380

White - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Logitech_Ultimate_Ea…

Previous deal at $137 - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120150

Seems like a pretty good price for these headphones, cheapest I've seen was the last deal for $137, reviews seem pretty good too.

Deal might be available instore too, but my local goodguys had no stock.

  • Good price. I've been spending all day looking for a new pair of headphones after my Creative Aurvana Live's broke and these always stood out, just dunno how they'd compare.

    • +2

How did they break, was it the flimsy hinge connecting the band to the cup?

By the way, I bought the Logitech UE 9000 to replace my Creative Aurvana Lives and I love them, they're basically the same as the 6000 but also have bluetooh which was important for me, good upgrade from the CAL's especially if you appreciate stronger bass which is probably the case coming from the CAL's.

      • +1

Nah, the left side just stopped working… Then I broke the flimsy hinge taking it apart :P

        • +1

lol, yeah once i realised the pads just pull off to expose the screws it was ok, i actually managed to put a woodscrew from inside the cup up into the band directly, benefit was that it could still rotate.

Might be worth recabling, I had to solder the wire back on after i knocked the driver off the desk with nothing supporting it but the wiring itself, not too difficult, maybe it's what's wrong with yours.

http://au.creative.com/p/headphones-headsets/aurvana-live still for sale and especially good value for two at $120 but since you can't use two at the same time it's definitely worth upgrading to the UE!

    • How long did you have the Live?

Mine have been working well for 3 years so far :)

      • Would have been 2 years next month :)

  • How does it compare to ATH M50 by audio technica?

    • -1

I've tried the UE 6000s and UE 9000s @DSE, I'm sure I'll get slapped by Audiophiles here but meh.
They're actually quite decent (The UE9000s), I wouldn't get the UE6000s, though, they're slightly boomy.

      • +1

You probably left noise cancelling on, that increases the bass.

        • No clue - whatever was on the logitech stand in DSE, that's how I stand by them.
And I don't mean the boomy bit in a bad way, they're just a slightly stronger, and a very small hint of distortion from that emphasis of bass. Perhaps you're right, but not my problem, everything on the internet - take it with a grain of salt.
          Anyway, neg away :)
          Back to my Amperiors.

    • I've never known Logitech to make good audio gear. I haven't heard these but if i were to make a biased comment with no proper evidence I'd say the M50s would suit you better if you like accurate reproduction. A lot of people love Logitech speakers and headphones because of the bass heavy sound. Each to their own. Chasing accurate sound reproduction is an expensive exercise so if you like the way Logitech gear sounds then you are very lucky.

      • +1

Logitech bought UE though. UE has a good reputation.

        • -2

Maybe better than Logitech's rep but they aren't very high in my books at all.

        • The fact that Logitech bought them makes me hesitate though. I've only had UE stuff that was pre-Logitech and it's great, but I'm sure everything's been changed now.

        • +1

The higher end consumer products and the Custom In-Ear monitors have a very good reputation.

        • +1

As someone who owns both (UE and ATH-M50) I'd say I prefer the sound of my UE-900 over my ATH-M50. That said, it is 2x the price (if not more) so I'd expect that.

      • Inb4 people go and put UE = Jerry Harvey, therefore unbeatable.
That was 6 years ago people!

    • According to my Google search, they're not very different.

    • Not comparable - UEs feature noise cancellation.

  • Amazing headphones. Sound exactly the same as the UE9000s.

    • Sound exactly the same as the UE9000s.

I wouldn't say exactly the same.. the UE9000s are a bit clearer and the bass is less boomy (not to say the UE6000s are bad in any way)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IZU… someone who knows what they're talking about

"Both the UE6000 and UE9000 are cut from the same cloth, and sound quality differences are vanishingly small…so small, that the difference between the two pair I had could easily be chalked up to the slight differences in capsule geometry due to the change in electronics and battery. It did seem like the UE6000 was slightly cleaner sounding than the UE9000, however."

        • someone who knows what they're talking about

I'm so sorry I offended you! I'm not really sure I can grab any info out of the video you posted as your source of your expertise and knowledge!: Homemade Taco Bell (Creating Edible Things With Catie ep 5) The girl in that video seems to know a lot about Tacos though!

