Live Connected Rapid M Plans eg $19.90/Month $650/1.5GB/Unlimited SMS Free LC2LC

840

Hi, Just noticed that Live Connected are upping their prices as of the 1st of Jan 2014. At the current prices their service is definitely a bargain. At the prices as of 1/1/2014 they are definitely NOT a bargain.

I confirmed that if signed up with them before the 1/1/14 you get to keep the 2013 rates for 24 months. Also there's not lock in contract too which is cool.

The 'sweet spot' for me is the Rapid M plan which is $19.90 per month and includes:

  • $650 calls
  • unlimited LC2LC calls
  • unlimited SMS
*1.5GB of data (billed in KB increments and sessions… which is good)

I have got a few family members onto them and we're all happy with them at the 2013 prices. We keep tabs on data/calls/etc with MyLC iPhone app.

The SIM card was express posted the next day to me too, so there should be time to get this deal if it suits someone.

Hope it helps :)

Don't worry. Select the number you want to port and it will not be transferred until you receive the Sim and activate it from their website.
It is only then request for porting is done from your previous provider. Mine took 3 hours approx.

      Hope it helps.
Edit: Can see many have replied before I finished mine :)

i think Telechoice is better, $25 a month, similar deal, but Telstra network. good for reception. but only 3g data speed. also, international call include as well. which is a plus

    • Looks good! Funny how they don't come up in whistleout comparison.

Do you know how good their online portal is? TPG have a crappy online portal to check usage and bills… also they dont capture live calls\data usage (like 2 days delay?!)

      • all resellers have 2 days delay.

For which there is really no good excuse.

      24 month contract price only.

      month to month is $35/month.

I was with LC for 2 years on the 15.99 plan was great. Just changed to TC last month, got slugged with a nice $105 phone bill for going over my cap, not sure how as the sim wasn't in the phone for the pro rata time.

LC got 0-1 bars at my new place and would find myself walking around talking, TC get full 5 bars I pay the $20 plan and its great.

    • +1

Agree. I'd rather be on Telstra
Check out the Kogan deal that you can get - don't have to be a former Kogan customer either.

Exclusive offers for Kogan Mobile customers
Save up to $10 a month on what you’d normally pay for these great value TeleChoice 12-month plans! Plus, we’ll even give you 50% off your first month’s access fee!

So do you take $10 off the plans in this link for the 1st 12 months? Or just the 50% off 1st month is the bonus?

        • +1

$20 per month, but this implies $10 for the first month then!

      • +1

I'm assuming this Telechoice offer will only be under the Telstra 3G network?

        • +1

          yes it's 3G only.

      • +1

How do you sign up to these Telechoice Kogan plans. Can it be done online or do I have to call them?

      • +1

How do you know you don't need to be a former Kogan Customer?

        • +2

When you sign up it asks what network you are currently on.

I signed up and received a call from them, and no questions about whether I was a past Kogan customer.

What if we compare Telstra 3G network vs Optus 4G?
I am totally confused and don't know where to go to from Vodafone 3G. :)

    • +1

One thing to be aware of with Telechoice is they include international calls within your cap spend, but they don't include international SMS/MMS.

Thanks to the OP for posting. I'm sure this will save a lot of people money.

But is it really a "deal" to say this is the current and normal price but it's being jacked up after 1 January?

If I jack up my prices by 50% and give less value come 1 January does this make my current price a deal? I think not.

    • +7

Technically it may not be a "deal" but judging from the response a lot of people find it valuable information, that's probably the important thing rather than hiding it in the forums.

    • +17

792 people have clicked the link in the past hour, so I guess people think it's a good price. As you said it will "save a lot of people money." If that's not a bargain, I'm not sure what is.

Come 1/1/14 this would have been a 'bargain', I think that's the idea of the website.

I'm happy not to post things here if it doesn't comply with your definition of bargain.

Sorry, I was just trying to help people save some money..

  • Is there any reason besides the 1MB billing increments that someone would not choose to go with Vaya over LC?
$1.90/month cheaper, essentially the same inclusions (difference is Vaya2Vaya unlimited vs LC2LC unlimited).

Although I agree this is valuable information, not sure if it is a bargain when you compare it to Vaya. (i.e. even at this price, would you not choose Vaya?)

    • +5

I initially signed up to Vaya and then TIO'd my way out of them as the MB billing is horrible. You can read about it the whirlpool forums, but basically each 'data session' is rounded up to a MB. Apparently on Optus there are a lot of them. So on my phone it showed that I had downloaded 800mb for the month, but my Vaya usage showed up as 1.3gb.

If you want to deal with that to save $1.90/month then go for it.

      • Just asked my friend who's on Vaya Power Plan (the $17.60 one which was Power Plan 22 with 20% off) and he claims he is not getting charged with 1MB increments.
I do remember this debacle and I read about it on Whirlpool, and he signed up during the time the problems were rife.

