Samsung Series 8 60" Plasma 3D TV for $1999 Delivered + Extras @Bing Lee - PS60F8500

90

looks like this deal is back again: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/112116

I was able to negotiate a few little extras for an extra $1 without trying too hard, which brought the effective price of the TV down to $1908 undelivered.
If you're planning on picking it up you might have some leverage to reduce the price by the included delivery.

$1999

And this one is also a great price (if 60" just aint enough):

$2499

Yes, it uses more juice. But but the picture is simply amazing for this kind of money.

Hey megaamaid, nice find. The price will be more visible if you put a dollar sign in front of the 1999 though.

Done. Thanks for the tip ;)

  • Surge boards are always handy. I think I have six or seven all up.

What's the reason why Bing Lee doesnt have shop in Melb or other big cities?

    • Bing Lee started as a small electronics store in the western suburbs of Sydney, I guess they stick to the markets they know well?

  • Samsung PS60F8500 vs Panasonic 60ST60?

    • I'd take the Panasonic.

    • go and have a look yourself - the brightness on Samsung is quite a step above Panasonic

In this case the Samsung, because your talking about the Pana ST. If you compare the flagship model it might be a different story.

      • I understand that they are in two different tiers but they are within the same price range.

        • You can bargain the st down to $1750. So that's $250 in your pocket to invest on a home theatre system. I got the st a 2 weeks ago and still breaking it in but have no issues with brightness. I find even with the brightness levels set high it looks too unnatural especially with the greens. Otherwise this is a good price but would go for the st based on price, build quality and expert reviews.

    • The Panasonic VT series would be it's equivalent counter-part. The Samsung F8500 is their top-tier Plasma.

    • That was my dilemma. I went with the Samsung for the brightness. White walls in the room and lots of sunlight.

I also have a Samsung blue-ray player and figured they'd play nice together with the smart features.

    • It's a tough one.

As a general rule (IMHO) Panasonic is better than Samsung within their respective tiers (and usually by a fair margin: with the exception of brightness, which is where Samsung really shines… no pun intended).

But because Panasonic are so much more expensive you have to make a cross-tier comparisons (As Amar89 and hippyhippy have suggested). Does Samsung's top-tier beat Panasonic's second tier? At launch (where prices are closer to RRP) I'd have to say no (based on value)… but at this price point - especially in a bright room where every lumen counts - I'd go with the Samsung (and I'm a Panasonic guy).

Having said that, Panasonic have great build quality.

Also, despite what some might say, I wouldn't go into store and make your judgment there (unless your house is a similar warehouse style environment and the TV will be under 1000 fluros and surrounded by hundreds of other TVs). It's not a great environment for testing. Look at good quality online reviews (WhatHiFi, AVS, Tech Feed etc) where people have conducted testing on calibrated sets.

      My 2 cents. Good luck.

  • Pana +1 all day, everyday.

  • i have the pana st60 … they are very very similar in quality .. pana wins in power efficiency, its a bit cheaper, doesnt buzz as much as the sammy from my research. Sammy has better smart features, is super bright for a plasma, probably overall better PQ than the st60 (but only slightly).

if u have a bright lit room, go for the sammy for sure. Otherwise they are both quite similar.

  • With the price drop, the Samsung has fallen into my budget. I'l have to do a bit of research on the Samsung now. Thanks for the responses! Also on the Bing Lee site there seems to be a $150 cash back offer. Unfortuantely it doesn't load but judging by the URL link it seems you could claim a sound bar.

    • Sorry mate, you have to purchase a sound bar and then get the $150 cash back. Go to Samsung promotions.

To the OP why does this expire tomorrow? This seems to be their regular price.

      • The promotional material in-store had 3day sale on it. Expires this Saturday.

There was an old sticker on it of 2999. But I think their regular price is about 2299. Not including delivery

        • Okay thanks, must be an in store versus web price. Strange, but noted some retailers do this. Also think Bing Lee must have purchased all of them from Samsung, stock is getting very hard to find locally.

  • I'm after the 64". Do Bing Lee ship to Melbourne? I put my postcode in on the website and it said free delivery.
Maybe I can use this price to get someone local to match it.

  • The Samsung may be their top tier model, but who really uses all the smart TV stuff?? It's not very usable at all if you ask me. There's other devices, which do a much better job. I'd still bank on the Panasonic for having the better panel, and after all, that's 99% of the reason you're buying the thing.
