Numatic Henry NRV200-22 1200W Vacuum Cleaners $168 AUD + $20 Shipping

400

This is the commercial version and its back in stock again at The Hut, usually it sells out very fast and this time its 10 pounds cheaper than the blue and yellow.

A lot of people have missed out on this version because it sells out very quickly and this is the first time it has been in stock for a long time so I hope they can get one this time around.

Links to older deals with lots of information about these vacuums.

Conversion done using google, PayPal will charge more but you can use a credit card to get it for cheaper.

Also as with other deals shipping varies, I have bought 2 with free shipping and for the same deals others had to pay extra for shipping. Also Other times people have had free shipping when it says I need to pay extra so I don't know how that works. This time it shows 11.99 GBP for delivery for me (about $20 AUD).

I tried to find some coupon codes to make it cheaper but none of the ones I found were working.

rodripa, that bad pun did not get past my (HEPA) filter

Actually, I should retract that bad pun of my own. Sorry, I must be getting a little dusty.

    • +3

At least you kept it clean. +1 for you both.

    • +1

dammit, I extend an upvote for your retraction. I hope this filters the air between us.

      • +2

Crystal clear. Thanks for extending an arm, not an attachment. No bag(gage).

        God(free) bless you!

Grammar Nazi's rejoice! Another brand name that can't spell.

Maybe pneumatic doesn't translate well in Portuguese.

  • So this will blow me away?
edit: just noticed this sucks because it doesn't blow

    • It may do son, but you're gonna just have to suck it up princess.

  • +5

Frankly I would only consider one of these if the eyes move.

I crave supervision, and if the appliance can automate that process, I'm on-board.

    • +4

You could always pay me to watch…

      • lol comment of the thread so far

      • +1

        I said supervise, not watch.

Subtle difference. Do you have references?

  • The price is showing $188.97 when i convert to AUD

    • Don't think shipping was included in the price.

  • This is one loud vacuum cleaner on the high speed setting. On low speed it does little. Good deal.

    • +1

Its not excessively loud, even on high its actually the quietest I have owned which is good considering its also the most powerful I have owned as well.

I've only owned 2 before this (both old hoover Hoover brands before they sold out) but I have recently used a Dyson DC05 and a Bissel BS11V6F that belong to different brothers.

Both are louder than my commercial Henry and the Dyson has noticeably less suction, although its a few years old but they are supposed to "never lose suction" so I guess it only had that much suction from new. The Bissell was pretty rubbish but its a wet and dry so not really in the same category.

I haven't come across any really really quiet vacuums unless they are clogged and close to needing to be replaced but its not something that I ever looked for even though they probably do exist.

You will also notice this is marketed as a "quiet" vacuum:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak9tstBOGzw

Ctrl + F here and type quiet, see how many times it comes up in the reviews:
      http://www.amazon.com/Numatic-Top-Seller-Professional-Techno…

Perhaps its not as quiet as a vacuum you may own, but while this isn't whisper quiet I wouldn't say its loud at all either.

      • I find my Henry is pretty quiet on both low and hi speed settings… far quieter than my old vacuum, and the Henry is easily the most powerful vacuum I've ever known.

If you want to know what loud is though, attach a power head to the Henry - it makes the thing scream.

        This is it:

        http://www.cleanstore.co.uk/products/Product.asp?ID=1324

I actually bought mine from the Hut (<$50 delivered), but they don't seem to stock it anymore. These things are GREAT if you use your Henry on carpet.

  • Why I can't convert the price to AUD. Paypal is still showing GBP amount. Anyone?

Edit: got it and showing $199.24

  • What power plug does it have?
    And is it very heavy/unwieldy?

    • It has a UK plug. You just need to buy an adapter for it, you can get them really cheap on Ebay or around $10 from Kmart (etc). The UK uses the same voltage as Australia, so you don't need a transformer, just an adapter.

It's not that bad to pull around either….. I've had one for a few months now and it's definitely worth it.

      • +1

How about taking the UK plug off and completely replacing it with an AUS plug (negating the need for an adapter)? Would that work okay? Or would there be any voltage problems?

        • +1

A Australian plug will work fine if you know what you are doing, its pretty simple but technically you should have a "licensed electrician" do it even though I did mine myself with a $4 HPM plug from Mitre 10.

