Not sure when this started, nor when it ends but so far I've used it 3 times. First time last year to hire in Cairns, this week to hire in SA and VIC so it is still working.

  • I actually went with ACE car rentals before, their option for no fee excess waiver is not as overbearing as the other car hire companys and they do have the lowest price.

Just my own opionion as an ozbargainer this gets my thumbs up.

Also with the 20% voucher on top, u cant go wrong.

  • Just came back from NZ.

My preferred rental company was A2B and had a great experience.
I found ACE car rental didn't have car I wanted and also cost more.

  • Looking for a hire car out of Tullamarine Airport atm, so very timely post. Downside is that a shuttle needs to pick you up from the airport and drive you 10 min to the hire car lot (as opposed to the 5x big ones who are onsite: http://melbourneairport.com.au/to-from-the-airport/rental-ca…).

    • I get what you're saying but you do pay for the convenience of airport location. Using the 20% I got a Toyota Corolla for $168 for the week (+ $2.52 CC fee). A lot more for an airport based one.

When I booked the Cairns rental, they provided a shuttle (& speedy service). Didn't bother me that it wasn't an airport pick up as they even loaded suitcases into the shuttle for us.

I think Ace belong to Hertz these days but prices are a lot cheaper than through Hertz.

  • I have rented vehicles in Europe, the US, Asia an Australia in the past and i used Ace in December. I would suggest that you read the terms and conditions (in particular reference to insurance) very carefully.

    • What are the concerns with insurance? Do you mean their "top up" to cover excess?

I don't use rental companies insurance, I include it with an annual travel insurance policy - cheaper with just as good coverage, or better.

I've also rented in USA (Florida) much cheaper there! Especially using name your own price on Priceline. Copped a great car in 2010 for $11 a day.

Try www.tripcover.com.au for low cost rental car excess insurance at around $11 a day.

Also covers motor homes and multiple drivers listed on the rental agreement.

Thank you OP. Just saved myself $135. Cancelled my booking (lost 5% deposit) and re-book, but still ahead. :)

    • That's great KingCobra!
      A good saving.
