  • Good buy ?
In the market for one whenever I get a good deal.

    Edit

    120 degree wide-angle lens

Is this what a more 'expensive' cam would do as well ?

CHECK Real Video in description - Video done in Sydney!

Thought that would involve a collision, but no.

  • 1280x720 @ 30FPS is what every cheap dash cam does.

How can we be sure the bit-rate and compression on this one is acceptable? Any videos of a test recording?

    • It's not an dslr

      you get what you pay.

    • Any videos of a test recording?

There is one on their webpage

  • +1

Real video done by this camera in Sydney - Hornsby
    http://youtu.be/co3oNaOAw98

    • Did the video record under 30fps?

    • Apart from the car that is stationary at the lights to begin with, I can't read any of the number plates of any of the vehicles in the video???

Eg; Try to read the Bus & Truck at about 40secs after taking off from the lights or the cars on the left and right side of the road from about 1min onwards. I can't even read the number plates of the stationary cars right next to the camera car from 1:18 onwards.

You would have to hope the person you had an accident with was obliging enough to do it very slowly, directly in front of your vehicle, at exactly the right angle ;-)

    • Is this a joke? I played the you-tube in 720p, fullscreen, and there is nothing remotely hi-def about it.
Looks like every other fake one. Could only read the plates immediately in front at the lights.
Real HD looks nothing like that.

      • +1

It actually looks pretty similar to my stupidly expensive (at the time) full HD DOD GS600.

        • Here is a test:

Take a still frame, scale it down to SD, then scale it back up and compare to the original.
If there is no visible loss of detail, it was never HD to start with.

        • It is real 720P and for $40 the quality is very good.
The similar model costs $70 in retail shops.

Based on your requirement you should check Amabrella cameras.
          They provide the best quality

    neg you for 2day fm

    its not bad

not great but seems ok for $40

    • please check video footage of Ambarella cameras in our shop
They've got Ambarella cpu lile go pro hero cameras

  • You get what you pay for.
What brand of chipset? What cmos sensor? What focal length? What apperture? I am willing to pay more but will definitely not buy any of dashcams that are afraid of stating the information I mentioned above.

    • +1

I've got the widest range of Ambarella based chip cameras.

Please check the latest model with Ambarella A5S30 CPU and 170 degrees lenses ( real video and full description in DESCRIPTION SECTION)
Ambarella CPU is used in GO PRO Hero cameras

      http://www.securitylab.com.au/cameras/Dash-Cameras-Australia…

      • Thanks the reply rep. Could you recommend any dashcams that have 5MP CMOS, A5 chipset , and preferably include WDR (night shooting) and GPS logger.

  • PICKS UP number plates!

    Built in ANPR?

    • NO, but on video you can see number plates unlike with cheap cameras

      • No you can't.

The video you linked to is disgraceful. Can't even make out a number plate from 10 metres away. Is that supposed to be good?

        • It's as good as you're gonna get for $39, I think.

There's only so much a small lens and low-cost sensor can do. Wide angle lenses and small detail don't go well together. Even my expensive DOD GS600 is really poor at number plates from a distance.

  • Looks pretty cool for $40

  • What type of Memory card is supported?
How much is postage to Melbourne?

  • OK for $40. A question for Securitylab-au: why are you taking a demo footage against the sun? You would get much nicer picture quality if you were driving the opposite direction :)

    • +3

Thx for advise I will do today

    • +5

Footage against the sun is GOOD because you get to see how the camera copes with bad filming situation.

  • +4

    FREE POSTAGE across AUSTRALIA!

  • Rep, can you give us any idea of battery life too? I am considering buying it.

    • +1

They connect to your cars cigarette lighter socket. Auto power on when u start car and auto power off.
Get a cl 10 good quality micro sd card… no el cheapo.
They do have a small battery built in for when out of car… may last 30 min??… just so you can do setup etc.

      • correct, around 15-30 mins
        So keep plugged in

BUT there is solution - power bank
        http://www.securitylab.com.au/power-bank-1000

        • POWER BANK is very useful
you can leave your car at car park and record several hours
IT IS very ESSENTIAL SECURITY ANTI VANDAL DEVICE

        • Wouldn't people want to break in to steal the device? Needs stealth mode (except that would cost thousands =P)

Still a good device, just take it with you or keep in the glove box when you aren't using it.

