In the hunt for the best flight search engine for cheap tickets?

Hi I am looking for a flight search engine that could find me the best flight ticket prices.
As you all know flight prices fluctuate ALOT. Unless you plan months ahead you will end up paying a bomb.

I notice

Most search engine does not include budget airlines like Scoot and Air Asia.

Some of the search engine that I use are

http://www.cheapoair.com
http://www.kayak.com
http://iwantthatflight.com.au

Also is there a place where you can get last minute cheap tickets (e.g. standby tickets)

I like the flexibility of adiaso

    cheapoair has mixed reviews

  • expedia.com.au searches AirAsia (don't think it does Scoot though)

You can even set it up to email you when ticket prices to a desired destination drop below a chosen price point.

    Matrix is pretty good too

  • Please DO NOT USE webjet, I did and it was a huge mistake please read some examples http://www.productreview.com.au/p/webjet.html

    • neil, webjet are truly awful yet the forum promotes them…can this be looked into?

      • We don't endorse or promote any company. That's a wiki compiled by users that list companies that provide flight search.

Ahh ok, just in case anyone reads this who is thinking of getting a flight through them be very careful, they are very hard to get hold of and very poor when you do get through on the phone emails seem to take a minimum of 2 days to get a response.
They are extremely sneaky with the price guarantee if the flights you originally booked and paid for are suddenly not available and you have to be very forthright for them to honour it and remember they have your money and if you want it back it will take weeks, I originally booked at 26hour flight to the UK only for them to change it to a 45 hour flight for the same price.

          .

  • i found another website which is not too bad either
    http://www.cheapflights.com.au/

Yes that's right - but support the little guys like me who are trying to make something for themselves :) :)

  • These might be of interest - have not used them to book but have certainly used them to compare prices - www.wegolo.com or www.momondo.com or www.onetravel.com or https://ifly.sabreexplore.com.au/searchAir.do or www.jetabroad.com.au or

I don't have specific site that I recommended that hasn't been mentioned however I want to provide some advice here. I have read that all these booking sites use cookies against you so that they can track what you are looking for and when you revisit the site it bumps up the price slightly or change the number of remaining rooms/flights etc to create a false sense of urgency to trick you into buying quicker.

Solution is to always visit these sites in Private mode so that all the cookies are cleared when you close the window.

I have also seen evidence with car hire companies of price manipulation based on your IP address so if you are coming from Australia they jack up the price significantly (higher than any other country), you would get a cheaper price if your IP is German, and even cheaper for American IPs. Cheapest was Canadian IPs where they received the lowest price but that might have been a coincidence. So if you can, use a north American proxy with private browsing for best results and good luck.

    Edit, grammar, wording

    • Excellent post lancedefrance I had forgotten about the cookie tracking they use and I fully agree with you on using private mode for the best repeated prices :)

      .

    • So if you can, use a north American proxy

Are there any specifically you would recommend?

    • Thank you very much for this lancedefrance. I always suspected this was the case and will do what you suggested. Very helpful information indeed.
