  • I paid about $170 for this same drive last year from ShoppingSquare, and that was a good price at the time compared to MSY and CPL which were over $200 at the time.

    Nice deal…

  • Well I did pay the same price for a 640Gb Maxtor last year but it wasn't USB powered. Other than that Lacie drives seem to have a good reputation.

    • Apples and oranges. This is a 2.5" HDD not a 3.5"
It seems like a good deal considering 2.5" 320GB are almost that price on their own.

EDIT: Oh wait I just complimented a ShoppingSquare deal and didn't see the shipping costs… Well I suppose they've pulled it off this time, $117 still appears to be cheaper than the competition pre-shipping. But I still find their pricing/shipping policy misleading.

      • More like trinkets and sprinkles.

I doubt many folks by drives due to form factor. It's size that's a primary concern.

          Speak for yourself.

Form factor counts when you want to take a portable drive with you. 3.5" external drives tend to be externally powered thus requiring you to carry a heavy AC adaptor, not to mention the casing itself is usually much bigger.

I have a Seagate Desktop Freeagent 1TB for external backups, and a I-O Data 500gb 2.5" which can easily slip in to my jacket pocket for taking stuff with me on the road/friend's places. No way I'd do the same with the Seagate.

        • +2

I think most folks would take the form factor into consideration, especially for the portability side of things. Carrying a 3.5" drive with power adapter doesn't even put it in the same league as 2.5" USB powered drives.

        • Form Factor is 100% of my purchasing decision.
The right tool for he right job.
Do I need a simple portable drive to keep in my laptop bag with just a single cable to run it
Do I need a cheap big slow dumb drive for my Drobo
Do I need a faster snappier drive for inside my desktop
Do I need a lightning fa$t drive for an OS boot drive in my desktop.

HDD capacity (size) is merely a matter of buying at the GB/$ sweet spot, at the time of purchasing.

  • ahh.. nice one. I need another one after dropping my 1TB last night.

  • this is a top price!!!

    big plus from me!

you don't often see usb powered 2.5" drives for this price!