        • If you want ignition off running then you can hard wire it into a live 12v line.
No need to use other battery sources.

        • Mine folds up out of sight when not in use.

        • does POWER BANK support cars cigarette lighter socket???

        • the power bank you sell has an output of 5V, will this power the camera which i assume needs 12v?

  • ordered one and will transfer to your B/A soon. how abt warranty?

    • +3

      1-year warranty

  • Rep, so you said it has to be kept plugged in - that means wiring will be running along somewhere in the cabin, is this correct? Do you have any cameras which can be charged then used without needing to be kept plugged in?

I am very keen on this camera and the footage looks great for the price. But the power issue is the only thing holding me back.

    • Made in China you need a warranty mate.

      • +5

we provide tax invoice and local warranty. Plus delivery from Sydney

        • +1

But essentially they are the same stuff?

    • These are posted from outside of Australia. Which is a deal breaker for most..

  • +4

I have one of these in my car but I have to Twin camera one. ($65 on eBay from AU seller)
Front camera Is in 720p at 30 fps which is ok for the price. But I've tried to read people's number plates of footage on the freeway or a road where they are in the next lane and its not that easy.
Rear camera is just VGA which is pretty useless for number plate recognition.
Battery life is really crap, about 30 min so I have had to run a 3m power cable and its plugged in all the time so that when the engine starts it turns on and records and visa versa..
Shock sensor is pretty useless and as I said, battery life is crap.
I've also noticed that if the battery is near empty, the unit will turn of during recording even tho its still plugged in all because the battery I'd empty ???,
I can't explain that one, but overall it's a great basic unit for just your basic recording purpose.
The mini sd Card is 32gb maximum capacity (not supplied) and recording with the two cameras holds nearly 10hrs of recordings. This being just a single camera unit still only holds about 45min more when I unplug the rear camera.
Night vision. - on my unit the rear camera has great night vision but the front is very bad compared to the rear. I've done tests and for some reason the front just isn't good at night, you can still see cars and lights but once you get into a side street it's pretty much just black ( a little better with the high beams on.

For $40 inc delivery it's a pretty good score for your basic unit.
Oh, the other thing I really don't like about this unit is that it can only shoot straight meaning you have to mount it in the center or the windscreen. Because all windscreens are curved, placing it on the edge points it in the wrong direction . If that makes sense… Camera lens can be swiveled up and down but not side to side to center the recording view..

    Hope this helps

    • there will be a deal for dual camera with price around $59 exactly the same model.
By the way, we've got dual cameras with 720P for both cameras

      • +1

        $50 sounds better.

      • +2

Yeah.. $50 & free shipping for father's day sounds nice.

      • Any updates? I'm interested.

  • how come it's not free shipping on checkout?

    • please try again. it is free

      • still not free.. no free option.. paypal summary states $6.01 for shipping and handling.. no credit applied.

  • I am wondering how Motion Detection works.
Let's say my car is at a shopping centre car park. None is in, engine is off.
If another car gonna hit (better say scratch) my car, will I get some video showing it ?
I do not mean a moment when it happens as the camera will need a couple of seconds to start recording anyway, but what would be happening after including a rego naumber of that car.

    • +1

camera senses any motion and starts recording but battery lasts 20-30 mins so it has to be hard-wired to car's battery

      • It sounds good enough to me as you are rearly been hit twice while you are away. Depends on how long your shopping takes. Mine does not last longer that 30 minutes (or 2 hours if I am helping my missis).

    • This is the reason I mentioned in my above description that the motion detection option is pretty useless unless. Might as well just leave it on record full time while your at the shops.
If a car hits you while parked, it takes a few seconds to start recording, (which is not proof that it actually hit you)

      • Amyway, you will get an evidence who hot you

        • Yeah, evidence, not proof

      • +1

It may be not a strong evidence which you can provide to the insurance company or to the court, but once you know who you've been hit (car make, color, time, ideally a rego naumber), you can always do further investigation and collect mor evidece (like the other car's painting on your car or on the bitumen next to it, etc).

    FULL HD 720P 720

720p is only HD (1280*720) but not Full HD

    • yeah, thx I will fix it

This pic shows the camera without the cable, how long can it go without a power cable? I have the JBHifi camera mounted in one car, but it was too big to mount on another car. This looks good, but just worry about the power cable in the way.

