Being Dodo, you'd need 6 months to download 1GB. :)

    • -1

shouldn't be any different to Optus or any other Optus reseller.
I'm just trying to think if/how/when I would need this SIM. Already have enough data on my $11/month Vaya phone plan. Don't have a 3G capable tablet or laptop.

They have a knack for converting something ok, to something utterly useless. My experience with them in 2k9, left me with a very negative outlook. Multiple staff were very deceptive. In the hours I spent trying to obtain service, I spoke with a few good staff, but there were some that lied about everything.. Even when they refused service and agreed to cancel contract, they kept attempting to take money from my CC for 4 months.

        • +27

2k9? You mean 2009? Wow you saved all of 1 character using an abbreviation. :)

        • +38

he's still with dodo, every character counts when its dialup speed over an adsl line.

just seeing the word 'Dodo' makes me shudder. They are the most disorganised company around. Just ask any technician which rack belongs to Dodo in a data center and they will tell you it's the one with the cables that look like spaghetti

Well, 2 years ago I was with Virgin Broadband (3G). Shocking speeds, even outside on the street in Melbourne CBD. I'm talking 3 digit kbps down at 1am in the morning, don't even start me on peak hour, be happy to stay connected for more than 15min at a time.

And yes, they used the oversold Optus network.

Edit: I'll still give it a try… $2, what could go wrong.
Edit2: It travels through Dodo's routing system for their internet service after it reach's Optus's mobile base stations. So you still may get stuck with 'Dodo' speeds

        • Virgin Mobile have over sold their allocation of the network so these problems are congestion on their network and priority and primarily the reason for the massive rise in complaints reported recently by choice against Virgin Mobile which are now being lodged to the TIO. I can confirm the same problem too, 7 months of active service and not been able to use it, ended up having to take it to TIO to cancel the contract but lost most of my credit in the process.

Dodo are not as bad as Virgin Mobile but in a similar boat overall and getting worse, likely you will experience a level of congestion due to similar concerns and they are also very difficult to deal with like Virgin when it comes to resolving these issues.

I'd recommend saving the $2 for something else. ;)

        • Depends on number of users in your area.
Seems like few Dodo/Optus users in mine, so works well.
A $2 investment is a cheap way to test out a telco.

    • i've tried dodo previously and didn't experience anything too bad

    • Sure? Not my experience. Fast enough.
I download up to 1GB/d via hotspot on Android phone. That's on the $9 10GB deal.

      • i have dodo adsl at home in Tasmania and get about 17 - 18 Mbps which i happen to think isn't too bad.
I hear lots of people complaining about Dodo but my experience has been great.
Happy to hear from anyone that can tell me a significantly faster 100% unlimited ISP in Tassie at the same price.

    • Not a problem where I've been using it. Speeds are generally around 4 Mbps and time of day not an issue.

  • Perfect for my new MF70A…cheers OP :)

  • I'm already paying for data on the phone so I might as well use Hotspot!
Probably worth the $2 tho… But only just!!!

Must be activated within 30 days sucks, would of been handy to keep in the draw as a backup!

    • Agreed… First thing I looked at!

    • +3

      It says

must be activated within 30 days of receipt.

just leave it sitting on your mailbox until you're ready to use it…

    • Agree, otherwise $20 will last at least a year and a half for me.

  • +1

actually it's a normal sim with micro-sim cut so you can pop the miscro sim out if needed, all Dodo sim is like that.

    • +1

Yup, thats what i meant. You get either size. Nano not available.
      Common misconception about sim sizes

      • true, but i cut my Micro into a Nano size to fit into my iPad Mini. Works perfectly :D

      • I just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on SIM card formats :)

  • When does the 1gb expire? :S

Are they on the Optus network? :S

    Edit: Okays, 60 days…
    Edit: And it's Optus? Okays…

    • And; Must be activated within 30 days

        • LOL, they probably have some cut-off date, buried deep in the TOC. :)

      • +1

from the last $9 dodo deal months ago, i activated mine only few days ago, works fine

        • So it might worth to gamble with a few 2 dollar coins.

          Buying 4 :)

          One at a time :(

  • -1

Is this a once off payment of $2? Or will they setup a regular payment?

    • +1

Did you really just post this????

  • -1

    postage? $6?

    • +2

      free postage… total is only $2 via paypal (1.82 + 0.18 gst)

    • Worked fine for me(total incl. Del $2)

  • Do you guys know where I can get a cheap 3g dongle? Thanks in advance! :)

  • hi, technical issue… anyone got problem with this www.noworries.com.au site. I can only and buy in IExplorer, but the Chrome browser crashed my laptop every time…(fans switched on high and everything is halted.)
There is also a limit on one per customer for this deal.

