Hi, first ever post so hope it's all correct… I was just searching for cameras and came across this at target, seems pretty good price. Doesn't mention the lens but pic shows the 18-55mm
Pentax K30 + DAL 18-55mm, $500 @ Target

isn't it a middle range camera?
Yes it is. Its the predecessor of the k-50
The camera body itself is pretty good.
The sensor is great for low light shooting. Also has inbuilt shake reduction.
body is weatherproof.
Some pentax lenses are good bargains, especially the primes. Some pentax lenses are good bargains, especially the primes.
No they're not, expensive lenses are the Achilles heel of Pentax along with the crappy image stablisation. If you get a Pentax then start looking at Sigmas and Tamrons, why would you spend $1000 on a f2.8 standard zoom when the Tamron equivalent costs $300?
For $500 this is still a great buy though.
Maybe adi meant the old manual focus primes? They can be had for pretty cheap. Modern Pentax lenses are a rip off though
However, if you get the older lenses second hand, theyre great value because it doesnt need the VR and IS that canikon has because it's already built in.
Im using my dad's 10 year old lens with MF, and it is great. probably because glass back then was better than now if it wasnt for the modern coatings
Don't forget that you can use older 35mm Pentax lens too. Just about any K-mount will fit and the more modern AF ones will work in AF-mode too. Note - the focal length will change though so a "50mm" 35mm lens will appear as an approx. 70mm lens on the DSLR cameras, (the DSLR has a smaller sensor area)
I've used Pentax for years, mainly because of the broad compatibility between generations. Never had a problem with any of them
If you want to use manual focus lenses, you might as well get Sony Nex cameras as they can take any manual lenses including Pentax K lenses. New Pentax lenses are overpriced now.
I switched from Nikon D5100 to Pentax K-30… It's a very decent upgrade (built in motor for AF, shake redux for prime lenses, weather proof, better control, etc etc.) even though they're in the same class. Most of the primes are much cheaper than Nikon's as well.
Saw Nikon D5100 with single (18-55mm) kit for 590 somewhere in this week's catalogues.
Sold Out
I got the package delivered today! very happy with the camera. They even throw in the box a vanguard carry bag and a sandisk ultra sd card without mention it.Yea the len is the dal 18-55 al but what can you expect more from a $500 package!
Good on you, mate.
I was seriously thinking about buying this one, but as it has mono audio and relatively low video bitrate, I'll wait a bit longer.
Otherwise it is a VERY GOOD camera.
To reveal all its potential I STRONGLY recommend you to order
PENTAX DA SMC 17-70mm F4 SDM for $439.20
OR (if you're on a very strict budget)
PENTAX DA SMC 16-45mm F4.0 $224.10
(+ $10 delivery)

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/11529916-45 F4 is a very good lens optically (and I've got one), but it protrudes at the wide end which creates a shade when used with an in-built flash, and it is quite loud (bad for video).
So I STRONGLY recommend a 17-70 F4.
If you have money you may want to get PENTAX DA* SMC 16-50mm F2.8 SDM $871.20. It is a very good price for a DA* lens (which is weather sealed as your K-30), but depends on how much you can spend.PENTAX DA SMC 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 SDM $629.10
Convenient (esp. as a travel lens) but I was not impressed with its IQ.PS do not sell a 18-55 DA L, keep it as a back up lens.
I too want to buy SDM lenses but Pentax has never officially admitted or said whether they have fixed the SDM issues. That alone has deterred me from buying one.
Still waiting for mine. I chose click and collect and tracking status is still "Initiated" sine yesterday. Excited to hear about the bonus bag and memory card!
Such a shame canon/nikon fanboys and mainstream market pass up on such a great camera at a great price.
I believe CR kennedy is the local distributor for pentax here in aus but i still ccant believe how cheap their lenses are. They are literally the cheapest in the world by far for pentax lenses. I bought a da 55-300mm and proabably saved $100.
The prices were even cheaper a few months ago. However, I would not recommend a new user to buy Pentax as its lenses are in general overpriced. Nearly all used Pentax cameras are sold with third party lenses.
Don't worry. Those tracking status are lousy . Your package should be on the way now. The PO s just too lazy to update it. You can go to your local target for pickup as soon as the status say "delivered". I did the same coz the SMS notice from target for ready to pick up never come.
It so tempting on CR Kennedy lens price but I'm looking for the all in one 18-135 wr len .unfortunately its price is still too high compare to dwi even with the 10% discount code.but The 50mm 1.8 is at excellent price now.
P/s. not going to buy grey stock as I always to support local business 1st.
Standard kit lens, price is good. Lens is only worth $50 second hand, good for beginners though.
