Free Month of PS Plus with Purchase of a PlayStation Vita

200

If you link your new Vita to PSN from now until December 31, you will get a voucher for a one month subscription to PlayStation Plus. This stacks onto current subscriptions so it might be good for those getting a PS4 with the free month (though I'm not exactly sure free months stacks the same way, I'm sure you can just redeem the voucher afterwards anyway).

Combine it with either of these deals:

And this is pretty good!

You also get a chance to win a PS4 by doing this.

Note that you can also grab all the PS3/PS4 free games without having the console by using the web store. Just add it to your download list and whenever you decide to buy the console, you can download it so long as you're subscribed to PS Plus still.

    • There's been mixed reports as to whether you'll be able to do this for free PS4 games. The EU community blog representative said that you won't be able to get the free PS4 games without the console itself. Not sure whether this is true or not.

        Mixed reports :D

One representative saying it's not possible VS. thousands of PS+ members saying they were able to successfully add PS4 games to their download queue without owning a PS4.

As long as you don't let your PS+ membership lapse there shouldn't be any problem.

        • How much is one months of ps+ subscription

        • That's good to hear… so without a PS4, do you 'buy' the free PS4 games from store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com?

        • $10 for 1 month, but you can sometimes get a free 30day trial from Playstation Facebook promotions.

You can always get a free 14 day trial if you have not subscribed already

  • Has anyone actually got a voucher emailed to them? I got my vita yesterday arvo (within the promotion period) and I haven't received a code for the free PS Plus…

    • I registered mine on the 15th and haven't either.

      • Registered yesterday afternoon and no e-mail also.

        • how do I register? Just got my Vita…

        • Did any of you guys get your code yet?

        • Nope. The entire promotion was either a lie or they screwed it up.

Does US PS+ have this similar promotion?

Unfortunately it seems that unlinking your account and relinking your account to your PS Vita does nothing. Was worth a try though ;)

  • I know that you can't play the free games once your subscription ends, but how does the Vita/PS3/PS4 know you are no longer subscribed, if you keep it offline?

Does it require 'calling home' to check if your membership is still valid?

    • Free content as part of the PS+ has an expiration date stored with the game. You can view the details on the PS3 by pressing triangle->Information on the game. For example I have Red Dead Redemption:

      Buyer: CyberGenesys
      Starts: 24/12/2012 14:58
      Expires: 7/6/2014 20:33
      Remaining Time: 201 days

The expires date is equal to the expiration date of my PS+ subscription and will be updated when I renew my subscription.

      • Can you cheat the system by adjusting the PS3 clock?

When you renew it automatically updates, or do you have to trigger the update somehow?

        • +1

Yeah I'm sure you can cheat a multi-billion dollar multinational out of money by changing the clock

        • You can cheat a lot of software companies by changing the clock (including Microsoft who is richer than Sony by an order of magnitude). Having multiple billion dollars is irrelevant. They aren't spending multiple billions of dollars on their PS+ so that extra cash isn't going to make a difference. If anything it just makes every part of them harder to manage.

If they have a date of expiry, and your console is offline, they've got no way of knowing the true date without calling home. Unless it's DRM'd, do share their tricks with me.

Believe it or not, rich multinational companies do make mistakes, and being rich doesn't make you perfect. Remember when the PSN got hacked last year?

        • I believe it has to call home periodically. A few times if I've tried to launch a game that I haven't played in a while (a couple of weeks) whilst offline and received a generic "this content has expired" error. To get around this I need to launch the game while online and then it will be good for another couple of weeks of offline play.

        • All fair points, but do you honestly think that's not the very first thing raised in the first meeting about PS+?

"Hey, what happens if someone changes the clock? Won't they get to keep the games forever?"

        • +1

That sounds plausible, but remember this would be the DRM Microsoft planned for Xbox 1. Sony put together an anti DRM stance saying any offline game whether downloaded or on disc will not require an internet connection, and it sounds like this contradicts their claims. If you have 6 months left on your PS+ subscription and it says the game expires in 6 months but it still needs to call home before 6 months, that's just a DRM, which is fine by me, but not consistent with the image they're trying to put out.
