Free Movie "Elf" - Google Play - U.S. VPN Access Req.

160

Free Christmas movie via Google Play - "Elf". SD version only.

This deal isn't for everyone as you will need:

  • US VPN access (required to "buy" and watch the movie)
  • a credit card not already associated to an AU address
  • 5 minutes

These are the steps I followed and it worked for me.

  • Download and install Tunnel Bear and set it to US.
  • Click buy and load a new credit card with a US post code eg. 90210

Please don't neg vote based on the fact it isn't "available in Australia". I'm watching it quite fine.

Good luck.

Anyone who doesn't agree that this is the greatest Christmas movie ever is just a cotton-headed ninnymuggins.

    • +1

Or is a son of a nutcracker!

      • +3

        not the greatest at all

        try Bad Santa

        • +2

Also Home Alone and Die Hard. Oh the weather outside is frightful..ly hot. I just wish it'd snow in Melbourne. :(

        • +1
        • the original die hard ….

        • The Original and the best Christmas movie is Life of Brian

You're just too young. Rankin Bass classics take that title in this household!

    • I would say it would be top 10.. I remember seeing this movie twice a few years ago so it must be ok if were to watch something twice.

Then again I remember absolutely nothing from the movie right now

I think it'd be cheaper at JB on Boxing Day…

    • +3

      Cheaper than free?

      • It's not free if you're paying for a VPN to get it. And a credit card with an interest rate. I'd rather pick it up for $5 on DVD on Boxing Day.

        • -1

if you want it for free there are many ways you can get it i guess and for an old piece of crap movie i dont think its a big deal

        • Tunnel Bear = Free
Credit Card - Only used for verification, doesn't get charged aka, Free.
Boxing Day Sale ≠ Christmas Day or now.
          $5 ≠ Free!

      • My one and a half hours is worth more than free.

  • -1

… or you could just hit a torrent site.

  • rent or own .. its not clear.

    • Linked source says:

Google is giving you the chance to own it this year free of charge, but for a limited.

  • +6

I have seen this movie. Even at 'free', it's not worth it

  • -2

    Lame old ass movie. Poo

  • Will Ferrell = Lame. Not funny at all.. Unless of course you're into grown men acting like children.

    • +1

I enjoyed watching Elf more than watching the House of Representatives on ABC.

  • Dang! Can't fulfill the third criteria!

  • So do we need to create a new Google account to make this work?

    • No, just add a credit card with a US post code. Technically I'm sure you could remove and re-add an existing card too.

Is faking your location somehow more ethical than downloading it on bittorrent?
I cannot see the point. Isn't this petty fraud? At least pirates are not lying.

    • It's another one of those ozbargain oddities; torrents are verboten but it's no problem at all to encourage the unlocking of (carrier-subsidised) mobile phones despite this being strictly against the terms and conditions of purchase.

    • Is charging twice the price to some customers based on their location ethical?

      • -1

I think whether or not it's "ethical" is beside the point once someone elects to agree with the t&c as a condition of purchase, forming a contract; no one is forced to do this.

        • +1

So you think technicalities, in a document that nobody reads or enforces, override all consideration of ethics?

And "elects to agree" - are you kidding? There is a massive power imbalance. Have you ever tried renegotiating the conditions with a mega-corporation? Nobody even reads them, because there is no point.

Look at a real contract, and the Weinsteins suing newline over Hobbit royalties for example. Hollywood is, I must admit, an ethics-free zone, and lawyers paradise.