Surely they would have fixed up by now? and surely if you have the evidence from an app on your phone, or the built-in data manager, then you're fine?

        • +4

It's all on whirlpool. Check it out again.

The rounding up is what does it.

That's why per KB is a selling point over per MB, otherwise it wouldn't matter…

        • I know it's all on Whirlpool. As I said I read it around the time the issue first came to light and during the time in which my friend got Power Plan 22.

I am aware of what the issue is.

And obviously per KB > per MB - just that I am surprised that this issue is still supposedly concurrent.

        • +2

The Vaya rep on Whirlpool has said that it is per MB by design and it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

It's not a technical issue. There's nothing to fix.

      • +1

How long does a data session last for? The posting (way above, about email) implied it was rounded up to 1mb per connection instance. I am constantly using my mobile phone for Internet access - and I usually use about 300-400mb a month. If a "data session" was for "each query", i'd be much higher than 300-400mb. For example, every time my iPhone tells me there's a new email, I open Gmail to read the email (hence, 2 connections). Or, when I use WhatsApp, I may have 20-30 messages in 10 minutes.

I never have issues with my Vaya data at 1.5gb, but I don't stream videos or audio - and I'm a fairly consistent user (including RSS feeds to OzBargain ;) )

  • +2

I am currently chatting with Vaya and LC support and asking them about signing up pre 31st Dec 2013 on a month by month basis and how long i would remain on 2013 prices.

Both are saying the same thing

"first if you have the service activated within this month obviously you'll have the plan and will not roll over even if there's a change in plans "

  • +2

the internet billed in KB is very important. Because of that reason, I will support Lived connect rather than Vaya which is terrible and cost internet data very fast. Maybe I should consider to move from vaya to lived connect

I need about 1gb a month at most, maybe 800mb.
I do however want cheap voicemail deposits, retreival and cheap SMS
I make probably no more than 10 or 15 calls a month for a total time of around…… 3 or 4 hours at most?
I don't care if I am on 3G rather than LTE - but I would like a reliable connection.

  • +5

If the network you're on matters to you, I would also seriously Telechoice's Kogan KM Liberty Leader $25 plan: http://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers

Comparison, Differences of LC vs Telechoice are:
Cost for 12 months: $238.80 vs $287.50 (LC is $50 cheaper)
Both give $650 credit/month (LC marginally better, gives 302 vs 277 standard 2 minute calls)
Both have unlimited SMS (no difference)
10 KB vs 1 KB data increments (LC marginally better, in my experience this difference is so small it makes almost no difference, but avoid 1 MB increment billing, have seen that cause excess fees)
Telstra network vs Optus network (Telechoice significantly better, for me Telstra is MUCH better, I know because I was on Optus network for 13 years, normally get 4-5 bars on Telstra vs 0-2 bars on Optus)
Credit can be used for international calls vs cannot (Telechoice better)
Both 1.5 GB data (no difference)
3G vs 4G (LC significantly better)
Both can call own network free (no difference)
No commitment vs 12 months commitment (LC better)

So it really comes down to whether the network coverage matters most to you, or network speed. If on Optus you get often poor signal, then Telstra network may be better. Despite what the Optus TV ads say, it's not just the percentage of the population covered, it's also the QUALITY of that coverage that matters.

But if your coverage is good, then pick Optus and get 4G, especially if you already have a 4G phone.

If you don't have a 4G phone and don't think you'll get one for another 12 months, then it purely comes down to coverage.

    • +2

Good comparison. But still does not help me to choose… Got 4G phone but the questions is of Telstra 3G would be better than Optus 4G overall. :)

      • That's the dealbreaker for me. I don't mind paying $6 more than LC if it was the Telstra 4G network, but if it's only 3G, I'm going to sign up for LC so long as i can still get 2013 prices…

    • +2

Just to add to this, international SMS/MMS is included with Liveconnected, but not with Telechoice.

  • +1

My vodafone contract goes to february, what do I do?

  • +1

Just ask LC, billed in MB increments not kb

  • +2

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I'm looking for a budget ($18-25 per month) reseller on the Vodafone network with at least 1GB of data (1.5 would be better) and about $500 worth of funny money for calls.

Anyone know of any providers? I like the LC and Vaya plans but the Optus network sucks balls around my area and Vodafone is fantastic since they upgraded it. (plus HD calls and visual voicemail).

  • I joined LC in 2012 , $12 Medium plan , it seems I have been reduced to $500 lc to lc calls ( used to be unlimited ) and $500 calls /text ( used to be $650 ) I don't recall being informed though and only looked now because of this thread , I will have to check my emails.