    • I used Chrome and just finished the ordering. Nothing wrong, so I
think something wrong with your chrome configurations. Not the website
      problem.

    • I also had problem with Chrome. My computer didn't crash but the PayPal page wouldn't load. It worked fine in Firefox though.

  • My iphone 5 is locked with optus. Will this work on it since dodo is made out of optus?

  • yes

Be warned. Aside from slow speeds, Dodo doesn't allow hotspotting

    • i activated mine today and asked the question, I said i was going to use it in an old android phone as a mobile wifi hotspot, is that ok to use like that, and he said yes, no problem. USB stick, ok, mifi devices ok, and was told hotspot ok. dont really know how they could tell.

      • Yep. quote from the site: "perfect for your 3G USB modem, pocket wifi"

    • Ah the misinformed! ButWhy?
Downloading up to 1GB/d via hotspot on old Android phone.
Speed is as fast as my old ADSL line at peak times & reasonable for the price.
Am hotspotting on Dodo writing this:-)

      • +1

I've been with dodo post paid mobile broadband for 2 yrs. Hot spotting on my iPad is turned off.I've contracted dodo twice and have been told that optus doesn't let them. Things may well have changed.if they have my bad

        • I second this.. Using dodo prepaid on my ipad but hotspot is disabled. Contacted dodo about it and they cannot enable it.

        • Hotspotting is available on Dodo, but not on iPad as reported by others with different telcos. It's an iPad thing. Just because something can not be done on iPad does not mean it can't be done :-)

  • Is that web site secure for credit cards?

    • paypal is secure

  • Ii have had numerous problems wirh dodo over th years and recommend you hav nothing o with them.
    Totally unethical.
They charge your credit card when not supposed to, lie, break promises etc.
    Beware.

  • This may be a stupid question but does Dodo ask for your credit card details? i.e. do they charge you if you exceed 1GB?

    • Never asked me for any form of id or cc when I activated by phone. I bought the $9 10GB unlimited calls/sms + 100 min international calls deal through a group buy site.

      • But is your deal brucefromaustralia, the same as the $2 one here?

I do wonder about excess usage charges. Surely you need to activate with credit card and drivers license info - otherwise your not-so-friendly neighbourhood goon could unequivocally abuse this service for spamming/hacking/terrorism/stalking/etc

        • +1

Activation may require ID but CC is not required. If you've already paid the group deal there is no need to provide a CC. If you run over the data quota, they just stop serving you.

        • Thanks for the reply greenpossum.

        • +1

There have been a few Dodo deals lately, similar conditions. Activating is same for all & via call centre in Manila 2 weeks ago meant few questions. They only wanted code from deal & SIM code. Could have given any details (name & contact number) & never asked for id. If you exceed quota on all these Dodo deals they pull the plug.

        • Customers with four or more existing pre-paid mobile services (including pre-paid mobile and mobile wireless broadband) will be unable to activate this service.
I wonder how it'd work if you were to cancel the service before starting your next $2 service each time?

        • Limit of 1 per customer & 30 days allowed to activate.

  • Is anyone else getting 'Invalid Shipping Method' when trying to checkout?

  • Mine's now working, and I've just put it in my iPad and changed APN. Dodo have none of my details… Oh well.

  • so how exactly is the 1GB internet claimed?

  • Received 2GB but only valid for 30 days.

    • How to check?

      • Login at www.dodo.com.au and go to Usage on the left, and look at the expiry date of the active card.

  • Here's late, but an update on the speed here south east of Melbourne.

    Speedtest.net (NB. megabits, not megabytes)
    DOWNLOAD: 2.32Mb/s
    UPLOAD: 0.73Mb/s
    PING 75 ms
    SERVER: MELBOURNE Optus

All in all, very useable. Especially at 5.30pm

  • Anyone had any luck with using this on a Samsung Galaxy S4? I tried the settings here and here with no luck

    • Ok got it going. APN type to "default, supl" and it worked this time.
It took me to a registration page. Do you have to create a Dodo account and provide all that info or is there a way to bypass it?

      • I can't even enable the data network on my LG F160K, tried manually config the APN, it just says "cannot connect to network, check network setting or turn wifi on" every time when I turn the mobile data on. The phone worked fine before with another dodo prepaid sim and I got this sim card activated for sure as I can see it inside the dodo account said activated.
Seems everyone here got no problem with it…but just me

        • Add a new APN.

          Name: dodo
          APN: dodolns1

        • worked! thanks!! ;)

        • No worries :)

  • Just activated my sim and wondering how to check the remaining data and expiry date

    Anyone know?

    • I found the easiest way is to visit this page on your devices internet browser while using mobile data: my.dodo.com

You'll see the data used/left and days remaining.
