FREE 1TB Online Cloud Storage @ Yunio.com (Windows/Mac/Linux/iOS/Android Clients Available)

70

I was looking for a free online cloud storage service which has a client for Linux and found this. Right now you get 1TB free online storage when you sign up.

They have a very comprehensive list of clients (in both English and Chinese) — probably the best I've ever seen, so I decide to share with you guys. It may be particularly useful if you use Linux regularly and only have limited free storage with Dropbox.

The website, yunio.com, seems like a Chinese startup company. The server is likely located in China which can potentially be a deal breaker. Anyway if you want some larger space for less sensitive files then this one may be for you.

Visit https://www.yunio.com/download to download the client. There are some Chinese characters but it's easy to figure out what it means. When prompted for installation make sure you choose English. Using the client is not as straightforward as Dropbox, as you need to manually create folders and upload files. You can also choose existing folders to sync and share. Haven't really tested thoroughly but I'd reckon it should be easy enough.

pfffft! why throw your (personal) Data to a "unknown" companies cloud servers? hmmmmm. PASS!

Presumably you could encrypt your files first if you really wanted to (encrypting the filenames may a bit more of a challenge though).

Because a lot of people have a lot of personal data that isn't a security risk to them. If the Chinese decide to go through my couple of hundred gigs of family photos and manage to find a way to exploit them, well, good luck to them.

        Better still, upload stock photos!
We'll see who can waste who's time more…

      • Isn't the bigger problem the client?
As you would expect the client to look at your HDD or storage (and hence you allow it to do it) as well as to upload stuff to the storage (also allowed) how do you know it does upload only what you want it to upload and not other stuff?
Since you are forced to use the client (or at least strongly encouraged, not sure if there is any web based access) I would be very cautious. To the extent that I will pass on this one.

        • Firstly what do you keep on your HDD that's a security risk? And secondly what have you got that's likely to be found by a sniffer, interpreted, and then uploaded and used?

A bigger concern about the client is whether it's installing trojans and key loggers onto your system, and with a startup based around high volume traffic that can't seem to handle people downloading a 9MB client, I'd say that's a lot more likely than the client uploading files you didn't ask it to. It's still a bit too much tin foil hat to me, but I can certainly understand holding off for now.

  • Anyone else having problems downloading the client? It only goes at about 3KB/s for me until it dies after 1MB or so.

    • Now muncan knows who is wasting whose time.

  • So many new hosting companies coming from China. I bet the NSA is jealous. :D
