Mahler 8th Symphony Concert - Student Rush $20ea

80

We hope to see you in the audience! If you are unable to come, help us to spread the words! We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we do not have big dollars to spend on advertising. We rely on your supports!

Student rush tickets for $20 only, cash-at-door. For 21 September (Sat) performance only.

In 2013 Zelman Symphony will celebrate its 80th Anniversary, with two performances of Mahler's epic Eighth Symphony - Symphony of a Thousand.

We will have over 600 performers on stage, including a choir of over 400, a children's choir of 80, eight of Australia’s leading opera singers as soloists, the magnificent organ and an orchestra of 120.
We are proud to bring this rarely performed work to the public, and involve many of Melbourne's community choirs, community orchestral musicians and invited professional musicians.

  • Is this a bargain or just an ad?

$20 for a concert ticket is a bargain for me. The website says the cheapest concession is $33.95 so its just over 30% off.

For $20.00, you will see a community orchestra, eight adults choirs, two children's choirs, one of Australia's best organist and eight top vocal soloists performing Mahler's Symphony No. 8.

It is an ad for a bargain!

If you are into classical music this might be once in a lifetime thing, although I would prefer attending the Beethoven 9th.

    • Actually, MSO has $20 student rush and $40 normal rush tickets while Musica Viva and ACO have $15 student rush tickets. While this is a bargain no less, I wouldn't say its a once in a lifetime… I attended hundreds of concerts while in uni!

  • Hi rep. Sounds good. For walk up tickets though, presumably they would be at the back. Would I be able to get 4 tickets?

  • What are student rush tickets? Are they strictly for students with ID only? How many tickets are available?
    I presume no pre-booking?

  • Oops sorry. Double post.

  • Rep, I realise this this isn't a traditional professional business but you really should include the approximate location in the title.

Also, as you are advertising- ahem. … I mean alerting the broader community to a bargain perhaps a little more information would be handy. Particularly, in relation to what exactly a student rush ticket is.

    • OK - just come back from our last rehearsal and can answer all the questions:

Yes, this is a bargain. These tickets are at 2/3rds of the normal price.

And the normal prices are an absolute bargain in any case. You will hear 8 of Australia's best opera singers, a 125 piece orchestra led by Wilma Smith, Concertmaster of the MSO and nearly 600 performers on stage, including the Grand Organ. You would normally have to pay in the hundreds to hear Mahler 8 live. And it is rarely done because it needs such huge resources. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness Mahler 8 for less than the cost of a CD!

Yes, it is only for genuine students with a student card - you must show it when you buy your ticket.

Having played Beethoven's 9th and now Mahler 8, they are both grand but Mahler 8 is fantastic music, a fantastic huge show and equal to Beethoven 9 in my opinion.

It is in the Melbourne Town Hall at 8:00 pm next Saturday. Tickets are also available for our Sunday concert at 4:30 but only at normal prices.

And Tatnal, they won't be the best seats in the house of course. If you want better seats, go to zelmansymphony.org.au and buy the best available. They won't cost you that much more and are still a bargain. But get in early as seats are going quickly.

      Hope that all helps
