Would you guys use this to find bargains?

Came across this website for an idea/application in development: http://alphatise.com/

Basically, it's an app that allows consumers to add any product to their 'wishlist' along with a price they would be willing to pay. E.g. You want a TV but for $400 less than RRP.

Sellers of the item can then see how many people would be willing to buy given a certain price (e.g. real time economic data). E.g. 15 willing at $1500, 30 willing at $1400, 90 willing at $1300. If they decide that there are enough people willing to buy at a lesser price, you'll get your bargain.

If you're not following, check the video from the site. Interested to see if people would actually use it.

There already is a platform like this, called MassDrop. It's based in the USA but ships worldwide. They do a very wide range of products, but they're mostly gadgets and other geeky stuff.

The more people commit to buy, the lower the price gets.

    • Hey thanks for this scrimshaw!

  • Yeah, I might participate for some stuff.

  • I feel like it benefits the retailer more than the consumer. You are giving away information on the highest possible price you are willing to pay. There isn't any incentive for the retailer to offer any cheaper than that. If they don't know how much you are willing to pay they may offer it much cheaper unnecessarily.

    • Fair point - which is why I would only put in the price at which it would be too good to refuse and I would definitely be a buyer.

  • My thoughts: The issue for the retailer would be that 500 people willing to buy would become 200ish if you approved it.
