Dremel 4000 - 4/50 $154 - Less with Bunnings Price Match!

420

Doing the Bunnings Price match -10% in Alexandria store today in my lunch break caused quite a fuss.
in fact I think I cost bunnings about $15 on thir cost price alone. much more in the 20+ minutes of multiple staff members running about and calling everyone.

The rep in charge of dremel gear got called down and was really cranky (about the price sydney tools offered it, not at me) And was going to ring up head office and get sydney tools told off for selling with too low a margin….

So hurry up and get this if you want it!

Bargain-good timing for dads day ;)

  • is there any power difference between this and the 8200 cordless version?

  • +1

Good deal on a good piece of kit

  • +5

Dremel guy is a genius - way to admit to resale price maintenance.

I have a 4000 and inherited a 8200 from a mate moving overseas. The 4000 is a bit of a beast, has far more torque - but it's often a pain in the ass to use, to the 8200 probably gets used 10x more.

    • Agreed on this one - you never really need the extra torque of the 4000, the 8200 can cut through steel screws and aluminium angle no problems at all. It's a lot more convenient to not need to plug it in, and not have the cord dangling/pulling when you are doing a fiddly job in a confined space etc.

The only issue with the cordless is that it comes with only 1 battery, if it had 2 then it would be ideal. The battery is a quick charge, so you can get going again after a short break, but sometimes you don't want to stop in the middle of a job.

      Great price though!

      • I'm not really a fan of battery packs. they come with chargers to look after as well, and cost more for what you get… the 8200 pack comes with minimal tools.

l have an extension cable that can reach to any place in my house I might want to use a power tool, and excluding a blackout any of my tools are ready to go at any time… making sure discharged batteries are re changed before storage means you're just back loading the hassle.

Also, I like that the 4000 series comes with the flexible pen extension for finer control of detailed work. No idea how well it works, but hopefully it turns out to be at least half as useful to me as I think it will be.

"Dremel guy is a genius - way to admit to resale price maintenance." …….. 100% Correct

    • +8

way to admit resale price maintenance

      +1 to this.

The big retailers are also massive hypocrites too. They're the first to complain if someone loss leads or sells close to cost, but don't mind squeezing smaller retailers in reverse.

Almost enough to make me want to buy a tool I don't need to stick it to bunnings.

      • +1

yeah I know! While they wer'e complaining about their margins the smaller hardwars stores were exactly what I was thinking about too…. :-)

      • +1

Weird hearing the Bunnings price fixing conspiracies. I think you just went to a bad store. I posted a crazy cheap Bunnings Dremel deal this week. Dremel Saw Max $80 off RRP and $50 less than Masters. And cheap Dremel Multi Max was also found.

FYI currently priced at bunnings as $199, so its a savings of ~$50 with price match.
Are you able to upload the receipt?

    • +1

will have a go later tonight. though my deal was extra weird.

they called sydney tools, and got quoted a price of 149 (which is their price for the smaller 4000 kit not the 4000-4/50) and even through I tried to tell them the price to beat was 154 they beat 149, cause that's what they guy on the phone quoted…. so my actual price was $134.10 instead of $138.6

  • +2

    Good find OP.
Maybe you also should report the rep to ACCC for trying to dictate the free market?
This is the kind of practice that I really hate of local distributor. Gouging us consumer with their ridiculously high margin, and trying really hard to punish small store that can offer competitive price to us…

    • I'm not out to hang anyone.

Also, as long as the sydney tools price doesn't shoot up tomorrow, or they suddenly end up losing their wholesale supply then nobody has actually done anything wrong (and if this does happen, it's the distributor who has done something wrong, not someone on the floor at bunnings…)

  • +2

    hmm.
get tools direct has this on ebay $154 posted.
    get tools direct website $166
    justtools $155
    bunnings $199

    • +3

Sydney Tools on eBay also has the same Dremel 4000 4/50 kit but with a bonus of the right angle attachment (that is normally $35) for $169 delivered, so if you were thinking of getting this kit as per the OP as well as the right angle attachment, then this eBay deal from Sydney Tools is better for you as you will save another $20 (ie $154 +$35 - $169).

on eBay, the seller "powertoolworldaustralia" is actually the same as Sydney Tools (ordered from them before, got an invoice with the Sydney Tools logo etc, also check out their website which is the same at http://powertoolworld.com.au/). You can the same deal as the OP from their eBay store, delivered.

