But aren't the catalogue prices the same online?
Yes, unless you count markdowns (eg. old meat/dairy).
I think (some of) the prices (non-catalogue specials) can be different.
I think it so, but as roughana said below, some of the non-catalogue IS different, for example: this pasta is 0.63 ( may be 0.65) in store. They have to make up the extra cost some how, because they have extra staffs to "shop" for you.
there are also non-catalogue specials, some exclusively online :)
Yeah but then they aren't paying checkout chicks and staff to hang around the "convenient", "no jobs lost because of these" automatic checkouts to help every second customer that requires assistance either :p
Not catalogue items and milk bread etc but the time it saves is priceless .
Plus if you order meat- you always get extra I get about $20 extra per order as they have to give you more than you paid as they never usually have the correct weight - last week I hit 2 lamb roasts at $9 each as I order one for $10!
anything from deli => bonus extra :)
I don't know why this was deleted from my description, but to state the obvious if you have signed up before you could always make a new account to take advantage of this offer.
According to their T&Cs: 3.2 You may not have more than one active account, and your account is non-transferable. You may update, edit or terminate your account at any time through the Site.
Sounds to me like you can terminate your existing account and sign up again, within the rules.
If you can find $30 of catalogue specials that are the same price then you won't pay anything extra by ordering online.
I don't think it is a deal. Woolies online is more expensive than their own stores.
Online prices are approx 7% higher for non-catalogue items. But there are some benefits to time poor people:
Woolworths does not mark up their online prices nearly as much as Coles. Also, specials are not marked up. Only some not on special items are marked up.
some disagree - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/118146#comment-1617232 :)
It doesn't look like there has been a comprehensive study done on that, but this article from Fairfax says that Coles marked up by 47c on average compared to 27c on average for Woolworths, for a mixed basket of goods. However what that article doesn't note is that some types of items are not marked up - such as Woolworths milk, bread, eggs.

I used Coles online for about 7 years, then 8 months ago I switched to Woolworths online. In my opinion the value is considerably better at Woolworths. They also have more specials at Woolworths, they often send out coupon codes for a fixed % off your total shop or free delivery (wheras Coles don't) and the delivery fee for a $200 order is $5 compared with a flat $11 fee at Coles online(last time I checked).
Additionally, Coles online were constantly forgetting to include things in my order and I would have to chase this up with Coles after the order had been dropped off, wheras Woolworths are drastically better in that respect. This may have just been the local Coles that were putting together my order - rather than an overall reflection.
EDIT* Oh yeh and one more thing. Coles website didn't seem capable off offering multi buy specials. For instance, where something was advertised as buy 2 for $6 in the catalogue, that was never available online. I suspect this was just because of IT limitations rather than intended. Not sure if they have changed that now, Woolworths website offers the multi buy deals.
The whole online ordering thing is a PITA.
a new competitor will come along one day and eat their lunch.
Seems to work on my existing account, so maybe it works for everyone.
hmm I am a first time customer but it doesnt seem to be free delivery.
You add your items to the cart (min $30) then click the "check out" button. You should see the "sub total" then below that you will see the "delivery fee" then below that you will see "less delivery fee discount"
I noticed this on my order. I didn't think I was eligible, however, I had only placed one order and then while taking advantage of the other deal I didn't have to put in the code for free delivery.

beware you paid extra for online order. Happy eating …
