    Not unusual. Samsung blu-ray players use the same sort of remote control code hack to unlock region free dvd.

    If you want region-free DVD playback, factor the cost of the remote control into the price. I have seen OneForAll remotes at Coles or Woolies, not sure which model or models, for about $20

I had the BDP-S185. the BDPS1100 looks like a rebadged version. The quality was crap, buttons broke, then the eject stopped working. So disappointing from Sony, learned my lesson.