In response to your comment (after immortalizing your Taco video), pretty sure you're referring to Tyll from Innerfidelity, my personal opinion of him: he is very lenient on his reviews, headphones sound, he's too optimistic with all the headphones he uses, almost never mentions the negatives of any headphones.
This guy: UrAvgConsumer is a bit more fair with his reviews, doesn't just focus on the positives, points out the negatives as well
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yatEVQto9g
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PLePC1EjCI
I own Sennheiser Amperiors and Audio-Technica ATH-M50s. Despite Tyll's glowing review of the Amperiors, I would not spend $350 on them. I only got them because StoreDJ had a nice price on them ($186, available atm for $219), and I still prefer my $65 Sennheiser HD228s (with foam removed/"astroid" mod), sounds a lot like the Amperiors, more open after the foam mod, but annoys the crap out of everyone around me (they leak sound), and that's when I use my Amperiors instead.
This is a bit off-topic but to support my argument about Tyll being lenient, the Senn Amperiors, are sibiliant at high volumes, and extremely aggressive (bass SLAMS into your eardrums, not in a comfortable way, ATH-M50 does not do this). You can go google "Amperior" and "Sibilant", and find other people also agree (I am not the first), what that means is the highs will have a small hiss. These aren't found on the HD228s or the ATH-M50s. I would also like to point out Tyll does not point out the M50s become very sweaty from prolonged use (because he didn't have that issue and neglected to mention that in his written review), they also have a deathclamp out of the box. As someone who owns a few audio products and have based my decision upon Tyll's reviews, I feel it needs to be said Tyll is very lenient and you should take heed when looking to him as your sole source of information.

There are gems and lemons everywhere, you just have to find the ones you like. [Grado, Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica, Bang & Olufsen, Sol Republic]
Everyone has a different opinion and preferred sound signature, for me, it's Sennheiser.
I'll say this though: both the UE6000s and UE9000s are very fun sounding, whether it's with or without noise-cancelling. Not as head-shaking as Beats but much more balanced overall.

General advice for the rest of readers interested in UE6000/UE9000, go to DSE (I know TopRyde, NSW has a stand there) and demo the product for yourself(maybe they'll be on special, or willing to pricematch TGG), no other person's reviews on the internet can really replicate trying them yourself physically

          Hey mate,

Generally agree with your comments. However, UrAvgConsumer is a bit of an ignorant tool (IMHO):
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6di_OsUtOc

Consequently his opinions aren't really worth much.

        • +2

Consequently his opinions aren't really worth much.

True, he doesn't have a musical background, nor does Tyll (he fixed electron microscopes, see his reddit AMA, he also doesn't claim to be one either). As ignorant as the UrAvgConsumer, he still covers some negatives. The point being, you can't always rely on one set of ears, one mind, one reviewer.

Another very good unbiased youtube channel that reviews headphones, points out both the pros and cons of the product (actually an OzBargain Member! www.ozbargain.com.au/user/49307) is lachlanlikesathing, http://www.youtube.com/user/lachlanlikesathing
He hasn't reviewed the 9000s or 6000s though.

  • +3

I'm liking mine, but they are far from perfect.

    Good cans for bassheads.

Only had them a few days, will be getting the difference refunded.

There is a hiss / noise floor which is audible when music is not playing (between tracks, etc). The noise cancelling only works in the lower few octaves. The bass on these is awesome (yes I am a basshead). Noise isolation is pretty good, vert comfortable, for $99, a great buy.

The cheapest these have been sold in the us is $89 I believe, so this is a very good deal.

  • Cheers OP, got one and I'll leave an eStoreReview, get the postage back and profit $1 ;)

  • +1

I price matched at DS as it wasn't below their cost price ;0)

  • Anyone have experience with Logitech UE 4000? its for 49 at good guys, thinking of grabbing it, any thoughts?

    • +2

      a bit muddy but comfortable.

      • Ahh I see, thanks, sounds alrite, I think I will pull the trigger, GG have some other headsets on sale too, a good sale this one.

  • Thanks for the deal, they're sounding pretty good right now! :)

  • Bought one and I'm loving it!!! listened to Adele live acoustic.. Feels like im next to her.. trying to be exaggerate alil.. lol.. but nonetheless, its an awesome headphone

  • officeworks dont sell them?

  • dammit! i caved!

what i really want is the UE9000 for the bluetooth, but i bought a pair anyway.

hopefully someone comes out with a deal on the UE9000. they were $200 half price in the US recently, direct from logitech…hopefully we get a similar deal at some stage!

  • The differnce between listening to these on an android (Note 2, old nexus 7 and S4) and ios device (ipod and 4S) is so huge. Mainly just the actual volume. They are 2 soft on my android devices but sound amazing on idevices. Kind of disappointing. Still very nice quality though and they so sound great on my PC and through my astro mix amp 2013

    • +1

I've read that in passive mode (with noise cancellation switched off), you should amp them (while in active mod, an amp is not necessary).

I'm guessing the amp in your ipod/iphone is more powerful than your Android gear.

I'd recommend grabbing a cheap fiio amp. (I have e17 dac/amp, but e5/e6 should do.)

      • Thanks for the advice. I heard about these fiio amps. Ill try one out

  • NC Button on OMG BASS

    • Beats competitor? XD

  • Went out and price matched at Dick Smith today and got some. So far I think they're pretty good. My only complaint would be is that when NC is off the sound isn't… I dunno, powerful enough, whereas when NC is on, it's too powerful. A bit more bass than I like. EQ should fix it though. They're sturdy and seem to be well built, they're comfortable, and they seem like a decent enough step up from my CAL!'s. I'd say they're only really worth $100 though, definitely not $200 or whatever RRP is. As said above they definitely need amping in passive mode.

