  Alternative to save $$$:

  • PS3 PlayStation 3 12GB Red Console $168 - Expired but I'm sure you'll find a similar price around.
  • Last of Us PS3 - $30.50 Delivered
  • 2m HDMI - $2.99
  • 500GB Laptop Hard Drive - Approx $75 + Caddy and upgrade the console with these instructions.

  TOTAL = $276.49

    The bargains are strong with this one. For the extra $23 though it's worth it to avoid the hassle.

      Yeah but if you were DIYing it, you would get a 1TB drive instead of 500GB.

      The Target deal with NFS was better I thought.
      $199 for a 12GB with NFS rivals. Add another $80-$90 (umart) for a 1TB drive and $11 for a caddy.
      To really be worth it you have to want the game. TLOU is supposed to be an excellent game which doesn't make this a bad deal, but you can probably do better.
      I would hold off a few more weeks and see what we get over Christmas and into the new year.

        TLOU is a R 18+ rated game, leaving room to ponder on what age people are who actually end up playing the game seeing as this is a bundle.

    Sure, you could save about $20 doing that, but all of the options you list cost you time — time spent hunting down a 12GB PS3 for $168 or less (are there any non-expired deals at that price point?), time waiting for The Last of Us from Play-Asia to get delivered (typically at least 2 weeks), time waiting for the caddy to get delivered from China (a few weeks), time to install the drive. :)

  I think you will find better prices in the coming weeks. DS had this minus HDMI cable + GTA V for $319 just last week

  I don't have much experience with consoles, but was thinking of getting a 12gb one to bash some games out - Mainly probably Fifa, diablo and GTA. Will I need to tag on a bigger hard drive?

    GTA V itself will take 8-9gb. definitely not enough

    12GB is not enough mate. You dont even get to use the full 12GB, system stuff take up a few. 12GB is not even enough on a tablet or a phone so it is definitely not enough on a PS3.

    I am also thinking of getting the 12gb model, either second hand or new if the prices hit $150 again around xmas time. I only want to play ni no kuni and the last of us.

    spending extra money on a 500gb console when it will get so little use doesn't make much sense to me.

    I really wish they had made it a slightly bigger drive, 16gb or even 32gb would have been perfect.
