  • Wow, anonymous email… Interesting, I guess I need to change all my email to their domain? Furthermore the recipient should be able to decrypt our email through PGP too?

If you want encrypted email, surely it would be easier to save your email as a text file, encrypt it uzing ZIP (or winzip or pkzip or 7-zip or any of the other archiving programs), then send the encrypted file as an attachment?

Make sure your version of ZIP supports AES128 encryption (most recent versions do), and make sure you select AES128 as the encryption method. ZIP has its own encryption algorithm too, and has had it since before AES was created, but the native encrption method is VERY easy to crack.

In the text of the email (the non-encrypted part), you can tell the recipient why you are sending an encrypted email, in case they aren't expecting one from you. You could also send them hints about the password, like "John's mobile number, followed by Mary's mobile number, with no gap in between". Of course describing the password is hugely insecure, but it's likely to defeat most hackers.

And that's easier how , than pressing send.
Now heres a real good idea, you could use Torguards free email service, much more of a bargain, and much safer. http://torguard.net/anonymous-email.php

I think Russ means it is a good free option. It's hard to disagree with that.

      • Torguard's free email service has a 10 megabyte mailbox limit. Not 10 megabytes per email, but 10 megabytes for ALL of your email. That relegates it to "second email provider" status at best.

Also, it appears that both sender and receiver have to have Torguard software installed, which is a huge limitation. Using AES through a ZIP archive is supported in most operating systems WITHOUT installing anything extra, and it's handled automatically when you open the archive.

Encrypting through ZIP is also totally free, and has no limitations on the size of whatever you are encrypting.

  • My free CyberGhost vpn has expired recently and was wondering if Anounymous VPN for $29 is a good deal?

  • Just purchased the bundle, seems good for the price, but a little concerned when I had my password included in the confirmation email in plain text.

    • That seems dumb. Surely they could have asked you for a password when you signed up, through a secure webpage? Or did they do that and THEN send it to you in plaintext?

      • Yep they sent me the password I entered during signup.

      • It doesn't matter - if they are even able to send you your password in plain text, then it's not being encrypted properly!

        • That's not correct.

I don't know if it's encrypted or not (why aren't you using a unique password anyway…) however it's VERY easy to send a user welcome email with their user+pass while having the password actually encrypted.

          Basically
          - Grab post
          - Send welcome email, etc etc
          - Store new user
          - Redirect to success page

You have access to their entered details whilst still storing the password securely.

        • But your password now isn't SECURE, which is the whole point of using encrypted email. Your password has just passed through maybe 20 computers or more in plaintext, it's not guaranteed secret anymore. If you live under a repressive government, then there's a good chance that (a) your government now knows your password, and (b) you have been flagged as a likely dissident.

I recommend you get online and change your password immediately, and hopefully they won't send the new password back in an email.

  • Just purchased.