    • DS (bourke st, melb) wouldn't pricematch for me! i should have tried a different one…

was too lazy to drive out to the good guys, so ended up paying the $2 for delivery!

      • +3

Which means you probably saved $2 on petrol :)

        • +2

Also the effort of driving, should be worth more than $2 I guess.

        • yeah, although avoiding the waiting game would probably have been worth it!

have refreshed the tracking page a million times today…still doesn't even show up as received by auspost! :(

*waves fist at guy at DS who wouldn't price match for me!

  • Got mine today, excellent packaging.
The headphones are awesome, when they're turned on.
However turning them on creates an audible hiss in the right ear, which is really pissing me off :(

  • Jakie are you finding the left earphone is a little quieter compared to the right?
I found this is on my pair but when amped they sound more balanced.

Headphones can go pretty loud without getting distorted

Now I'm waiting on the m50 to go on sale so I can compare the two has anyone here got both?
If anyone does what do you reckon sounds better?
I prefer extreme clarity on a headphone

    • +2

I just got the UE6000 today and I think my ATH-M50 sounds better after a short time of listening.

The UE6000 are comfortable and the build quality is pretty good.

But sound wise, it's a bit muddy compare to m50 and I feel the treble is a bit lack to my like, where M50 sounds better in this regard.

The active noise cancelling is just like the reviews I read, it simply increases the volume and boosts the bass to a distorted level. I can't stand it at all so I just remove the batteries and decide not to use it at all. Good I've read the reviews about this so I'm prepared and not too disappointed.

I like clarity from headphones as well, and if I can only keep one of these two, I'll definitely go with M50.

      • If you try the noise cancelling without music playing you will find it does actually cancel noise and not just increase bass. It does get boomy, but I find it ok.

        • Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

Actually there are many good reviews about ue6000, that's why I pulled the trigger :)

Hopefully with some burn in they will sound better.

        • There's a few apps on smartphones that will just loop pink-noise
Alternatively just.. leave your headphones on playing for a few days.

Burn-in does matter (sometimes), my Sennheiser Amperiors sounded so terrible out of the box I thought they were faulty, a week later they were much better, and it wasn't from my ears becoming accustomed to the sound, I regularly switch between my headphones.

Hope your UE6000s sound good for you :)

        • +1

Yes I know, when I first got my M-50, they were super boomy!
It was kind of funny to play bass heavy music like that. lol

I can't remember how long it took, but eventually the bass gets under control so I do believe in burn-in. My other headphones don't have such severe changes though.

I tried the NC without playing music today but it doesn't work, I can still hear people talking clearly. I remember the NC headphones I tried in an apple store totally block the noise outside.

        • My experience with noise cancelling is that usually voices are not being cancelled, and that they excel at cancelling white noise (e.g. noise in a plane). But I have never tried expensive noise cancelling headphones. But for the UE6000 I can definitely notice it cancels white noise, e.g. a running fridge. When a plane comes over it cancels the low sounds, but not the higher ones.

      • +2

have you tried amping the UE6000? i find they sound best in passive mode with an amp.

can't really comment on UE6000 vs M50, as i've never heard the m50 (and i call myself a headphone junkie…for shame!). but from reviews, it seems most people thought the UE6000 was better.

also, yeah: i also read that they do sound better with burn in.

        • I'm listening ue6000 with o2/odac amp now and the clarity improves A LOT. Surprisingly they are even a bit brighter than m50!

I think ue6000 really need an amp to shine. On the other hands, m50 can be driven well without an amp.

So far I'm happy with ue6000 given its price and performance amped :)

Hopefully there won't be other good headphone deals appear soon so I can spend money on other stuff!

        • ah nice! Glad you like them enjoying them more after trying them amped! (and jealous of your o2/odac…don't make me spend more money!) :)

I am very happy with them for $101 with just my digizoid zo2 and fiio e17 (not at the same time, obviously).

Although, I did order m-100's last night! aha (see the deal I posted if you want to spend more money! Although, I don't think they are to your taste in sound.)

        • Must…. resist…. XD

Actually I just saw a couple deals from headfi.
AKG K550 for about $230 delivered and Fostex T50RP for below USD$100 + shipping.

          Too many temptations haha.

There might be some good deals at Black Friday, have to have money…

        • BTW, also saw it on headfi says ue6000 on special for USD$80, so envy with all the headphone deals they got!

        • Aha, yeah we've been reading the same thread! :) (i was tempted by the secondhand D2000 from amazon warehouse for $313USD…i previously missed out on a pair for $199, because i was working out how to get it shipped!)

I figure $10-20 is not so bad, because shipping would cost at least that much anyway. But yeah, I was more cut about the half priced ($200) ue9000…I would have preferred the bluetooth as an extra justification for buying them (a use case not covered by my other headphones)!

Let's hope we have (or DON'T have?) access to some black Friday deals! :)

    • Just taking a guess I'd say the ATH-M50's wish I had bought them instead.
I think these will be going on eBay soon.