      • Someone sell me their right angle attachment :p $25, Perth.

  • +1

damn, OP great find and great price. I wonder if anyone can price match in VIC without the $20 shipping? Kinda kills the bargain for interstaters…

    • +1

You know, even with the $20 shipping, if you get a Bunnings price-beat, it's going to bring it down to not much more than this price, only a couple of $ or so, so in effect you'd be getting Bunnings to pay for the shipping.

    • +1

See my post above - check out this specific eBay deal and save yourself 10c. :) (But not the price match for the extra discount :( )

  • +1

Masters also has a price guarantee (10%), and they sell the Dremel 4000 for $199.

  • -1

Don't think every bunnings would be that hard? Im sure depends on the individual, most people would glad to price match under cost price, they have to in there T&CS.

  • +17

I'd be happier just buying it off Sydney tools. If independents are willing to get out there and undercut the big boys I take me hat off to them.

    • +12

This a million times. I know we are all here to save a few bucks but we should really be supporting the guys like Sydney tools who can keep the big boys honest.

  • Bunnings and dremel = big no no for pricing.

Stuff bunnings on this one. And stuff the guy calling the Dremel rep! I'll be filing a complaint against the two of them if sydneytools have issues.

    • +1

Clearly you did not see my post of the Dremel Saw Max at Bunnings. $80 off RRP and $50 less than Masters.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114516#comment-1563309

      • @deal88 Do you work for Bunnings?

        • No, I don't work for Bunnings. In fact I find them poor to deal with especially with price beating. Masters are good with price beating.

But Dremel only have s few tools and I found 2 tools last week heaps cheaper at Bunnings than else where, so Stores should be questioning why Bunnings can sell 2 Dremel tools $50 cheaper than everyone else.

And FYI, I bought my Dremel Saw Max from Masters with no issue getting the extra 10% off. Masters had it for $149 and I paid $88.

      • Yeah I did. Ok ok, I should have worded it better. I meant usually

        • I am usually on google price checking before I buy at Bunnings. Their prices at not usually that good.

  • +1

    Yay !!!
I just got one at local Erina Bunnings!
They Gave 10% off the $154 with no problems !!!!!

  • +2

i've priced matched paint at bunnings before without the slightest hassle. it was about $60 cheaper at masters.

    • What paint was that?

    • Try price matching anything at the local Bunnings and you get treated like a criminal. The big industrial fans that they sell for around $183ish, Supercheap had it for $1 less. They were NOT impressed. I've also seen them tell people who asked, if they could get it cheaper elsewhere, to go there.

    • +1

      yes.

    • Good find, bro.

  • Has anyone tried price matching in Victoria?

  • +1

I was in the Fyshwick ACT Bunnings store yesterday checking out the Dremel 4000-4/50 unit. (Tried to get them to price beat the Sydney Tools price but they wouldn't unless postage was included, so no deal. Was going back to Sydney this weekend anyway, so I'll just get a price beat up there).

Anyway, they seem to have a large supply of Dremel 4000 Platinum Edition kits (6/128?), also selling for $199. Basically comes with a larger tool box and more attachments. Just wondering what people think of the value of this kit, compared with getting the 4000-4/50 at $138.60 or the 4000-4/50+right angle bonus at $169 mentioned above?

    • +1

Who was showing to have the Dremel 4000 Platinum Edition kits (6/128) ? I can see the pic on Bunnings website but the model number is showing as Dremel 4000 5/50, do they have the 6/128 kits at Bunnings ?