I am in the process of signing up for the Rapid M plan, however it will only let me select 'month by month' not '24 months' option. I swear it was going to let me 10 minutes ago do 24 months. If I select month by month I'm wondering if it will put me on the new plan in 2014 and not keep me on the current one?

    • +1

I wouldn't sign up for 24 months, just go month by month, they'll let you keep it (in my experience)

  • +1

Do LC and Vaya share provider to provider calls? LC to LC is free, Vaya to Vaya is free, is LC to Vaya free/reduced?

  • +1

So is $20 the cheapest I can get if I want 1-1.5GB of data and a decent amount of text/calls?

I have been on TPG's $10 plan forever (10 because I bundle other services with them). That includes 180 worth of calls which is plenty for me, but a tiny 250MB of data. I just want a bigger data cap without having to fork out $20 per month if its possible.

  • +1

    Hey guys,

Was hoping to get some advice, currently on the LC $10.99 plan from a while back but I'll be hitting 2 years in 4 months. Do you reckon I should jump across to this cheap plan and not risk going to the new plan in 4 months time? What do you reckon the risk is if I don't change? And Will I be able to change in time for the new year?

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    • +1

If you see the first few comments, someone mentions going over their 24 month fixed price period and simply getting the same plan applied but they have to pay more. So, I think you'll be better off keeping your 11$ plan and letting it go to $20 at the end of the 24month period as there might be more quota etc. Double check.

  • +1

So if you go over the credit limit, do you get charged the funny money rates with real money?

    • +1

Yes, but I believe there are smartphone apps available that allow you to keep a close eye on your usage.

      • +1

First world problems: I use an iPhone. What do people usually do in this situation? switch to skype for the rest of the month?

Can anyone state whether LC offer free social networking (FB, Twitter etc) with their plans? I cant find a definitive answer on the net/LC site.

  • +1

    There's a $20 sim card fee!? meh.

Live Connected phone number is very hard to find, and rings and rings without anyone answering. I am yet to speak to a customer service person.
If you happen to overspend your included call value, you phone is instantly barred from making further calls after you receive an SMS you are near your call value spend. Luckily you can still receive calls.

  • -5

Tempted to neg just for OP's "fixed" 24months price comment. There is no long term contract been sign, so there is nothing stopping LC from jacking up the price. It is not realistic to expect 24months of same price when you are on month to month plan and the equivalent/latest offering is more expensive.

  • +2

I don't understand why phone plans are increasing in price, I thought over time they would become cheaper, especially when there are seemingly more competitors now.

    • +4

There are less competitors now. 3 and voda megered. Opt us owns virgin. Voda bought crazy johns a while back. Other MVNO like kogan and red bull are closing. Others are merging (e.g. vaya and LC). Its not a good time for the average mobile consumer. The same thing is happening in the telecom segment on general. Share prices are going up and so are prices for users (or at least not falling like they where)…

  • +2

I spoke with LC about upgrading from my old $7 plan to this newer M plan. Can't believe that they won't let me upgrade from a small plan to a medium…. apparently there is no way to do it. Doesn't make sense to me. So all I can do is cancel the small and buy a new plan and pay for new sim etc. At first they said I would have to pay a $30 cancellation fee as well until I asked them to explain that and then they said I don't have to as its an old plan I would be cancelling.

  • +1

I still have 2 services with them on the old granpa plans. One is on 14.99/month with the $650/1.5gb. The other is $5/month only $100/100mb of allowance, perfect for my mum :)

  • +1

I've been with LC the last 2 months.. Pretty happy with it using my Samsung Galaxy S3 4G. I had issues intially where I had LTE/GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) turned on and when I wasn't in a 4G area I wouldn't get reception at all.. where it was meant to auto-switch over to 3G. I then switched it to WCDMA only and haven't had any issues since.

    Weird question here:

My 14 yr. old daughter had my long-ago, original Voda SIM in her mobile- just so I could call her if she ventured out with friends.

Unfortunately, she got a message saying to recharge by a certain date & didn't remember to tell me. Is the SIM dead? Or can I still port that number over to LC?

    Cheers!

    • +1

      Is the SIM dead?

Call that number. If its dead, there will be a robot saying something along the lines of the number is no long working.

  • +1

    yes, jl-

that's the message— I shall assume we're screwed & lost that number (which is fair).

  • +1

"I confirmed that if signed up with them before the 1/1/14 you get to keep the 2013 rates for 24 months. Also there's not lock in contract too which is cool." • Could you explain the per megabite increments? Is it really that bad, cos the plan sounds pretty awesome at the moment.

  • If I ordered a LC SIM today do you think I would get it delivered by 31/12/13? Is activating the SIM card online enough to secure the 2013 prices? I know there is no guarantee but might be worth it. I am currently with Vaya but don't like their per MB billing.
