  • Actually how much to install it?

    • DIY is free.

      • +1

DIY is free but I don't know ….

        • It's not hard, but a bit fiddly…

If your car has standard connectors, it could be as easy as just plugging it in…

        • My original one is like double size of this one but the CD player is dead.

        • You need a double DIN single DIN with pocket fascia to fit this.

        • Just get a single-DIN pocket, simple!

        • OK let me Google.

But I don't really need the speaker anything cheaper?

        • Double DIN… You can get a Double to Single din pocket that you can use for storage to fill out the extra space…

          http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l131…

        • anything cheaper?

You can wait for the next JB sale…

    • In the catalogue it says "speakers", two speakers.

Also worth mentioning the JVC mechless stereo with BlueTooth, for $139 according to the printed catalog:
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/JVC-M…

For all those OzBargainers out there with decade-old cars, this is a decent way to add hands-free Bluetooth to your car. I made the jump about a year ago, and it's fantastic. Whenever a call comes in, your music stops and you hear a ringing tone through the car speakers. Press the answer button on the wired remote beside your steering wheel, and you can easily answer.

My unit wasn't the same one, so I'm assuming this one comes with the wired remote, even though it's not shown in the pictures. The remote shown in the pictures is an infrared remote, powered by a lithium watch battery, for all those back-seat stereo drivers.

      Another vote for JVC…

      I got this one,
      http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/default.aspx?P=670173
during a JB sale just before Xmas last year… (for $128.80)

      Very happy with it…

apart from bluetooth calls, i can stream music wirelessly from my iphone…

      • I should have mentioned the streaming of music, I forgot about that. You can also push the bluetooth remote, call out the name of someone in your phone's address book, and it will dial hands-free.

But be VERY CAREFUL to verify that it has called who you think it called - sometimes the voice recognition isn't that good, and you'll be talking to someone unexpected…

      • Have the same unit as you, I picked mine up about $115 from memory from JB. You seriously cannot get a better feature set for the price.

Its not a flashy looking unit, and the display is basic. But for the features its great. IMO much better then the pioneer on sale

Don't forget to also buy a Sandisk Cruzer Fit drive or similar to store your music on. An ordinary USB drive sticks out way too far, and in most cars you'll damage it or your fingers/knuckles when grabbing for the gearstick or automatic t-bar.

    Not available from SuperCheap, AFAIK.

  • hows this offer from repco instead? double din and looks like the JVC mentioned above..

    $119

    http://catalogues.repco.com.au/offer/car-audio-systems-speak…

      • Some units include the BT adaptor, it may be cheaper overall if you can find a more expensive model with the adapter included.

I've just found the box, the model I bought was the KD-BTP52. The box says "CD Receiver and BlueTooth Adapter KD-R526 + KS-BTA100".

I remember I was doubly lucky: I went in on the day JB had their "25% discount storewide" offer, and it was already on special. They took 25% off the sale price, and I paid about $108 if I remember correctly.

I work next door to an auto electrician, and am friendly with them, so they installed it for $99. Took about an hour, mostly because my 1999 car had an older-style stereo connector which was incompatible. The radio came with a harness with the correct connector, but it had to be wired into place.

        • A correction: I've had a look at what's available, and apparently no unit currently ships with the BTA100 bluetooth wired remote. It looks like it is an option to many of the JVC head units, and will add bluetooth capability to those head units.

However, for any given head unit, if the advertising picture says "BLUETOOTH" on the unit's display, then it appears that unit has in-built bluetooth capability. From what I've been able to learn, it looks like such units come with an external wired "lavalier" microphone for hands-free usage. Not sure how you choose to answer a call - perhaps you press the large knob on the front of the head unit?

  • Looking for a cheap upgrade for my car stereo set. The corolla I drive just has standard cd player and that's it. Would this suit it?
Just mainly want to be able to play the music from my Galaxy S4 (don't mind aux, Blue tooth streaming or USB). If I can plug in a USB and play off that I wouldn't mind that too. Not interested in changing speakers.
Also don't know how to DIY but I can try and Google it and I might try it out over a weekend if it's not too difficult. Otherwise happy to pay for it to be done for me provided it's not too much expensive.
Can anyone recommend anything? Not too concerned of price. Max $150?

I installed one of these units in my wife's GETZ about a fortnight ago. Purchased from JB without the speakers for $68. I think it is very good for the money.
I have the JVC unit posted above which i bought from JB for $128.80 the same as JV.

I have both units playing from a flash drive both work great but the Pioneer loads much faster. The JVC doesn't start playing until i am driving up the street, the Pioneer is playing by the time i get out the gate.

Guys, if you want to install easily and cheaply by yourself, heres a tip:

Buy two adapters. Aerpro makes adapters from the car manufacturer plug to standard, and from standard to stereo manufacturer. No wiring required, takes 10 minutes and the best part is - you haven't cut into your harness! Your your next stereo will plug in easily with another adapter.
