2 :(

    From Dictionary.com:

    un·lim·it·ed [uhn-lim-i-tid] Show IPA
    adjective
    1.
not limited; unrestricted; unconfined: unlimited trade.
    2.
boundless; infinite; vast: the unlimited skies.
    3.
without any qualification or exception; unconditional.

I think it may be you guys who need to understand what unlimited means. Why not just sell it as a 30 TB limit, rather than use words you don't actually mean?

Agree, great deal, but there's no need for these shenanigans. And I can't think of a reputable telecommunications company who still use the word unlimited without meaning it.

    • If you read most reputable telecommunications they include a Fair Usage Policy. From what I can gather Skype, Optus, Vaya and Vodafone have this, from what I have dealt with.

It is unlimited, but they do state any unusual activity, say if you send 1,000 text messages in a day, then that's considered not fair usage. Even though Optus said, go ahead and send 1,000 text messages lol!

      Which is fair enough.

      • +5

Which outlines my point, why use the term? It's not like 30TB is a small allowance, so why not just sell it as that. The last sentence in this post sounds like the seller agrees the term has been misused in the industry, so why use a term, then offer a different definition of the term?

I just think that if a word has a meaning, marketing people shouldn't use that word then re-define it to suit their needs.

        • +4

Good point. It would be an advantage to our competitors if we didn't, because we all know that hosts use it pretty much 99% of the time. I think the meaning we wished to convey fits with the word 'unlimited'. You're free to use as much bandwidth as you like (unlimited). However the speed of that data leaving the datacenter is limited.

        • What if i uploaded a large file and let everyone download it? :D

        • Only have 1gb of HDD Space

      • The difference is that with phone operators we are limited in our options - with web hosting, the choices are unlimited!

      • +2

Actualy I think he is being very honest. Unlike the "fair use policy" he isn't enforcing any limits or shaping you once you go over. Rather he is giving a full 100mb connection and letting you know that due to the speed of that connection and the fact that it's probably shared will mean that you are unlikely to get more than 30tb if you ran it flat out. it's a matter of maths not limits. If you wanted more than 30tb then you would need a faster link.

Personally I think hes actual going beyond what's required by even mentioning the "effective" limit.

  • Are you guys a reseller for another company?

    • I think they resell VentraIP. OP please tell me if I'm wrong

      • +3

Yes, we do sometimes resell other companies plans. This adds a neat layer of separation of services, without sacrificing quality. We then pretty much just deal with support.

A lot of the best telecom companies are just resellers. It's a great model. Better service and cheaper products at the same level of quality.

        Cheers guys =)

  • Can you transfer .biz domains?

    • Yes, please email us so we can manually set it up.

  • I'm currently considering this, as it seems to be more beneficial to pay $12/year than continue using my free webhost (000webhost).
I host a Minecraft, Teamspeak and Terraria servers for friends - am I able to create a subdomain, eg. minecraft.mydomainname.com, to connect to minecraft server instead of the IP with this host? I was previously able to with GoDaddy, but that option went when I switched host.
And am I able to do private domain registration? Not a big must, but I would like to stay concealed :)

    • +2

Yes to all the above. We offer free DNS hosting for you can point your subdomains to any IP you wish. I personally also host some game servers and instead of direct IP's, I just have gs0.[domain].com

Private registration are available. You need to specifically request it however, just submit a support ticket requesting the private domain registration and we'll handle it from there.

Let me know if you have more questions =)

      • Wow, fast reply! Is there any extra charge for private registration? Also, is it worth transferring my domain considering I've recently renewed it for another year?

        • +2

No extra charge! If they end in .au the transfer is free. If they're the standard .com .net .org etc… then it'll cost $10 to transfer which includes another year on top of the expiration date.

        • Awesome! Thanks for answering all the questions! I've put my order through :)
Will the transfer take long to take effect?

        • +1

Probably a few business days. We also send out a confirmation email to the whois Registrant Email. You'll need to click the link before the transfer takes place.

If you have any difficulties shoot an email through at: [email protected]

  • I wouldn't trust anyone with my data for $1 a month.

    • +9

same thing even if it was $100 a month, you should only trust yourself.
So not a bad deal here.

      • +1

Can't even trust yourself as you can never predict when hardware will fail

    • How about $2? I'm actually considering this deal, but site not ready.

  • Question for the Rep: are you offering whois protection on domain registration?

    • +3

Yes. Only for .com .net and .org's though =). It's also free…

      • Thanks! I like what I'm hearing!! :)

      • Any chance of matching or beating your own deal from Black Friday? It wouldn't be ozbargain if it didn't try and save 17 cents a month ;)

        • Unfortunately no. I doubt we'll ever lower prices to that low again :/… thanks for asking though.

  • Rep, do I need to have an ABN to get com.au domain?

    • Unfortunately, yes :/

    • +6

Just gonna put it out there. Becoming a sole trader is easy as.

      • very easy…

  • Hmmm tempting and a very good price.. This would be excellent to create my own monitoring service to check my home router as well as a website @ work and sites I've done for friends.

With the cronjobs is there a limit how often they can run? Ideally I'd like to run it every 60 seconds - a small php script to attempt to establish a connection to a port (like 80) and if it fails send an email …

I would assume there would some limits on number of emails to be sent per hour? (not that I'd see it generating a lot)

    • +1

There is limits but I don't see what your describing hitting those limits at all.

      Cheers =)

      • Thank you for your fast reply.

        Bought :)

        • Good stuff. Let us know if we can help with anything.

  • +4

Thanks - in true OzBargain style I've just ordered and paid for a domain and hosting - now I just have to figure out what to do with them!

    • GREAT! =)

      • n00b question but can I host multiple domains to this?

