  • This seems like standard pricing for Wagyu doesn't it?

    1kg porterhouse - $35
    1kg scotch fillet - $45
    1kg rump steak - $22
    1kg BBQ steak - $18
    2kg sausages - $25 ($12.50/kg)
    2kg mince - $25 ($12.50/kg)

Add $10 for delivery and bam, $160 not to mention you have to bulk buy and can't pick your cuts.

    Seems rather pricy to me….

  • My local butcher sells the sausages for $5/kg and Mince $7/kg and the quality is great.

For the rest of the cuts,, pretty much standard pricing

A true ozbargainer would trawl the meat aisle at Woolies looking for the discounted meats. Can save a fortune and still get quality cuts.

  • OP, where does it say only 6 available?

  • I've never eaten affordable wagyu in Oz that wasn't chewy and disgusting.
Don't waste your time, spend your $20/kg on a prime cut that is regularly worth $20/kg and you'll be better off.

    • Australian Wagyu. Bleh.

And the beef from 2012 is still edible?

    • 'Aged' ;)

  • It's hard to assess the value of this deal without knowing what the marbling score of the steak cuts is (scoring varies from 4 to 12, the lower the score, the lower the quality). Any way we could find this out?

    • Marbling goes from 1-12.

Wheres this 4-12 thing come from?

        • Nah that's not the range, just the range they stock. They are a wagyu seller, and can't get above MBS-9 scored Wagyu.

CSU evaluated sensory traits across the full range of marbling scores and concluded the probability of a positive eating experience within the Prime (abundant marbling) grade is greater than 98%.
The next grade down, Choice, has three levels of marbling; modest, moderate and low. The modest and moderate levels had an 82 to 88% chance of being a good eating experience, while the Choice level with low marbling has only a 62% probability of a positive experience.
In stark contrast, the Select grade which has only slight marbling, has a mere 29% chance of delivering a satisfactory eating experience.

You can make up any scoring system, but the more fat within the meat, the nicer the taste.

        • You can make up any scoring system, but the more >fat within the meat, the nicer the taste.

This is really subjective to personal taste.

We were at Kobe Japan and ordered different marbled scored steak at a restaurant that serves exclusively Kobe beef meals. To me the highest marbled steak literally "melts in your mouth like butter" but it didn't taste like a proper "beef steak" to me - that is you can't chew on it. I ordered a cheaper cut (still about $80AUD) and the taste is much nice , has a better balance between fat and protein.