    • it's got car cigarette charger cable 5m long

  • Do you have a video from a night time drive with this?

    • +1

I will do today and add it.

      • Thankyou! Provided the night time is okay, i might get one provided my service today doesnt break the bank…

  • Ok, you can neg the $#!t out of me here… But what's the advantage in having a cheap camera like this over say just mounting the iPhone on the dash like I do? (apart from mounting/demounting each time).

    • Your iPhone needs space for other things, you don't leave your iPhone in the car all the time so you have to attach it and plug in a charger every time you get in, and the lens field of view isn't as wide. It's probably not as easy to mount in a good position given the shape of the iPhone too.

    • +3

I used to think the same thing and I got negged the crap out of me for saying the same thing on another in car camera deal posted a while ago.
I was told that using the iPhone as an in car camera decreases the memory chip because of the constant recording and deleting. Also in a crash the iPhone can be thrown around the car and even out the window if its not secured properly.
And last but most importantly is that all the in car phone apps stop recording if the phone rings.
(That is probably a good thing because you don't want to valve video evidence of you talking on your phone resulting in a crash) <—— "Joke"

    • +3
      • Mounting/removing the phone and running the app manually every single time you drive is a huge hassle. You might be tempted to not mount it for that 3 minute drive down the corner shop, which could be when a car swerves in front of you.

      • A camera gives a MUCH wider field of view. You see more of what's happening.

      • You can still use your phone for navigation, music, calls, etc

      • You won't use up your phone's internal storage, or wear out the memory cells prematurely.

      • You can hide a camera behind your rear view mirror, out of your field of view. A phone and non-fixed wiring adds clutter and is illegal if it is blocking your vision.

      • As mentioned above, in a bad crash your iphone can fly through your windscreen and be destroyed, along with all your footage. A camera will be destroyed as well but the small micro SD card has a much higher chance of survival.

    • RSV1000… They haven't failed to disappoint with the neg!!! ;)
      * Didn't know about any known issues with wear to memory on iPhone. But I'll take it on board!
      * Field of view seems pretty good from where I mount the phone in my car… But I imagine the 120º would be pretty impressive compared to the 60ºish from the iPhone!
      * So far I must've been lucky and not had a phone call while videoing!
      * I have considered getting one, But I'm not sure I really want video evidence of my driving out there!!!

edit: And thanks to the rest that didn't neg… After all, it was a question, not a statement!

  • why is it 720P and than "not fake 960" ?

    • +3

all cameras with 1280960 is software interpolated from 640480
      so it is fake HD

  • +1

Ive bought a few on ebay from $17 delivered to the $33 dual lens and the $59 dual lens.
You get what you pay for, the $17 is just ok, $33 is same, then the $59 is ok but no good at night n cant always get plates.
Also for all cams The infra red is a waste of time as it reflects on the glass. So i pulled them out or disabled them and used hidden waterproof infra red lights front n rear.
on ebay they where $7 each delivered.
But mine are on all the time,so i have a litte solar panel to keep battery topped up

  • any sample video at night?

  • just ordered one.

  • Forget the camera, I'm interested in the banner ad at the top of this page for "Bigger Breast Cream". What wizardry is this?

    • +4

Those ads are different for everyone. They're based on what google searches you perform most frequently, late at night, when alone.

      • But…but…dammit Mr Google knows everything.
        I REGRET NOTHING!!

  • Already posted equivalent prices above, sorry guys.

  • Can you provide a price for the new 1080p version of the same unit? and or the GPS equipped model that is also available?

  • Ambrella unit is WAY too big. Thats why I asked about the 1080p version of this camera. No suction cap taking up all of my window.

  • So I'm guessing that means "No I don't have the 1080p version of the listed camera. "?

    • HI,

yes, there is no 1080p version

  • Hi, Yes there is a 1080p version.
    No you don't sell it.

I'm sure that's what you meant.

    http://bit.ly/19Ie9ti

    • that's FAKE
Image sensor only 1.2Mage pixel which the entry level 720P model.

  • Received mine today. REP, the instructions are in engrish. How should I set this up to record as soon as the car is turned on?

    • HI,

PLease send your request to [email protected]
I will send you PDF file.
