My fist post and posting it from mobile. Seems like a gud deal, 49 AUD for 1 Gz, 512 Mb and 8Gb sony mobile. It is locked to vodafone but am sure it can be unlocked. However, am not sure if this deal is available in all target stores. I bought it from target at southport park, GC, QLD.

The details in this link states the unlocking fee will be $75 (after an online discount of $25) if it's done within first six months and $25 if it is done after six months. Does anyone know any other cheaper option to get the unlock code ?

unlocking is free, just tried to do it here https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv… and was provided with unlocking code after entering the IMEI
Is that the only store in the country offering it for that price, is the big question though.

There was 1 left at Southport Park after I left at 815am. The lady said that the reduced pricing was set by head office… If you can find stock at another store you might get lucky…

Anyone tried to upgrade it to ICS?
Mine came with ICS on it already and free to unlock as well. Got my sola at Target Runaway Bay a few weeks ago (back when it was $169).
At $49 now it's a great phone for the price.
Strange to me the lack if interest in this deal, super cheap and a decent phone.
Comparatively people seem to get excited about aldis crap offerings.

The screen is very sharp and bright. It's running Android 4.0.4 out of the box; there are two updates (about 20MB) available. Another bonus is Office Suite Pro (v6 but free update to v7).
Lots of internal storage but no memory card supplied. There was a free unlock code on the Vodafone site and - bonus - there's no branding on mine either.
Buy one if you can!
