  • I'd question the motherboard, you can overclock your CPU on a h87 and unless you have a 1440p monitor you won't need to crossfire/sli to play those games on ultra, GPU seems cheap though AMD cards are optimised for BF4, you may want to look at a 280x, hd7970 or 290 (wait for aftermarket coolers)

You don't really need to OC the CPU for gaming, if you go with the i5 4670 and a b85 mobo you can put these savings into a more powerful card (though a 280x can run BF4 on ultra @ 1080p with around 70fps).

You might want to look into a Xeon 1230 v3, basically an i7 without onboard graphics and has "turbo boost" can't tell you too much about it.

wireless network adapter? get a $20 one lol

  • yeah mate i think it's looking good. id probably go 16gb ram if you are doingheavnig gaming, but 8gb should be fine and you can always upgrade if you need. apparently 2 rams are better than 1? for dual channel? or something.

any $20 wireless adapter will do as well. not much difference in them at all

  • Get a better PSU, CX is bottom end. Swap the card out for a 280X, and I'd double the RAM. I'd also second an H87 and 4670 or 4770 CPU. $180 mobo is ridiculous. And no, you can't OC on H87, Intel disabled that.

    1. The gpu is being imported from amazon.
    2. I won't just be playing battlefield 4 i was just too lazy to list all of them
    3. I'm getting an unlocked cpu just for shits and benchmarks. I don't mind paying a bit more for it.
  • could use some aftermarket CPU cooling, even if your only planning to play around with the K

otherwise just dont do the K at all

  • btw
    Memory: 8GB Corsair Vengeance-$80
    from where?

  • +2

I wouldn't listen to the people telling you to double your RAM.
8gb is more than enough for your games (current gen) at this stage. If you are doing some intensive video/image manipulation or modelling applications like cad then you'll need 16+ or you might start feeling the lag.
Utilise dual channel by getting 2x4gb while also giving you best performace/upgrade ability. Also make sure you get a 64bit OS otherwise your memory will be capped at 4gb max regardless.

As for the CX PSU, it's totally fine and will serve your build perfect with some left over.
Although it's not top tier, it's still a Corsair and it's still got a dedicated 12v rail.
If you were really nit picking with your build, spend a little bit more and get an 80plus certified PSU that's modular. I got a HX650 for my build (currently $155 at PCCG) cause it is modular and will help with cable routing as well as the aesthetics if you decide to get a modded acrylic window panel for your HAF.

Your GPU is fine, contrary to what everyone is saying. Although 280x (currently $369 PCCG Preorder) would be what i'd go for seeing as you play BF4 plus it's newer and matches the 770 blow for blow almost. Or better yet wait for 3rd party 290x to come out.

Change the Mobo and CPU. If you're not overclocking, i look at it as a waste to spend extra for the unlocked K.
If you are overclocking, add in a cooler. CM Evo 212's are still at a very competitive price and move a lot of air.

Network adapter? If you really want to game on a connection as stable as your internet can provide, use an ethernet connection + good router.
If you really can't, then get a good N or N+ rated wireless PCI or PCIe card. There is a difference in the ratings!
Make sure you pair that with a good router, as you could be bottle necking your connection speed if it is rated below your card.

    TL;DR

    • RAM 8gb is fine. 2x4gb sticks for dual channel + 64bit OS.
    • PSU absolutely fine.
    • GPU is fine. Prefer other cards as follows: 1. 290x 2. 280x 3. 770
    • Try for Ethernet, if not N or N+ PCI/PCIe card + router.
    • Less money on Mobo+CPU, more money on GPU or Network or SSD or faster clocked RAM. In that order.
    • I do actually have an aftermarket cooler bought already just forgot to mention it (cm evo 212). I'd rather not get an amd gpu as most of my games are nvidia biased.

      • make sure to clean that base properly and a good dusting between the fins with some compressed air

        • Don't overdo the thermal paste either!!

      • Except for Battlefield 4 ;)

      • my games are nvidia biased.

I don't even know what you think this means. Perhaps that they have an Nvidia ad at the start? Clearly the marketting works.
