Do you have to install and register immediately, or can I keep the downloaded file for when I need it and only install it then?
I'm pretty sure you can install at a later date. Just need to register, though the code only applies to the version that you donwload - 2.6.5. They email you the registration code.

download the trial version, share on LinkedIn, register with an email and they'll then send u the rego code. Use that code to register with the trial version, i think it should be fine.