      • I'm not sure if it was 6/128 or 5/50, but definitely platinum edition with the bigger box.

        • Ok went into Bunnings Toowoomba this morning, can confirm that it is Dremel 4000 5/50 Platinum kit. This appears to be the same as the Dremel 4000 4/50 kit but has the better Box and also comes with the right angle attachment. Comparing it to the $169 kit from Sydney Tools Ebay I would say that it is not worth an extra $30 for the box.

However, Bunnings did price match it against the standard kit from Sydney Tools ($154 + $20 delivery = $174 - 10% price match = $156.60) so at this price I would say its the best option available of them all.

I am at work so can not upload receipt at the moment but can tonight if people need it.

        • I managed to get the same deal from a Brisbane based store.
The 4000 with smaller case (4/50) is the same price as the platinum (5/50) with the bigger case.
Just show them the 4000 4/50 page and that it is a 4000 with 50 piece tool kit and they should match it.

Although the platinum case is cheap and the smaller case is probably handy, I have a friend with a regular case and it is such a pain trying to cram everything back into when you are done.

  • +1

Hi guys what sort of work I can do with this tool? Do I need one???

    • If you are asking yourself this question you probably do not need it.

      • +3

if you are on ozbargain you probably do need it.

        • Need not. Bargain, or no Bargain. There is no need. ;)

        • Watch out. Someone could report your comment for saying something like that on here…. :-)

  • +1

Ok! So I probably got the best deal!
I got masters to pricematch justtools.com.au ($155). So from $199 I got it down to $139.50, then they had the "$10 off if you buy $50 or more instore or online", so the final price was only $129.50!!!

While I was at it, I purchased the workstation separately for $58, after applying the $10 off!

    hahaha!

    • +1

      I've got better mate.
Went to bunnings - they told me they gonna make discount from SydneyTools price + 20$ shipping + fees for paying online (smth about these fees on sydneytools site during checkout)
So I went to Masters - they take SydneyTools price as starting point - 154$ , then -10% and -10$ (fathers day) = 128.60$ and gave me 10$ voucher for the next buy over 50$

      • +3

And neither of you guys have given a + for this deal?

        • +3

          sorry. done.

  • Was very interested in this deal but after a bit of a scan of Sydney Tools feedback, I'll try the Bunnings option tomorrow!

    • +1

I was checking out Sydney Tools reviews on ebay and saw they purchased the services of a company to throw some 5 star google reviews their way.
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111077534729

Makes you wonder of the actual ratio of negative to positive reviews they legitimately have. -5 stars for integrity.

      • Wow, thanks for that link. I must be naive but it never occurred to me that there could be a business opportunity providing fake reviews.
I'm surprised E.bay allow the listing as, apart from the fraud aspect, it's also the thin end of a wedge that could greatly hurt their credibility, as well as Google's.

  • Got one in bunnings Kirrawee, no probs matching. Also split payment to get 5% ing cash back. Good deal

  • Checked Bunnings Ashfield last night and they had changed their shelf price to $148

    • Took the $148 bunnings ashfield price to masters chullora to price beat.

Initially the tools guy was a bit of a tool, saying we only price beat bunnings greenacre (their nearest local competition). Anyway he got the front counter girl to price check with bunnings, I told her to call ashfield lol.

So $133.20 after 10% off. But they wouldn't put the father's day $10 off coupon through though, no double dipping said the tool :S

      • +1

Wide range of tools at Bunnings ;)

        • You mean at Masters.

        • +1

          Plenty at both lol

  • I bought the plunge router attachment but have not yet got any router bits yet. Does anyone know if the standard cutting bit can be used ok for routing/inlay work?

  • was able to price match it with sydneytools at hawthorn east Masters in Victoria. They wouldn't do the $148 Ashfield. their reason was: Different product code online and they guy refused to give them a call. got it for $135.10

  • so the Dremel 10.8V Li-ion Cordless Rotary Multi Tool set for bout $149 from syd power tools is good cordless set ?
