The cheapest I've seen these go for in Australia is ~$249, so this is a outright steal!

Delivery charges may vary per area, but that was my calculation using Amazon currency converter.

Naturally using economy shipping means you'll be waiting up to 2 months for the headphones, so you can upgrade if need be.

I have no idea how long the deal is for, but I do not expect stock to hold up once OzBargained. :)

Link is for the Pro 990, not 880… .
    ?

      Accidentally the wrong number. :P

How do these compare to the HD650's?

    • +1

it is much cheaper than HD650, isnt it?

    • +1

Fairly different, depends what you're after, try Google for comparisons?

At this price, I would get the DT990's over the HD650's.

    • +1

Roughly equivalent in quality, the 990s are more comfortable though. Compared to the 650 the 990 has more bass and treble. I had to eq down the high end when I had these as they were too bright and piercing.

    • I don't get Beyer's pricing scheme…
DT990 has List Price of $429 but DT990 PRO has list price of $299, so the price saving is no longer on a 10 richter scale (you still save $110 ish compared to local shop)
So are they saying the "PRO" is inferior in some way?

Reading some reviews, I read the same thing .. Treble and Bass can be piercing/too much.

      • The other DT990's are actually the DT990 premium's which are a higher model compared to the DT990 Pro's

      • I'm pretty sure the only difference between pro and premium is the look of the headphone. I think the pro's also have a slightly tighter headband. I had the 600 ohm premium version which was supposed to be the least piercing yet I still found them unbearable at times. I cannot emphasise how comfortable these headphones are though, the main thing I miss about them.

        • quick question guys, since we're talking 250ohm headphones, would using it un-amplified totally defeats the purpose of buying expensive phones in the first place? Would they sound say .. 90% optimal if used without amp, or is it more like 40% ?

I'm currently eyeing ATH-AD900X but thinking of spending more and get a Sennheiser HD600 from Kogan for $309.

        • Would they sound say .. 90% optimal if used without amp, or is it more like 40% ?

More like 90%. My HD650 sounds pretty good from my phone.

Bought these about a year go for $170AU delivered from Amazon Italy. Pretty decent for the price; comfortable, clean wide sound, and moderate bass for open headphones.
Since they're 250ohm, they're best used with an amp even though they do work without it (just quieter of course).

I've been thinking about this or 80Ohms version. But was preferring the 770s. I checked google trends, the 770s, 880s, 990s both released around the same time. But 770s seemed more popular.

My 70Ohms headphones, I have to keep the volume slider on the lowest setting on both my phone and laptop, so I'm assuming they will power 250Ohm ones at an ok volume. I like my music quiet anyways. So I might grab one.

  • Would there be any benefit in these compared to Audio Technica AD900X?

    • These would be a lot heavier on the bass side, despite being open.

  • Been wanting to buy beyerdynamics for a while now, just been choosing between the models and waiting for a price drop like this one.

I feel like I might just take the plunge with these, the only things that make we wary are the recessed mids and the bright treble people talk about in the reviews. On the other hand, it seems extremely comfortable and at this price point I don't see many other options unless someone can recommend some.

    • If I didn't already have the DT770's I'd be all over these. ><

    • Dt880's go as low as $200

  • Just ordered these :) amazon says 14 days to deliver.

    Total $189 aus

Will be interested to see how they perform compared to my old sennheisen hd202.

    Yes..sorry forgot… thanks op :)

    • No worries!

  • Ok I went ahead and ordered these. Thanks OP!

  • how's this compared to Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro?

    • The Custom One Pro is alot more bassy. Crazyyyy bassy when the port is open/closed (Cant remember which one it was, closed im guessing).

    • I'd say this is better if you're after open yet bassy headphones.

The Custom One Pro's have the open/close functionality which gives you more flexibility though, and are probably better for portable use.

Ordered one, Ive been wanting a reasonable pair of headphones for a long time now… I hope these will do :D
Gonna get a Headphone Amp maybe to power them…

  • Whole heartedly recommend these Headphones. Used with an amp they sound amazing and are extremely comfortable being worn for long periods of time.

    • which amp do you recommend?

      • Can vouch for the Objective amp as per http://www.jdslabs.com/item.php?fetchitem=o2full.
Use it with a pair of DT 990 Pro's and to me and everyone I've let have a listen have been pretty impressed.

      • heard good things about both those models. So the computer/av receiver plugs into the back of the desktop amp, then you plug the headphones into the amp? Is it possible to use a phone/ipad as a source for these models or do i need something like the E11/E12 amps

        • As long as phone or tablet has a 3.5mm output jack it should be fine, with the O2 the input is on the front not the back, if that is something you're particularly after.

        • sounds good, so a 3.5mm male to male connector from android phone to amp would suffice? still tossing up b/w desktop or portable amp. would the O2 be used for more things than just a headphones amp, does it include DAC?

  • If anyone is after faster shipping maybe try B&H Photo, they've got the phones for $147.85 and UPS Worldwide Expedited Shipping (4-6 Business days) for $38.26. Link http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/92807-REG/Beyerdynamic….

  • DT990 250ohm Premium for those that are interested. $253.26 USD + $12.97 USD shipping

    Just received my headphones :).
edit: After playing around with the settings on my sound card…My god the sound quality on these headphones are amazing!

  • Received mine today, need an amp…

I have a dedicated Sound card but it still cant power them very well and they are very loud for everyone else :o
and they are not even up loud (for me), oh dear, dont think they are suited to me :(

hmm that sounds negative, they are really good headphones, I forgot about the disturbing of others in the house, ie my missus, doesnt want to hear my games or music, thats the problem.

    • Yeah you would need an amp to get decent volume out of them.

Yes they're open, you knew that when you bought it right? D:

  • Still valid guys.
