The 3D part is actually "requires 3 'D' cell batteries to work"

not an extra dimension of light emittance that I was hoping for.

    • well light is emitted in 3 dimensions of space already.

Mag were the bees knees 20 years ago, but tech has changed.

"up to 131 lumens" is rather dim now for such a huge and heavy torch.
D-cells belong to history, and security guards who want a torch that doubles as a club.

Completely agree. I bought 6D Maggies as 21st presents for my close mates back in the day and gift boxed them in a large tool box. Always WoWed everyone at the time but to be honest I don't think Maglight have really kept up with the times. Can't see why they shouldn't have though, they had a great quality platform & reputation to build from and imagine how hardcore the torch would be now if they used the same shell to build a stupidly bright LED version powered with around 50cm worth of LiIon battery!!!

Mag were the bees knees 20 years ago…

Fair bet most of those maglites are actually still functioning too! Mine sure are. ;)

    • well, my single 1AA sized led torch that i got 5 years ago outputs at 127 lumens.
so the only reason someone still uses a mag is still the 'clubbing' feature.

    • You can always buy the LED replacement bulbs but I think they are about twice the price of the torch itself. Saying that - the batteries cost more than my 5D did :(

Their Xl200 is not too bad. Maybe not that bright but a good torch.

They are built to last and be relied on… Most people don't need a super bright torch.

  • Its less bright if you hold the torch wrong. This guy is looking at the roof but pointing the torch at the camera. And i though you could only hold an iphone in the wrong way.

  • I got this last week. I got it so I could have light and also have it double as a mini baseball bat….just what I needed :)

  • Maglites cannot compete in price and light output with the current crop of cree flashlights. But then again, you cannot use the cree as a baton just in case.

  • looking for a head LED torch… any good deals?

  • So which is a good brand to go for these days? Need something which is really bright (200+ lumens) and has the ability to focus and spread the beam. Need it for light painting and camping.

      200+ lumens isn't "really bright" 800 lumens is. ;)

i would recommend candlepowerforums for your enlightment needs :P

      • Will check the forums out, thanks :)
