As noted by Battler:
Whilst free, they work on a tips basis, so if you think you got something out of it I suggest you temporarily turn off the ozbargainer in you and give them at least as much coin as you would spend on a Meritline purchase (or maybe more)

============================================================================================================
Edit: There is also another free walking tour offered by the City of Melbourne, that one you need to book in advance as they are small tours organized per group and the volunteer customizes it based on your interests.
I will try to find more information about it and post the link.

    Excellent, and if you're into your Melbourne history, the free Parliament House architecture tour is good too (Bourke St used to run straight through the middle of it).

    Recently moved down to Melbourne. This will be a nice activity to familiarise myself with this new city. Thank you

    I've seen these guys in Sydney with tour groups and overheard minor bits.
    They seem worthwhile.

    • Thanks Mate,
      The only reason I didn't put this is then someone might say hey it isn't a freebie. Thanks for posting that, I'll add it to the description.

  • Went on the Melbourne one last Saturday…tipped the guy $10 which I think is fair

  • Not a direct comparison as this is a work of drama.. but The best walking tour I ever went on was this one Louisa's walk in Hobart, and it's not cheap but well worth it…

    I've been on and enjoyed both the daytime Sydney tour and the evening tour (around the Rocks)I was happy to pay $15 for the two of us and
    I think it was worth more.

    We did this " free " in Sydney years ago, pretty sure has been going on for a while. Enjoyed the Sydney walk… and yes did tip.

  • This looks great. Anyone know if there are any free or low cost Kayak tours in Sydney?

    • free Kayak tours? :) … how about free hot-air balloon tours? :)

      ps. The "I'm Free" concept is GREAT … went on one in Oxford, UK, last year. Also if you don't want to do the 3 hours in one go, you could just pick up where you left off, same time, same place, on another day. (OP will correct me if I'm wrong.) … and just tip as per conscience :)
