  • I sooo want to hold an 8" tablet up to my ear as a phone :P

Though I assume you'd just use it as a speakerphone. Price doesn't do it for me.

the idea is to use it with a bluetooth headset not stick it against your head ;) Fantastic option for business users that don't want to carry both a bsiness phone and a tablet. Lacking from most tablets these days.

  • Aldi 3G tab seems nice, needs more spec info

If this the same as last one, best to avoid. Returned it within a day, wouldn't even allow you to view youtube for instance. Had heaps of bugs that weren't easy to fix, wouldn't even allow updating google apps.

Edit: Plenty of discussion here about the 8" tab

    8 inch: 8" 1024 x 768 Ultra Bright Display
The catch? I suppose poor viewing angle (since it is not IPS)

Seriously, just spend another 40 bucks and get one of those reburbed 3G Nexus 7s…

  • Except the nexus 7 3g isn't a phone as well.

    • Yes, and I reckon that lots of Nexus 7 owners that comment in threads like these that reference 8 inch tabs have maybe never experienced the very real practical difference between a 7 inch screen and an 8. The small tab sweet-spot, as far as I'm concerned.

      • I've got a Nex 7, but I'll admit that I prefer the 8 inch screen on my mum's iPad mini. The bonus with my Nex 7 though is that it (just) squeezes into my back pocket.

      • Having owned and used both 7 and 8 inch tablets, I would prefer an 8" screen every time - less visual compromise for browsing etc.

      • Yes, lets get an extra inch of real estate for worse hardware and build quality…sounds logical…

  • This is a pretty low price to give a phone/email/web capable unit to somebody who doesn't need much Internet (e.g. older or non-tech savvy people).

    • Yeah I thought the same thing till I tried one. Lol you have nothing really to lose getting one to play with.

8 inch tablet with 4:3 aspect ratio hardly work out that much bigger if you watch a lot of wide screen content. In fact they add a virtual bezel to the screen. I can't hold the iPad mini comfortably in one hand, which is something many don't like. I think a 7.7 inch tablet probably would be the perfect balance.
