    1366 x 768…. Ouch.

    • +3

I was just about to post that! :-)
On the positive side (IMO), it appears to be matte not gloss.

      • +6

Regardless of any point, honestly, this is the first time I noticed that a branded 32" HD LED TV went under $200.

        • +4

If you just use to watch video/TV. I think it's totally fine
unless you want to connect to a PC/picture viewer…

        • +8

Very good point, and I'd argue there are heaps of people perfectly fine with less resolution and the knock-down price. It is very cheap for a TV and it's easy to take it all for granted but this would've cost you a small fortune not long ago.

    • That's the dealbreaker right there, bummer :(

    • I guess it depends on what it's used for? I need a TV for my PS4 (and PS3 + PS2), I guess technically it should be 1080p however I don't know if I am really going to notice a huge difference, not a $200 difference (vs the cheapest FHD?) if I am standing back more than a couple of metres from the thing. What's the general consensus and how much is the cheapest brand FHD TV?

      • +4

I used to have one of those HD 32", never noticed any difference especially seating 2m away. for $193 and fit your budget, go for it

    • That's fine for my $140 second ps3

  • 3 years ago I bought a Sammy 23" lcd tv for $450 at jb. How prices have dropped.

  • +2

    2-yr Warranty, BUT
it's LED Backlit. The older types which mean much thicker (8.4 cm)

    Dimensions (W x H x D) mm, without Stand 736 x 439 x 84
    Screen Size 32”
    Resolution 1366 x 768
    Brightness 300cd/m²
    Native Refresh Rate 50Hz
    Number of HDMI Inputs 2
    MEPS Rating 6 Stars

    • +3

Direct led backlighting is the better option if you care about the picture quality more than how thin a tv is.

      • Yeah by far. Edge lit is terrible you can really see the washed out sides.

Also 720P on a 32" TV isn't really going to be that noticeable.

  • +1

Anyone considering buying a Toshiba LED TV should turn it off then on again, some of them seem to take an eternity to start up. Can be very annoying if you are used to quick start up.

    • +1

Really that's crap. The Panasonic LED TV that i have starts up in about 3 seconds.

  • +1

is this TV any good if connected to a PC for gaming ?

    • +3

Since it's a branded TV I'd say it should be decent but be aware some Tv's have much higher input lag than ordinary monitors. Some can be as much as 40 millisecondsm which can pose a fairly big disadvantage for multiplayer games.

      http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

Hopefully this model has a "Game mode" which helps remove some of the input delay.

      • thanks for the heads up

      • The specs for this TV seem to indicate a 10 ms response speed. Is that generally considered good enough for gaming?

        • +1

If you read the website I linked to:

From our experience, input lag is never made known by TV makers, who instead prefer to advertise a figure called “response time” which measures the time taken for a pixel to switch from either black to white or grey to grey (depending on which is more flattering). As a result, almost all input lag data available on the internet comes from end users rather than manufacturers.

Input or Display lag is different from response time.

Display or input lag is the delay between the television or monitor receiving a signal and it being displayed on the screen.

The response time refers to how quickly the screen pixels will change values from one color to another. While 10ms is "typical" for budget TV's, a refresh rate of 2ms is standard for many computer monitors, so a response rate of 10ms would be pretty darn slow — you would see a lot of ghosting and motion blurring particularly in action-packed scenes.

    • They also need to support 4:4:4 to properly display the image. Most TVS do but some don't and buying a high end TV doesn't necessarily mean it'll have it.

  • I just bought a bunch of those JB vouchers, I'll have to pass…..

Good to find something I can use with the Amex offer for $30 off when you spend $120 at HN.

Mum could use a new TV.

  • Been tossing up between a few 32" units to mount outside for awhile now.. going to pull the trigger tomorrow on one of the following

As someone mentioned above the reason I am leaning towards the Toshiba is because it is a "brand name" and the 2 year warranty.

If anyone can share there experiences or opinions with my selection I would be more then happy to listen to reason!

Will be using it outside mostly at night for sports etc which will be streamed on a wireless 5.8ghz DSE or Crest AV sender (feel free to suggest here too) from my Foxtel inside under 5 meters away.

Being an outside tv I am not overly fussed on the quality as I have that covered inside!

    Cheers

    • Another one on your list to check out?
      - Hitachi - DH3200 - 32" HD LED TV $199
      http://www.binglee.com.au/hitachi-dh3200-32-hd-led-tv/
      Got usb,
less power consumption Power Wattage: 65W

      • Thanks m2000 even the 39" full HD unit is tempting however the quality loss through the wireless will more then likely render that useless?

