  • Hmm.. just read the user reviews on steam saying that there are issues with the steam version of GTA IV clashing with Games for windows Live. Haven't installed it but not sure if these issues have been fixed.

First of all if you have a decent GPU with 2GB's or so of VRAM it will automatically run the game at the lowest resolution and graphics quality and will not let you change this at all in the settings, this is easily fixed with by placing a txt. folder named "-commandline" and inside write "-nomemrestrict -norestriction" then go to the steam folder>steamapps>common>GTA IV and place it in there.

There have been a few issues with this game as it is just a quick port to PC, but overall for $8-/+ it is pretty good.

      • i finished GTA4 on an old machine with dual ATI 256Mb video cards

        ran fine at 1,366 x 768p

did the same with Liberty City with updated 512Mb cards… on any modern machine it should be fine

    • I had to resort to registry hacks when I last attempted (in early 2013) to run my Steam copy of GTA IV on Windows 8 because of Games for Windows Live issues — I'm not sure if things are any better now. Just do a Google search and you'll see countless people having issues with GFWL.

I'd also be worried that Rockstar won't bother supporting GTA IV anymore once GFWL shuts down in July, rendering the game completely unplayable — quite a few developers have announced they will be patching their games from GFWL to Steamworks (or equivalent), but I don't believe Rockstar has announced anything on this front.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the pc version is a substandard port…