        • No. Don't. Mains voltage is dangerous as all hell. I've seen DIY modified cables catch on fire. If you house is old or has dodgy wiring you're running the risk of death every time you plug/unplug it.

You would be safer taping the adaptor to a UK plug and even that is stupid and dangerous.

As for voltage, some areas of Australia are provided with higher voltages (250V). If you live in one of these places your vacuum may overheat and burn out quicker (dependant on the tolerances chosen by the manufacturer). But this is true for all electric devices sold in Australia.

C'mon now, no need for scaremongering. It's like saying you're running the risk of instant gory death every time you cross the road because a driver could smash into you.

Keep in mind that in many countries in the world, it's not illegal to replace your own power plug. People are perfectly fine there. Just because something is made illegal doesn't mean it will kill you.

The Henry doesn't have an automatic cable winder as well, so you don't have the problem of a spring-loaded winder slowly pulling the plugtop off over time.

You would be safer taping the adaptor to a UK plug and even that is stupid and dangerous.

I strongly disagree. A proper plugtop, correctly installed (which isn't difficult at all), is MUCH safer than a UK adaptor with its added resistance and point of failure. If you bring your vac in to a sparky they can probably swap it for you on the spot for a pittance.

Not true. The voltage standards here are set by AS60038-2000 which is based on the IEC 60038 standard - just like the UK's BS EN60038:2011 (formerly BS7697).

As such, the upper voltage limit in Australia is absolutely identical to the UK - 10% over 230V - which is 253V. That means both in the UK and here, the maximum voltage allowed is 253V.

I got this little sucker at work, I was told there's different ones (like Royalty names) Gotta Catch 'Em All. And it also has a short power cord. Silly thing tips over like it's drunk.

  • Can't believe they sell them here for $469……Bought one to replace my cheap $20 vacuum

  • thanks ordered one

  • Got one. There was a turbo head previously, and where to get the bags?

  • -1

    Much better than any dyson!

    • +2

No, it's pretty much the worst vacuum money can buy:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109449#comment-1486944

But I've stopped trying to dissuade people from the "Henry cult" a long time ago, since they're too blinded by the amazingly rock-bottom prices and rave reviews to listen to reason; let them find out the hard way. It's probably why you see deals on these things all the damn thing lately; I bet half of them get returned.

It would have been a great vacuum in 1980 when Henry came out, but it's 2013 now and this thing offers absolutely nothing over vacuum technology from 2 decades ago. If you're still clinging onto a non-bagless/non-powerhead vacuum it's really time to move into the 21st century.

      • But I've stopped trying to dissuade people from the "Henry cult" a long time ago

then continues trying to discredit them

I couldn't disagree more with your impression of them, if it was as bad as you make out then they wouldn't be one of the best selling vacuums in the world with 1000s and 1000s of 5 star reviews.

I would warn people away from them if they were garbage but they are far from that. For what they do they are up there with the best of them at any price, and at these prices they are unbeatable.

      • Not really, check out many comments on amazon day it's way better than dyson. The vacum does pretty much what a dyson has and a lot cheaper.

Preach it to someone else mate. I still have that useless 1980's antique sitting in my garage gathering dust, while I use a Hoover Prestige 7010PH maybe twice a week, and it keeps the house a damn sight cleaner than that worthless Henry ever could, even with more frequent cleaning.

It's a complete crock this thing; and as for Amazon reviews being the ultimate arbiter of product worthiness, Apple iPods have 4.5 star ratings on Amazon from a combined 2.5K reviewers… 'Nuff. Friggin'. Said.

then they wouldn't be one of the best selling vacuums in the world with 1000s and 1000s of 5 star reviews.

          Thousands? Nice sensationalist spin there.

The Henry Hive-Mind Cognitive Dissonance Syndrome continues to be an amazing insight to consumer psychology.

        • How much do you want for it? $50?

      • Power heads are awesome if I recall but so unweildy to manage with the secondary cable running down to them. As for bagless, I've never used one - but I've heard they frequently store bugger all so need emptying almost constantly?

Your review is comprehensive, what would you recommend?

        • Not sure what "secondary cable" you're referring to honestly; mine looks like this:
          http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjQwWDQ4MA==/z/rNwAAOxyhotSM~cD/$%28KGrHqJHJC!FIcVunHJ%28BSM+cCqr+Q~~48_20.JPG

The tube, handle and extendable, telescopic rod are all one-piece construction with the power cable integrated into a conduit inside the handle and rod.

