    • 20c difference is a valid price match.

      • It looks like they tried to drop their price to match DSE (Cos they were way more expensive) but were 20c short.. I would get in quick before they realise their mistake :P

        • Too late the price has been changed, PM no longer available

    • As i said the price is the same at Office Work so they probably wont price match this.
You can argue that OW is 20c more expensive but they are both $1039.20 on staticice

This really is a very good deal, its rare to find a laptop with everything. You get the new haswell processor, Full HD Screen, half decent graphics card, plenty of RAM. Touch Screen. Backlit keyboard. USB3. The only thing holding it back is no SSD, but it has got HDD Accelerator technology which i believe works similar to a cache drive.

    • Look at the P50t-A016. JB Have them.
Difference is a blu-ray burner and 8gig ssd cache drive.

Im not sure what the toshiba accelerator does to speed it up.

I bought it for $1273 a couple weeks ago before it went on the floor. Was told they are clearing out the A01C models for the A016

      • I read somewhere that it uses the system's RAM as cache. An 8GB dedicated SSD cache would definitely be better, but not worth the extra several hundred dollars. It's currently at $1498. If you get it at a deal it would be: 10% off = $1348, 15% off $1273, 20% off $1198…. Even if you were lucky enough to get a 20% off deal i would still prefer to get this as it would be around $200 cheaper ….
Also these are meant to have blu ray as well. Looks like SSD cache is the only difference?

        • The A016 has a blu-ray burner
          A01C has bd-rom

  • Good specs price wise. Was looking for an i7 quad core machine with a hd screen. Do Toshibas have problems with overheating like the old models do?

    • I am using a toshiba right now. The l850 to be precise. Over heating doesnt seem to be an issue. i played dota 2 for 8 hours straight on it and it is still fine.

    • I Have the P50T-A016

Played BF3 for hours on with no problems of overheating

    • This model does not overheat. I've stressed it for a fair bit and the fan works great.

AFAIK, Toshiba does not have heating problems, it has always been HP.

This is the best price for these specs think.

One thing to note though is if you decide to upgrade ram, it'll cost a fair bit. This uses some new DDR3 low voltage thingamabob which means its more expensive.

      • i doubt you need more than 8GB ram though

        • 8GB is more than enough for this windows 8 system, more than that is a bit waste, also,be careful when u get the RAM, it uses the newest low voltage one which is 1.35V (make sure you find this right voltage ortherwise you will end up like me,got an 8Gb Ram that cannot use on it :( )

        • What are you talking about? the laptop already have 8 GB ram on it you dont have to do anything with it.

        • you can put another 8GB and make it 16GB in total

  • have to upgrade the ssd to extract the full potential of this machine anyway,I got it for 960$ last time though + 187$ for the samsung 250gb ssd, takes just 3 seconds from start button to desktop login. still prefer mac though as i don't like windows 8

    • You can always downgrade to window 7 if you dont like win 8

  • anyone would like to pricematch officeworks, email me then and i will send you my receipt ([email protected] Henry)

  • damn. toshiba's really bringing their A game ey. I'm tempted, want something for uni + light gaming, perhaps should wait and see what other companies have to offer. Just wondering, how good is Haswell integrated graphics for older games (e.g. BioShock 1/2, any chance of Dota 2?) for if I wanted something a bit lighter it didn't have a graphics card, don't really understand the performance of integrated graphics.

    • it's really fast and the battery can last easily 4hrs

    • This have a dedicated Graphics nVIDIA GeForce GT 745M 2GB With Optimus

      • +2

I think he knows, he was wondering if he got something a bit lighter without a dedicated graphics card, whether it would handle the mentioned games.

        • Haha yeh, that's the case. I recently learned about the meaning of the numbers of graphic cards, so I assume the one above is moderately decent (new generation?). But yeh it's probably a bit too heavy for my liking - would ideally like something under 2.0kg.

My main priority will probably be end up being uni stuff, so not a big issue if it can't do gaming stuff, but was just wondering what would the performance would be like if I decided to get an ultrabook/convertible with the integrated intel graphics

Been procrastinating long enough. I pulled the trigger on this one. Great specs, good price.

  • +1

Haha just got this price matched. He opened up both the ow listing and the dse listing, flicked between them like 5 times then made an exasperated sigh that said what he was thinking was along the lines of "the person who set the price 20c too high is retarded and I hate my job". Lol.

  • 4 cell battery seems low for such a high end laptop. It will last 3-4 hours max…

    • +1

yeah the 4 cell is a bit of a downer.. but good deal nonetheless

      • Hmm… wonder if there is a 6 cell available for it

  • +1

OfficeWorks reduced their price. Now it's the same as DSE, e.g. $1039. So you can't get it any better.

    • What a downer.. Oh well, still a reasonably good deal.

  • If I buy this and take it overseas next month I get 10% gst back is that correct.

  • yup, if you take it to the TRS counter before an international departure within 60 days of the date on the Tax Invoice from a registered australian business.

  • MMM I just read if its over $900 they can get you to pay the gst back when returning to Aus , lol that seems a bit pointless.

    • +1

I don't think that's the case, the idea being that on the way back in its just a regular laptop in your hand luggage.
Of course the idea of the TRS is for foreigners to get their gst back before they return home, but I'm pretty sure we get away with it too. But others more knowledgable than me will surely comment if I'm wrong.
      Some more info here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/713473

    • does the receipt have to be in the name of the traveler to get the gst? I'm planning to send a laptop to my brother overseas.

      • okay, I know the answer. It was in the link Riczter mentioned.
        :)
Invoice should be in the travelers name if the item is more than AUD1000.

  • does this have a shiny reflective screen I hate those screens.

  • In July was $911. After TRS, was $828.

  • I might wait for a better deal then

  • I think I read on whirlpool that this battery life will struggle to last any longer than 4 hours.
It is a shame as I really want this laptop!!! Would buy it today if it didn't have such poor battery life. Still beats my current Toshiba Qosmio's battery life of one hour though!

  • Got one for $987 at HN and purchased 3 year Product Care Replacement for piece of mind for $163. As per this plan, they replace the product should it fail even due to minor fault.

  • for peace of mind. sorry for the typo above

  • $1104 til the 16th
