40

There are many popular movies currently on sale in the iTunes Store, including classic movies like

  • The Godfather
  • Schindler's List
  • The Shawshank Redemption

and more recent releases, including

  • Inglourious Basterds
  • Margin Call
  • The Ides of March

and many others.

Overall, if you buy movies in iTunes, it is a very decent sale that is worth looking at.

  • So once you buy the movies, any way to play these on a HD TV

    • Using Apple TV.

    • You can plug your Mac into the TV, or plug your iphone/ipad into the tv directly with an adapter. :) The adapters are worth it, i carry mine with me always.

  • Shame that the DVD's are probably the same money

    • Would the movie's listed above seriously still cost that much to purchase on DVD?

    That is EXPENSIVE !

    • HD is cheap but yeah, SD prob not that cheap. Although Godfather trilogy isn't that cheap at JB Hifi currently, still over $12 a movie.

With 'buy one get one free' iTunes gift cards from HN - this is a very good price.

  • You don't get a DRM free file that you can play from a portable HDD, do you?

Seems like these are mostly old enough that you could buy the Blu-ray cheaper online…

Not only this but HD does not always equal HD. On a large enough screen, iTunes HD movies are significantly inferior to their Blu-ray counterparts.

      • I doubt that it is 'significantly inferior':

Thanks for the link. It made interesting reading and I didn't know they had improved that much. I guess it all depends on how big your screen is, but for a couple of bucks more or less on special, I still think physical media beats iTunes.

Remember that if you get a big discount (eg. 2-for-1) on your itunes cards that the prices are effectively a lot lower - as low as half this.
However even at half the price I don't know if it is a good deal. Perhaps, perhaps not.

    • Lord of The Rings in HD for 7.90 (assuming you got a buy-two-get-one iTunes card deal like at the recent Good Guys promo)? I'd say that's pretty good isn't it?