      • Nice find. Response time of 5ms means it's good for gamers like myself :)

3 HDMI inputs versus the 2 inputs of the Toshiba is another bonus as well, plus PVR function, not sure if it supports HDMI-CEC (for using the one controller) like the Toshiba does though, if that's important to anyone.

      • However, does it have an inbuilt HD Tuner?

        • Yes it does

        • Oh, awesome. It seems better overall than the Toshiba then.

    • will be streamed on a wireless 5.8ghz DSE or Crest AV sender (feel free to suggest here too) from my Foxtel inside under 5 meters away

After the experience I have had with the wireless AV senders, I personally would suggest against getting one completely if you can avoid it.
I have to admit, I used older ones (2.4ghz I think), and we had interference problems with phones/wifi, and any sort of wall.

From what I have read, the 5.8ghz is a lot better, but at 5m, is there any way you could do without the IR extender ability and just run a short RCA cable through a small gap in a window?

    • What about AWA 32" Full HD for $223.50 at Big W: http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/led-tv/bpnBIG…

      • A couple of reasons why I didn't put that into contention.

If I am buying a "budget panel" I would at least like the bezel to be semi attractive !

No wall mounting on the awa either!

  • +2

    Uses 104w per hour.

A real bargain hunter uses a set-top box on a monitor :) I can watch TV for 28w an hour.

  • This or the Soniq? Will be for playing DVD's 90% of the time, Thanks a lot!

    • The Soniq reportedly has rubbish sound. I bought the Aldi Bauhn and took it back because the sound on that was awful. Replaced it with the Toshiba.Sound on it is pretty good,so you won't have to rush out and buy speakers to make it tolerable. Also,it has a 2 yr warranty. Even tho' it's back up to $235,it's definitely the better TV IMO.

  • Hi

    Can it be wall mounted?

I having trouble to find the review of this TV, any suggestion link?

  • Guys, I would appreciate some feedback on these:

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/ds-31-5-80cm-high-definition…
    http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/lcd-tv/bpnBIG…

The DSE one is kind of brand x and the Big W is, well, close. HN obviously is brand name, but anyone know about quality? Looking to purchase this for my mother, so she isn't THAT picky about picture quality, but I don't want her ending up with something utterly crap.

    • +1

Just a quick look (not sure about the actual picture quality)
I would go for the dse.
Look much better than the "ugly/old type" bigw one (the bezel is way too wide for these day standard…)
it should be lighter, much thinner…

      • Thanks, m2000. I ended up getting the HN one but the DSE looked better on paper, at least to me, but just the grand turned me off. BigW was completely sold out.

  • Anyone know if there is a manual available online for this model? I can't seem to find one. Would like to check out if it has a game mode as that's what I would be using it for. Specs seem to indicate a response time of 10ms…

Otherwise, perhaps this will be better for gaming (but $100 more): http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/plasma-lcd-tvs/tvs-led-lcd-32…

EDIT: Found the manual (for the 24" variant): http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/televisions/led-backlit-…

  • 18cm depth isn't that thin

    • That's with the stand dude. Screen is 8.4cm thin.

  • +1

I got one of these today and definitely a good TV that does the job. It is a bit "thick", but everything else seems solid to me. Definitely worth the price tag.

  • Just got one, looks great so far

Edit, it has a light leak :(

    • What's a light leak?

    • How bad is it?

    • +1

      +1
Seems a common problem huh.. Mine has an entire streak of backlight bleed right down the left-hand side, and an even more severe bleed at the bottom left that shines through with a big white hazy letter L
This is definitely going back for a refund..

32" is really small for a TV. It's smaller than the old 68cm CRT TVs (in terms of picture height). If you are used to a 51cm CRT, this might be an upgrade for you, though.

    • Yeah I agree with this but factoring in that 51 cm used to be the norm, doesn't bother me

      • 51cm wasn't the norm for living rooms, though. Maybe if you took an average of all the TV sizes within a household, it might have been.

    • MrZ good point however I have found in most cases people that are replacing old CRT monitors (68cm or 80cm) it's the Tv Cabinent they a re restricted by so most opt for a 32" LED :)

Brother in law brought 2 of the Toshiba's yesterday for the kids play area etc.

    • +1

It's huge for a bedroom. 22" would be considered small.

  • +1

picked mine from liverpool store after looking for a parking spot for 1/2 hour. took it home to suprise the kids…assembled it…only to find that it is Doa…dead…not, hing……. went back …….parking again ……assembled again…… the replacement works fine……..nice tv for $200… did not notice any leaks….i am sure my 2 & 4 year old children will not complain if there were any…

    • i am sure my 2 & 4 year old children will not complain if there were any…

Cause you'd give them a taste of the back of your hand?

      jks :P

    • Amazed others had problems. The one I got for my mum works fine. Must have been the luck of the draw. She loves the TV and is much bigger than her old Grundig 21" or whatever it is.

