For those looking for massive amount of data storage, here's decent offerings from Amazon. Seagate Backup Plus 3TB USB 3.0, their Backup Plus versions seems to be less prone to data failure in my experience relative to their cheaper version of expansion. It is tailored specifically for Mac users, however this can be easily re-formatted to suit any drive format you need.

Cheers folks, as always - share your suggestions if you find better deal especially if locals. Don't just keep it to yourself, share the love!

  • Not a bad deal. It's $198 at JB Hi-Fi and $190 at Officeworks. You won't be finding a better deal locally.

  • I paid USD$99 for this from Amazon on Nov30, 2012,
Around $20 for Shipping at present.
    Beware these are heavy!

    • 11 months ago and would have been around Amazons black friday sale. Prices have fluctuated since and also Amazon has jacked up their shipping prices since then too. This is a good buy even at $135 delivered compared to local aussie prices.

    • Are they loud? Being heavy sounds promising to dampen vibrations and possibly muffle the sound of the spinning drive..

  • Lol, thought that was a USB stick in the thumbnail :P

Does "for Mac" mean anything aside from being preformatted with HFS+?

I assume this drive is just as good for Windows or Linux.

    • Yeah i'd say factory formatted as HSF+ and ready to go for the Mac out of the box.

  • Good deal, thanks OP. They also have 2TB and 4TB on that page.

  • Noob question, sorry. I was thinking of getting a couple of these. Any suggestions on what to use to allow it to connect to Aus. power socket? Thanks!

All these drives comes along with international adapter, meaning: it will self-adjust to local power voltage. You simply need to buy the local 3-pin plug. On ebay, you may find for $2/each, doesn't really matter of quality, because it is the adapter which crucial.

  • What kind of drives are inside these?
