Earning Frequent flyer point

Ok so I activate my Qantas Cash Card today, basically it's a debit card that if you spend $2 on stuff, you get one FF point. So I'm just thinking of a few ways to "abuse" the system.

For example: Can I spend $500 on Wollies gift voucher to earn points, then use the gift vouchers to shop at wollies and swipe my everyday rewards to earn more FF points(I linked FF to my everyday awards).

Same goes for Caltex when it comes to fuel.

Any other suggestion ? :)

Please don't comment on how useless the points are, I know they're useless but since I only spend on my absolute need, might as well just get something out of it as a true ozbargainer.

  • As long as I know.. you dont get points if you use your GC. its only if you pay at the counter..

  • I don't like credit card unfortunately. Saving up for a house and do not want C/C to go against my borrowing power !!

  • Yes, you can earn points when using a gift card to pay, I do this successfully all the time. However, you can't earn FF points when purchasing a gift card. See: https://www.everydayrewards.com.au/edr/static/rewards/anon/m…

Since you can't earn FF points (through the Everyday Reward program) when buying the cards, I think you would work out even and it really isn't worth the hassle. There is no real "double dipping".

I buy Woolworths gift cards online using my Entertainment Book discount code to get 5% off (I use a Qantas AMEX to do this = 1 point per $1), then I use the gift card at Woolworths and earn FF points (through Everyday Rewards) when I purchase groceries. For me, FF point wise it is the same, however I save 5% by buying the cards online so I do this…although it can be a hassle sometimes!