        • Correct, this kinda thing is called 'addon' domains. Cheers =)

  • +1

    Do you allow SSH ?

    • Yes, temporarily only. We will have to whitelist your domain, SSH access expires in 30 days. We generally expect people to use FTP to connect to their accounts.

      • +5

This is the same as VentraIP which I hate because VentraIP only allow up to 3 ip addresses to be whitelisted. I'm on dynamic IP and have to basically login, whitelist my ip, get a code, etc.. everytime I need access. I use SSH for deploying changes, FTP deployment is so obselete and does not scale..

        • Can I send you request every 30 days to open up SSH ?

        • I suppose :P

  • Placed an order, wont rate until it is moved from 'pending' status

    • Your order should have been activated by now. Please shoot through an email to [email protected] is there's any problems.

  • The promotion code you entered has been applied to your cart but no items qualify for the discount yet - please check the promotion terms
    where are these terms?

    • You need to select yearly as the billing term =)

  • Do you offer sub domain zones with the DNS hosting? basically I need MX records for subdomains. ta.

    • Yes! However you need to do a little cPanel 'trick'. Add the subdomain as an addon domain and you'll be able to edit it's MX records. Cheers =)

      • great, sold. ugghhh paypal :(

  • +2

Been using 9web since the the last deal (6 months?) - working great. Cpanel is good and like the automatic backups for joomla.

    • Thanks for the kind words glide, glad everything is going smoothly.

  • Rep, I am more interested in running python (e.g. django websites). Do you have any plans which give me access to a recent version of python, or let me install it myself?

    Thanks.

    • We've been looking into this. But at the moment no :/

      • ok well thanks for the quick feedback anyway.

        • No worries =)

  • hey rep. I currently have a .com.au domain hosted elsewhere. Can i purchase this plan now and then transfer my hosting over later in the year?

    • +1

For sure. Just tell the system you'll update your nameservers and it'll accept the order.

      • thanks!

        • No worries =)

  • +1

Thanks for this good deal. It's nice to support the local guys.

    • Cheers =)

  • Hi, do you support Ruby and Ruby on Rails? What about SSH access?

    • We support only temporary SSH access. We will have to whitelist your domain, SSH access expires in 30 days. We generally expect people to use FTP to connect to their accounts.

As for RoR, we do support it.

    • What about git?

  • Hey Rep, I did the domain transfer, but it failed as I apparently had to cancel my private registration at GoDaddy. Will it automatically try again, or is there something I need to do? I sent an email to [email protected], but I haven't yet received a reply. Maybe I'm just impatient..

    • Didn't receive your email. Please send me a PM.

  • +1

What if I don't have a domain yet (still trying to think of a name), can I buy your hosting package without a domain?

    • +1

Not really. Just send us an email when you're ready referencing your OzBargain name. We'll make a one-time code for you. Cheers =)

      • +2

Same thing here. Will be creating domain in 2 month time will i be able to sign up and get your special code?

        • Send us an email when you're ready referencing your OzBargain name =)

  • Hi. Am I able to add a dedicated IP for SSL?

    • Yes, if you purchase an SSL through us.

      • And if I want to get SSL from elsewhere? And what about self-signed ones for testing?

  • Hi Rep, are you bringing business and corporate plan in aswell? I hope you can do like the black Friday deal as I miss out :(

    • +1

Yes, we'll do a business plan deal in two weeks. Thanks for asking =)

      • Thanks rep, I will shall wait till then to join up :)

  • Can I host a .net website on your hosting package, with a sql server database?

    • Looks like "no". Linux based only. Confirm?

      • That's correct. Linux only servers. We will be adding windows in the future.

  • +3

I have been using 9web for the past year, and they've been great. I've brought over 3 website hostings to them, and any issues are resolved within 24 hours.

    • +3

Same here. This is a great deal!

  • -2

Are you able to ugrade existing customers to unmetered bandwith? I took this similar deal back in September, and it didn't have unmetered bandwith, but I only have 99999MB.

  • +5

Are you for real? Sending password in plain text (registration) ??

Who does that? Please fix that.. not very "secure"

    • Seconded. Please don't do this, it's one of the dumbest security errors that can be made.
How NOT to Store Passwords! - Computerphile

      • +1

Hahaha, thanks for the headsup. It's on our to-do list now =)

  • +2

It sounds like this is a great company and people really love them. One thing to consider is that this hosting service is regularly available for $2 a month, $24 a year - so don't necessarily rush to make a decision just to save $1 a month.

    • +1

Also consider this is saving $1 per month for life. So if you host for many years you can save a fair amount.

Having said that they do offer good deals on OzB regularly

  • Are private nameservers an option with this hosting? If so, what are the extra costs?

    • Not natively. You can however set them up yourself.

  • Nice deal, however lack of ongoing SSH access kills it for me.

  • For noobs like me wanting to learn more about building a site (not for e-commerce) is it worth registering a domain through them and getting this deal and having an experiment?

Anyone got some links to a good guide for beginners?

    Thanks

    • Yes. Get an account, login to cPanel admin interface, go to Softaculous App Installer section down the bottom, click on Wordpress icon and you will be done in 15 minutes.

  • I am with serversinseconds currently, for a few months their service was excellent, then suddenly, it went to shit, i am still disappointed, might move to this. Seems good. But 1gb storage isn't much…

  • I'm definitely considering this plan (since my hosting is almost over) and would like to transfer my .com domain over too. However the domain still has until the beginning of next year until it expires. While I know that it's possible to if it's a couple of months later, I would like to know if it would be possible to host my blog now with you, and then transfer the domain later on?

    • Yes. Definitely, just choose update nameservers when placing your order.
