iMac or PC?

Hi all,

Im thinking of buying a desktop computer, just for everyday purposes like uni work etc. but I have no idea which to get, does anyone know if the iMacs have wifi so I don't have to run the Internet cord across the room?
Or does anyone know any good bargins out there for a simple desktop pc, that has wifi ?

I will probably get negged for this but I think you (and many others) should do a bit more research before asking for help on forums.

It is easy enough to go to the iMac specs on Apple's website and have a look. I am happy to help but not to do your homework for you.

I completely agree on the subject of the iMac's WiFi. I find the 'Find Me a Bargain' section to be a bit of a joke for the same reason, generally.

Build your own pc. It's cheaper and better.

Just note the WiFi you want can be added to any PC very easily and cheaply

  • Buy it according to your needs, gather all your expectations on a piece of paper and funnel the requirements through. For example need portability more? Need power? You have an iPhone or android so that the blue tooth
communication between all your gadgets stays uninterrupted.
    Hope that helps.

All desktops can have Wifi added easily and cheaply. You just buy a USB Wifi dongle (costs less than $10) and it's plug and play.

Some factors you want to consider:

    1. Total budget (don't forget to also factor in costs of software— MS office 365 or Office 2013 will set you back a $100 or so, depending on which product you choose.) A 21.5" Mac starts from $1400 onwards, but a PC can be as cheap as $500, and it'll still might fulfill your needs.

    2. The type of software you'll be running. Some units or courses require you to run specialized software, that may only work on Windows.

    3. Which desktop environment you're more comfortable with.

Desktop deals are posted every week — CPL in particular posts one every Thursday morning.

  • For everyday uni work, get a cheap PC build. Totally agree with the post above.

  • PC better value, you can either suggest a budget and get ppl to help you decide or wait for a good deal on ozbargain and all you'll need is a wifi card or even wifi via USB.