Most powerhead vacuums come with a compact powerhead attachment to use on non-linear surfaces or in areas where the extended rod is too unwieldy.

As for the more frequent bag-changes; I don't see that as a "con" necessarily because firstly, powerhead, bagless cyclonic vacuums pick up way more filth than conventional canister vacuums; that's no inherent design flaw, it's just a testament to how much debris has built-up in your house and how ineffective your traditional cleaning methods are. Over time, as you use a bagless, cyclonic vacuum more and more, you'll find yourself filling it up slower and slower.

Secondly, I prefer emptying out the canister into a bag and into the wheelie bin, as soon as possible. I just don't like it sitting in a non-airtight vacuum bag, in a cupboard for months at a time.

For what other household cleaning product or device is it acceptable to just store whatever waste/refuse it collects/removes inside a receptacle that stays inside your house, for periods of time long enough to become a respiratory hazard? Personally, I want it outside of my house, the instant I remove it and I'm actually glad I've gotten into the routine of never keeping any vacuumed filth inside the canister after I'm done vacuuming.

I'm not some hypo-allergenic, germaphobe but seriously, think of how much densely-packed crap is in the average vacuum bag and for how long it is stored by the average consumer before being disposed of (you don't think any of that is bound to escape out of the bag with the kind of rough treatment most vacuums get and the fact that when dissembled there's literally nothing preventing it from escaping the vacuum?); not to mention the more a vacuum bag gets full, the less suction power the vacuum has.

        • +1

I know you've said you pretty much think the Henry is the worst vacuum ever…. but like a few others I do disagree as well.

Yep, it's old technology, but that's a plus! They're built very strong, they have good big motors and parts are easy to find (and easy to replace). They are reliable, unlike a lot of the smaller plastic bagless systems which constantly break (at least mine always have!).

The bag system is actually good, and it's a large 9L bag too so it can hold a lot of stuff. It's WAY WAY WAY better than my old $99 bagless Kambrook I bought from K-Mart. I hated emptying out the canister as I always got dust everywhere trying to get it into a bag into the wheelie bin.

(and yes everyone, I realise my old bagless vacuums were the el-cheapo ones… but the Henry, for the $200 price I got it for, is SO much better than the previous vacuums I've owned).

The Henry does have a power head available, I have one - it's great. It's damn loud though with the power head attached.

When I grew up my parents had a (bagged) Kirby with powerhead, that was a great vacuum. The Henry is every bit as good as that one (well except the Kirby had an attachment for wet cleaning as well which the Henry can't do!).

  • What's so good about them?

    • it looks way cuter than a dyson.

    • Great value, powerfull, does its job, I guess cute also counts. These things are selling like hot cakes, the community knows whats best, and what they're buying. Don't listen to some of these trolls that know nothing. Hostly it's not the best vac,but listed as one of the top ranked vacuums. Even a simple google search with 4.5/5 or 9/10 stars is enough said.

  • For the people who don't like bag or the design or noise or something else about nenry vacuums.
What do you recommend at the sub $200 price point?

    • Put up with bagged and buy your last vacuum cleaner… Miele.
Costs about $300ish but nothing compares. Get a turbo head. The don't need a power head.
Bag holds a surprising amount and beats the pain of cleaning bagless.

    • I've just read the latest choice review on vacuum cleamers

and Miele is their choice in Brands

they rate the s2111 as 80% and is $299 (their price, which you should be able to find cheaper)
the dyson they rate at 83% but that's $949.

They rate the miele down as that model has no telescopic wand, but they do say the wand is large.

    • A Wertheim or a Miele if you absolutely have to go for a bag, canister vacuum.

  • Every single time i see one of these deals i get this image stuck in my head!

    http://i.imgur.com/2aNtsXa.gif

  • The blue one is still available and it only costs a little more. What is the difference between them though?

FWIW, I've used Henrys before and they have been great. Every Dyson I've ever used has been big, bulky, awkward and useless. I currently have a 10 year old Wertheim and it's been great. I wouldn't touch a Dyson with a 10 foot pole. This Henry will be perfect what what I want it for… occasional use.