  • For those in QLD like myself (no Bing Lee), i was pleasantly surprised to see that shipping of the Hitachi 32" TV was only $10.
I'm leaning towards this one because of the response time. Toshiba 10ms, Hitachi 5ms. I think the Hitachi looks slicker too.

  • +3

I cracked and bought it, build quality is very high, not cheap in any way, good remote, it has some bleeding but no more than you would get from many other brand name TV's, image quality is better than cheapo brands that I have used, turns on with no waiting time

  • Hi all,

Do you know if any of the tv's mentioned here can (with a USB wifi dongle) share movies etc
The Toshiba one looks a great price but so do

    samsung Samsung UA32F4000AMXXY 32"
And the LG 32" HD LED LCD TV - Narrow Bezel 32LN541B

I want it for the bedroom but need it to be able to share movies from the laptop wirelessly

    Thanks

  • Was comparing the Toshiba and the Hitachi ($198 Bing Lee), and decided the Hitachi was the better option; response speed 5ms vs 10ms (pretty slow), 3xHDMI vs 2, 8W speakers vs 7W, more attractive.

However, i went in to The Good Guys to buy a PVR (Topfield TRF-7170 for $339), and saw them advertising a Samsung 32" TV for only $248! (UA32F4000AMXXY)

So decided it was worth the extra $50 for a Samsung screen (the Hitachi was $209 with shipping, so only $40 more really).

I would have posted the deal on OzBarg, but the sale ended today. It's $278 from Harvey's though.

However, i've got a big problem with the TV and the PVR. They won't connect via HDMI! Each device works with other devices, but not with each other. So might be returning the TV afterall. cry :(

    • Funny, my Samsung 50" plasma did the same, had to plug/unplug the HDMI a few times before it would connect

Just FYI Hitachi TV's are just no brand China stuff, same as Medion, DSE, etc.

      • Really? I thought Hitachi was a decent brand, thanks for the heads up. I will have another look at the Toshiba then.

I've tried everything with the Samsung-Topfield HDMI connection. I've probably plugged in an HDMI cable over 50 times. And tried 4 different HDMI cables.

Unless Samsung have some magic solution, it's going back.

My main reason for favouring the Hitachi over the Toshiba, is the difference in response time. Tosh: 10ms Hitachi: 5ms.

Reading this article, response time appears pretty important. "A high response time can completely ruin an otherwise good looking picture"
        http://lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv/lcdtv-responsetime.shtml

However, is Hitachi one of the less trustworthy outfits, fudging response times…?
"a consumer's best option is to go with a Tier 1 manufacturer who traditionally are much more trustworthy about specification integrity"
"Some Korean and Chinese LCD manufacturers are rumored to have response times in excess of 20 or even 25 milliseconds"

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED THE TOSHIBA, what is your opinion of the response time?

        • I have an Xbox One and have been playing BF4, funny thing is there is no bleeding present even on a totally black screen when playing, only when I watch movies

Response time wise I have not noticed any issues, image quality is superb, it seems fast and responsive but I have never noticed any response time issues on TV's I have used so might not be the best judge

At he end of the day it's a $200 TV, just for reliability, warranty you would be best with the Toshiba, I have seen the Hitachi's on display and they look really cheap

    • Try plugging something else into the Samsung hdmi socket to see if it works.

      • I've already tried;
"Each device works with other devices, but not with each other."

No solution from Samsung, only saying that they can't guarantee compatibility with all devices.
        :(

  • Deal Now $235? :(

    • Sh1t. Missed out due to Samsung debacle. Unless they still have $198 in store…

  • Ordered on Boxing Day and they still haven't sent me the email saying I can pick it up. Should've just gone to the store to get it. Oh well…

    • With HN I place an online order…. and call the store pretending to be in the area to see if it ready for collection… works every time

      • Thanks for the advice, I'll give them a call and see what happens.

    • They never called/emailed me, I just called and was told it was ready to pick up

  • Has anyone bought it for $198 in store, since the online price has changed to $235?

  • I have this tv and LOVE it.Beautiful picture, responsive remote,no lag in gaming and excellent sound. You won't have to buy a soundbar or extra speakers to make it sound nice. Recognizes all my external devices(DVD,PS3,Telstra box) via HDMI without any hassles. Price had gone up slightly($225) but as these used to retail for over $400,I'm not complaining. Two year warranty is nice too. Build quality is excellent, with metal in the base for extra support. Easy to assemble. For broke people like me,this is a quality tv with a good warranty at an excellent price point. VERY happy with this telly.
