It is tough decision. Some websites are suggesting that Apple will not bring out a retina mini.
With them getting hammered by Samsung surly there is a retina version on the way.
But for under $300 it is a tempting deal.
I've been waiting for the retina version to come out too. Some rumours suggested 10th of October for the release date. But ended up buying this now anyway. With 5 kids you just can't have too many iPads!

True. Apple needs to release products which are BETTER or equal in specs to its competitors such as Samsung. So far, Apple hasnt really impressed and WOW'd us lately…they need to do this to be ahead of its competitors, otherwise, using this method of making slight minor tweaks to their products, people will eventually notice and dislike Apple.
I'm sure that Apple will release new iPads this time round, hopefully Retina iPad minis and maybe higher resolution iPads to match competition.
Also, hopefully, Apple will announce a larger screen, 4.7inch iPhone 6 with a new eye-dropping Retina+ screen and great quad-core specs and a new iOS 8 operating system. This iPhone 6 will probably come out in March 2014 (swapping with the usual iPad event in March with the one in October from next year) and all new products coming throughout 2014.

instead of iphone 5c and 5s…..they should have gone to iphone 6 and iphone 6+.
with the iphone 6+ being the 4.7inch screen. By all means, up the price for the bigger screen.apple lovers will be willing to pay top dollar for the bigger to die for screen.
Instead, WTF with 5C….(C for cheap?) it's only about $150 cheaper than 5s.
Time to up the screen and ditch that "Perfect Handheld card size width" myth.

If you look at tech websites like Anandtech then you're right. Retina would draw too much powe at this stage with current graphics hardware.
It's very unlikely this year.
Analyst sites will say a retina is coming but they don't know the technical issues involved.

Definitely wait; it's just around the corner. Compared to the new Nexus 7 this is a hard buy.
You save about 70 bucks by buying it now. But considering that the new one is around the corner, and even without a retina display the CPU will probably be an A6X. To me the CPU upgrade it self can probably justify the 70 bucks.
Retina display is more than 4X better than this display.

i got one of these from Big W and found out about the Officeworks deal after, spoke to BigW online, they called Officeworks to see if it was a Sale or 'everyday low price'. confirmed it was the latter, and i went back the next day to receive my $62 refund. so just take a print-out of the page and you should be fine.
Just went to the one at Clarence St. There is a few left. They will not beat Dick Smith prices anymore but are willing to match.

I were a fan of Officeworks. However, I contacted them in this morning for price matching with DSE.
They said the iPad is out of stock and they can't do the price matching. I thought it is a reasonable.30 mins later, they changed the price and let customers order it online!

its much much better to play game and watch movies, also to read manga and magazine on tablet, unless you have 6-7" phone. laptop screen is landscape and not suitable to read magazines and manga or ebooks

macbook is just too big, ipad battery is awesome. try hold macbook in one hand (with screen open) and compare with holding ipadi never do until i have one

girls will likely feel ipad is too big or heavy, but personally i feel big ipad is better. plus i have note II.
Based on the adds on TV, girls do seem to like smaller, thinner pads.

Just price matched at bigw, Newcastle. Very easy and picked up straight away instead of waiting for delivery/click and collect. Well technically not price matched, paid $296.01

Big W pricematched our ipad with Harvey Norman about a year ago, no issues. They just called HN to make sure it was in stock there.
as long as it is considered an 'everyday low price' which works in our favour because OW site doesnt say its a sale price. I bought one for my girlfriend 2 days ago and got it price matched.

No, the screen resolution will be retina or unchanged. Apple won't go to some mid resolution in-between.
I really want to buy this, but dunno if I should just wait for the retina version, as EBGames will eventually sell these for cheap… lol
