*** MORE INFORMATION ***
The TomTom Navigation app requires a GPS signal. 3G-enabled iPads, iPhone 3G and later models have an internal GPS receiver. Users of non-3G iPads and iPod touch 2nd gen and later models will require an external GPS receiver. The original iPhone and iPod touch are not supported.
(1) Check http://www.tomtom.com/navigation/iphone for availability per country. Services are available via in-app purchase and require a mobile phone connection. Your operator may charge you for the data used and costs may be significantly higher when used abroad. Services can only be used on one device at the same time. If you want to use your subscription to a different device, restore your purchases in the TomTom Shop on your preferred device.
(2)Announces street names in the following languages: English UK, English US, English Australian.
(3)Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
(4)Photos can only be used for navigation if you have enabled Location Services in the Camera application.

According to App Shopper this is a seasonal discount that will likely expire in the next few days.

It seems the most recent update to tie in with IOS 7 has not gone well with ratings and comments being pretty scathing. I've had it for a couple of years now and am still happy with the latest version and was chuffed to stumble across the live traffic discount.
It's an expensive app but I prefer not to have 'another' device to manage and have found it to be invaluable for unfamiliar cities and live traffic updates locally.

I know its made leaps and bounds since it first came out, but seriously Apple Maps? Gross.

What's wrong with Apple maps? It's worked flawlessly every time I've used it.

This is offline maps; lane guidance; voices to tell you where to go; ability to navigate to points of interest; do multiple locations in one trip; it knows where the safety cameras are and what the speed limit is. You can pay extra to find out how bad the traffic is in an area right now and have a route calculated that avoids bad traffic or stretches of road.

  • My parents Via 120 (I think that was the model? or was it 160?) stopped working. (doesn't connect to GPS) Any good deals on good TomTom models? What about the new ones, with the new UI, they look pretty cool.

  • FREE Lifetime Maps.

What do they mean? Cause I know for a fact that GPS units refer to Lifetime of the product which is only a few years..

    • That's an interesting point as this is strictly a software product. Essentially the purchase is tied to your Apple account. So as long as your Apple account is valid you should receive updates. This is a big advantage over physical GPS devices which have a finite life span.

There are new versions of the application periodically, and there are map updates sent out periodically that do not require an application update. Both are not charged for.

Great deal on the best car navigation app out there.

Google Maps doesn't a pretty good and accurate job which is free…

  • i bought this before both google maps and apple maps had navigation. was always flawless… for $50 it's not a bad deal.

i pretty much use google maps exclusively now - but if you have limited reception and are planning a big trip, it can be handy to have offline maps.

  • Isn't the Apple Maps based on Tomtom mapping data anyway?

Given you can buy a brand new Garmin/Tomtom GPS for under $100 quite regularly at Harvey Norman, it's a bit hard to stomach the $50 when it's dependent on you having a stand/charger in your car, and you're unable to use the phone for other things simultaneously (e.g. music/calls over bluetooth).

I guess it's good for offline mapping and when you're not carrying your dedicated GPS…

    • I know initially Australia's maps came from some unknown company and America's came from TomTom.

  • Yet another reason why I'm glad I switched to Nokia WP8

  • Awesome app I bought it years ago when it first came out, hands down the best gps app out there. Thanks for the deal going to finally try the traffic purchase.

  • Live Traffic In app purchase 50% off now $19.99

Where is the info for this? The TomTom shop is showing 12 months for $39.99
    Has this expired?

    • Cheeky Buggers (Tom Tom that is),
      It has expired…..
Now the App is $75 !
Traffic updates are back to $39.99

      Sorry Peeps !!
