  • This really is a bargain and the only way you can get the same effect for cheaper is to make it yourself. Make sure you put the cap back on the cardtridges between use so it doesn't just evapourate. They seem to last much longer that way.

Price in title please OP - $14.99 plus freight????????

While this is somewhat of a relative bargain, ultimately you can save yourself a ton of money with CCRRefills.com, also available through eBay.

Ships from Canada for $2.50, really nice guy that is super helpful. I purchased a 5 pack ages ago (15 refills).
You simply buy a 500ml bottle of Mentholated Spirits for about $5 from your local supermarket, empty a pack of the CCR Refill into it and it gives you 3 cartridge refills.
The only hassle is cleaning it out. Also the Metho mix has a higher alcohol content that the original Braun, so it can evaporate quicker if you don’t put the cap back on after use.

He doesn’t offer a 4 year extended warranty on your refills for $99.95 like David Jones does, so take that into consideration. I am sure that $99.95 is also a bargain on a product like this.

    • They wouldn't collect so its shipping

    • You can get 100% Isopropyl Alcohol for around that price on eBay, why use metho?

      • The original contents from Braun is Denatured alcohol which is also known as Methylated spirit, I just used metho as a term that everyone knows instead of Denatured alcohol.

See more stuff about in another reply below.

  • Pretty good. These hardly ever go on sale (if at all).

  • Further 20% off for orders over $100 too

  • They can be used for the Braun Series 5 550cc. Correct?

  • If you add 2 of these to your cart the price shows up as $23.98. Looks like its giving you an extra 20% off and you can get free shipping (orders over $50)

    • Didn't work for me. I also noticed that if I try adding more than 3 it says "Out of stock".

      • Looks like they have fixed it, showing up as $29.98 now.

  • Can you get this at the store?

    • Yep, I managed to get it in-store.

Bulk iso-propanol (iso-propyl alcohol) is cheaper. 70% strength is a pretty good match with the original. I buy the 100% strength from Electronics Stores and dilute that. Has that distinctive medical smell. If you like you can add a squirt of lemon.

  • I buy 5L container of 70% isotol for refills and have been saving heaps. Not hard to do.

    • Isotol?
Do you mean isopropyl alcohol? If so the problem with that is there is no lubricating agent. So it it will clean well, but then dissipate completely and leave no lubrication behind, not a good thing.
Look at the stuff in my post above, you add it to alcohol to act as a lubricant and ads a nice sent.

Again, if isopropyl alcohol, where do you get 5L at a good price. Everywhere I looked was far more than Metho.

      • sorry I was replying from my mobile.

I meant to say Isopropanol (rubbing alcohol). Rubbing alcohol is a cleaner, not a lubricant agent. I dont think it needs lubricating agent. It's your skin/facial hair that deposits oily substance on the shaver blade so what's needed is a cleaner.

If you read the ingredients on the Braun Container, it contains isopropanol, perfume, and citrus flavour. It doesn't contain lubricating agent.

100% rubbing alcohol will dissipate very quickly hence you need to dilute it with distilled water. 70% rubbing alcohol is better suited and more importantly, it works. There are tonnes on this topic if you google/youtube it.

I paid 5L of 70% isopropanol for $100. The Braun cleaner has some smart electronic sensors. It does not like my solution out of the box. The trick is to add a few drops of lemon juice into the solution and wola the sensor is happy.

Dont use metho. Metho is not the same as isopropanol and I certainly wouldn't want methol residue on my face, plus I doubt that it works.

        • My container says it Contains Denatured alcohol (also known as Methylated spirit), Perfume, Limonen (nice smelling solvent), Citral (for smell) & Cationic Tenside. Cationic Tenside is to reduce surface tension.
Metho is given a small additive to create a bad smell and taste to prevent people from drinking it.
There is no residue to Metho, there is some crap they used to have in the US that could leave behind a white residue. This is old crap, and not something that was ever an issue in Aus.

So I am using the same base ingredient, Metho, also known as Denatured alcohol, with an additive to provide a nice smell, and a lubricant to help the parts last longer.
So I have chosen Metho as it is half the price of isopropyl alcohol, and more importantly, the exact same base fluid in the original container from Braun.

If you read the package it will also say
"At the simple touch of a button your shaver is hygienically cleaned, charged and lubricated for your maximum convenience."

Lubrication is vitally important, you have metal parts moving at high speeds creating a great deal of friction. If you do not lubricate these parts, they will wear out far quicker than they should.
