Didn't know Deviantart actually sold art lol.

  • Anyone has a good art they've found? Been wanting to hang something in my room but haven't found anything suitable.

  • I keep getting "An error occured while processing your request. Please try again." so can't even browse.

  • Out of curiosity; has anyone ever purchased from www.allposters.com.au? I know they're not AU based; but am curious of their quality.

I am particularly interested in picking up a piece of Lichtenstein (without paying full price!) - but I don't know how well they'll come up…

Allposters usually have discount codes available, you just need to subscribe to their weekly email newsletter. The last code I received was for 30% off: MADU79

Their quality varies on the cheaper items, from very thin to sturdy paper. What they call 'art prints' use a superior paper. Another alternative is to try and locate of HQ image of the artwork you are interested in (surprisingly hard still in the digital age) and have it printed out by a place like artscows. I had a few HQs printed out at 20 x 30 inches when Artscow had a special; I think it worked out at $18 per print with shipping from Honkers. HQ art collexions are sometimes posted on avaxhome.ws . For art prints you want at least 250 pixels per inch for the best quality (the images I used for the canvas prints were about 18 megapixel, which was ideal). There are good artifact reduct and enlarging programs available to assist, like Noiseware Professional, Intellisharpen, and Photozoom Pro 5 (I really like the latter).

Thank you Thaal! I appreciate the effort you've put into such a detailed response. I am going to do some looking around into that later tonight.

      • just curious about this.. what do you do with posters?..use same as canvas on frames or are there any special frames? …sorry if it is stupid question …

Unfortunately premade frames are very expensive, especially in Australia. Crazy Clark's like stores and department stores have some cheap frames, but generally only in small to medium sizes. Making your own from moulding is an alternative, but you have to be willing to cut glass or know someone who can do so for you cheaply.

For a cheap poster hanging solution try the Command strips: http://www.amazon.com/Command-Poster-Adhesive-Value-48-Strip…
They have better reviews on Amazon than their competitors, though their adhesiveness depends on what they are attached to: gloss paint is best, unpainted brick or cindar block is worth. Remove any dust before applying to.
You can purchase them locally at OfficeWorks or BigW but they are 4x the price here compared to Ameritopia :(

A last alternative is to glue the posters to sign board (available quite cheaply at officeWorks in sizes up to 30 inches long) or to foamcore boards (eg Elmers brand). I recommend pH Neutral PVA glue (Bookbinder type) and PH neutral foamcore, but the neutral variety is about 3 x the cost. Amazon has all of them for sale, but from memory only ships the foamcores overseas, not the glue or Command strips. If you don't use pH neutralized materials, the lignin (I think) degrades in paper to become acidic and 'burns' the paper it is in contact with an ugly brown. I'm not sure how long it would take for this to become noticeable.

Since I received 4 +ives, i don't mind providing a detailed response since people are interested.

  • I'd love to hear more please Thaal. Also poster size frames are available at Kmart and Reject shop for $20. The Kmart ones are more contemporary but take care as the ding easily. If anyone knows a way to get custom mats cut economically I'd love to know. You can buy equipment but I don't really want to do that.
