Red and White Clean Skins at 6 for $12 from Dan Murphys

500

Chardonnay and Cab Merlot clean skin wines in a half carton for $12. I don't imagine this is great wine and probably isn't going to improve with age but it is BBQ season. :)

Free delivery might work too: DMWEL0114 (thanks to rompastompa and webtherapist OP)

Well, at least it will be a change from my usual cheapie option ($3 Bowler's Run).

    • +2

Bowlers run isn't bad. I have had expensive wines that have tasted awful, I know what I am sticking to!

    • +3

Haha that's my go-to cheapie as well. At that price it just needs to be drinkable, and it is.

    • +6

You mean $2.85 ea and sometimes $2.55 each (purchased in any 6) … those savings add up to buy more free crap we don't need from OzB

  • Anyone tried these DM cleanskins ? What's the verdict, drinkable or for cooking only ?

    Add lemonade & fruit, Sangria!

Yes, confirmed. Free Delivery works using the above code… I just purchased 2 half-cases of Chardonnay for $24 delivered. Cheers RompaStompa and cheers OP!

Hope it's semi-reasonable otherwise the wife will be drinking a LOT of punch :P

  • Sounds like goon in bottles

    • Bottles are for the fashion-conscious.

The red is low alcohol 12.5%. This is at least 1% lower than the lowest red I drink. Means that there was not a lot of sweetness (sugar) in the grape (late harvest or lower end of quality grape). And the wine maker did not add any extra sugar to boost the alcohol. i.e made to a requested price, or a very inexperienced wine maker. The better red wines have 14+% alcohol. (Do not use this info to compare white wines.)
Rule of thumb: Try a bottle first before buying in bulk.

    • +7

don't most french reds weigh in at 12~ % ?

most of theom know what they're doing?

    • +7

Boccos dude I was about to launch into a massive reply to explain how that's not always correct and then reminded myself ITS A $2 BOTTLE OF WINE LETS NOT DEBATE THIS

  • Well got the red, if no good will use for cooking, it's cheap enough! Thanks for the deal OP

    • +4

That only matters for the first bottle. After that your palate is pretty well shot. :)

You can get this at BWS for the same price, different packaging (I think it's the same brand) if you don't have a Dan Murphy's nearby, however BWS likely carry far less stock of it so they may be out.

shame there isnt a sav blanc, the aldi ones they had for the same price were/are great!

Thanks heaps for sharing this deal and also to the lovely "ozbargainer" for the free delivery code ( you saved me $48 ) - DMWEL0114 worked a treat - cheers guys ! All I need now is a post for some cheap brown paper bags to pop $2 Chardy into…..lol.

I am a fan of Dan Muprhy's cleanskins, but only the more expensive grey label range. Some of those $8 wines are as good as wine costing twice as much.

I'll give these $2 cheapies a go, but if they're anything like the DM 'white label' range of cleanskins it's basically slightly better than cask wine stuff in a bottle. At $2.66 per litre you might as well buy cask wine instead which will work out cheaper and come in a convenient format.

    • +1

… yeah but a cask doesn't sound as good when you chuck it in the bin with all the other empties :P Buying cask grade wine in cleanskin bottles keeps your neighbours guessing what you're celebrating all time and why they're not invited to your parties… priceless!

      • +3

Except they know that you never have visiting cars parked out front and it's always quiet on your side of the fence… so clearly you're just sitting alone in the dark crying into your bottles of wine in front of the computer every night.

Thanks OP! I'm gonna be effluent on the Australia Day weekend this year!

    • Very effluent!

      • Effluenza?

    • TMI.

  • i dread the butter/cream descriptions in chardy these days.
wouldnt it be cheaper/quicker for them to leave the wood chips out of them ?

yay, cheap sulphur dioxide in copious amounts.

If you measure how good wine is by how much of a headache you get, then this stuff is awesome.

    Thanks OP.

I spent $24 of the $25 I saved on groceries from the g2u.com.au post yesterday.

I still have $1 left for some other bargain.

I'll bring a dollar too then we can go halvies in another bottle, sit in the park and maybe swear at some people?

First time caller long time listener…

Deal is great but the added free delivery is amazing!! Great effort. Bought me a box for the lady.

    Thank you!

    • Luck girl! The expression "now don't say I never buy you nothing" is good for, what, at least 6 months?

Just bought a box of Cabernet Merlot. This wine is no different to a dry red cask that can be purchased for $10 for 5L. It's not bad, but I'd choose the cask every time. It's far cheaper. The 12.5% alcohol content is also a dead giveaway that this is wine normally sold in a box. I guess someone snagged a cheap bottling deal.

  • Got my Chardonnays yesterday, chilled it during the day and opened a bottle last night. Not dry, woody or tart and VERY easy to drink. Obviously not complex but definitely not bad at all and definitely worth the money IMO.

  • Got the reds and they aren't too bad, nothing spectacular but drinkable and great for the price.
